Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

I think we should be smarter than that with our choices to minimise the risk. Any manager will need a new GK, and we should be looking to buy younger players who are not system specific.

Younger players that Conte will rush to tell the press are "club buys"?

The reality is the GK situation is probably a summer resolution, with Conte we need a RWB, without him we need a creative midfielder, with Conte we need a CB for the center of a 3, without him it's highly likely we are looking for a CB that can play on the left of a pair (alongside Romero), with Conte we need to build to a front 3, without him? with Conte players like Gil, Sarr, Spence, White probably need loans, without him you probably could integrate 2.

It's almost impossible to make decisions here without understanding if Conte will be here next season (not just to the end of this one)

Conte doesn’t exactly offer a lot for £15m a year, does he? He says he deserves it as he works long hours. So do the NHS! He is inflexible with tactics. Moans about how it’s everyone else’s fault but not his. He won’t play players seemingly almost out of spite. It’s hard to find a player whose performances have significantly improved whilst Conte has been at the club and yet there are at least a few that have regressed. Honestly he holds his cap out asking for more money. He can fudge off.

@thfcsteff to be next Spurs manager please.

I'm a bit down on Conte at the moment but we've paid him ~20m and he's gotten us CL football and into the last 16 - he's probably justified his salary right there and the right to a bit more time.

Very few other managers would have gotten us top 4 last season.

It's easier to be down on managers than the club but if we can get through Poch, Mourinho and Conte without winning anything there should be some kind of Razzie style award ceremony at the stadium, perhaps with one minute of sighing / shrugging to accompany it.

Edit - I do hope Conte stays on and also appreciate that winning trophies isn't the be all and end all nor something we're entitled to as fans etc etc

Not being a dingdong, but very few other managers get paid £15M/yr. And football is about your last game, not last year, rightly or wrongly.

I'm not against Conte, but it's at a point where decisions have to be made.
- If he's staying, sign a contract, get Kane to as well
- He has to show some ability to fix the conceding first every game, low tempo, predictability in our play
- He has to show some flexibility

And if that's the case, the club has to give him two players this window that can help immediately.

We should pay managers on a match by match basis?

We have scored one goal in the first halves of our last fourteen matches combined. If that’s worth £15m per year, sign me up as I couldn’t do any worse with this team. I’d set them off the leash and get them to play on the front foot. If we are attacking the opposition and they are dropping back then they can’t be attacking us. Attack as more exciting form of defence. If we can get Son back on form then our front three ought to be unstoppable.

A RWB that can also play as an attacking RB would fit both.

Quite a few attacking players that can work under Conte could also surely work in a different formation/system? Are we worried about Kulusevski not fitting a different system?

We've been linked to a lot of left sided centre backs, I think there are some that could also work in a back four.

I agree that a goalkeeper probably has to wait until the summer. But that's definitely a position where we could strengthen and future proof.

It makes Paratici's job harder. But hopefully doable. His signings so far seem to fit this combination rather well.

Younger players as in early to mid twenties can definitely fit both here and now under Conte and an overall "younger players most of the time" strategy. Again, harder job for Paratici, but I think it's doable.

Conte has said that the current players we have don't have the characteristics to play a back 4. But that he would be open to it in the future as he played 424 at juve.

You’re not being a dingdong. It’s a decent argument but for managers it can’t be that short term. Nathan Jones was getting a lot of hatred from Saints fans a few weeks ago. Proper hatred. He beats Palace, City and Everton on the bounce and things are happier.

I agree on all your points except the contract one. It means little except making out payout bigger if he’s sacked or making it a bit harder for him to walk out if he gets a better offer or spits the dummy.

In economic terms he’s justified his appointment. Even though the last few weeks have been brick, in sporting terms he’s justified his appointment and entitled himself to more time to fix the current problems. We’d be mad to get rid of him.

You're definitely not a dingdong. We agree on some things, disagree on others.

Yes, new contract at some point before the summer. We perhaps disagree on the time frame here.

He can't control what Kane does. He can try, but that can't be on him..

Yes, fix the conceding first issue. Somehow.

Keep being a stubborn bastard until he succeeds, gets sacked or walks.

Yes he needs solutions in the transfer market.

I agree with him.

Not sure, the back 3 doesn't work, which suggests we don't have the personnel there.

Right now

- back 3 -> Doherty - Romero - Dier - Lenglet - Perisic
To get that to work, we need an upgrade on Doherty, Dier and rotation for Perisic
- Back 4 -> Royal - Romero - Dier -Davies
To get that to work you only need to upgrade Dier and you could recall Reguilon as an option
And the bonus of the back 4 is you can sit a midfielder for extra protection (some to track runners ffs)

I struggle to see how he feels that way

I agree with this I just wish he himself would help himself in that, one he cheered up a little and especially don't get drawn into silly press spats and 2, to touch on your Nathan Jones point go back to last year where it would not matter losing to Arsenal and City as we would have beaten Brentford and Villa.

Yeah his comments this week and his demeanour don't help at all. I guess this is what you get with Conte though - when things aren't going well, he behaves a bit like a spoilt child. Fergie, Wenger, Mourinho, Klopp, Pep...they're all the same. And they're all winners.
