*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Sporting CP ***

Proper whiff of Europa League about that team other than Kane and Son isn't there? :(

In terms of the make-up of our back three, I think Sporting are more a counter-attacking team than one who press so we might be OK having that back three with a lack of ability on the ball.

Discard that assumption, imo. The minute teams see a lineup without Romero in it, they will press pur backline, because they know that it's utter child's play to get the ball of that panicked lot.

Seriously - tactically, it's almost a free hit. Press Sanchez, press Emerson, press Dier or Lloris, press Davies, and you are 100% guaranteed a high-opportunity turnover as they panic, slip and slide.

It's too tempting not to alter your tactics for if you're an opposition coach.

What surprises me is that that lot just accept being sh*te on the ball and this vulnerable to every opponent they face - as professionals, surely they would want to improve those facets of their game just to not get embarassed by other pros. But apparently not.

Play Lenglet in the middle if Romero is out, imo - at a minimum, to provide at least some ability on the ball.

Then the midfield and forwards need to give them an option, if we need to go long it needs to be done quickly, need to mix it up a bit.

I think we disagree somewhat on the quality Davies and Dier have on the ball.

Your suggestion I like though. I actually like it if Romero starts too. Dier has played almost everything and looked like he may benefit from a breather.

Doherty back in would help as well of course. Could understand Emerson against Saudi Sportswashing Machine with Doherty having started two games in quick succession and three of the last four before that game after returning to action. If Emerson starts again today I will be somewhat confused. Even though I think Royal has improved in some of his play on the ball.

Don't really know what to expect today, but trying not to expect too much. Thought we played allright against them away and deserved something from that game. I hope the boys aren't too much in a slump to pull out a performance.

Currently having a family break in Kent for half term with the wife and kids. Still making the trip back this evening (and did on Sunday too unfortunately!).

Train from Dover to St Pancras only takes about an hour makes it much easier than I had initially anticipated!

Anyone think we might blow it today and need to win next week?
Yes. I have no confidence in the team atm. Also, I've never been this indifferent to the Champions league. Even when we were not in it, I was more interested tha than now, because the performances have been so poor. You expect the team to go out and be on the front foot, but we've done the exact opposite in every game. I expect us to lose and not qualify for the knock outs.

Agreed. We never make it easy for ourselves, and tonight won’t be an exception.

Apologies to anyone going tonight …. I’m taking my mum
She has never been to a game
Is 73
Talks for England
And is desperate to see the ground
She won’t have a clue what’s going on and will talk to anyone and everyone
I’m also being my brother who is a jinx
My 5 year old who doesn’t want to go
And my Browne is spurs mad
Don't think any fan can jinx this club any further, hopefully your brother's 'jinxability' will counter attack us to a much needed win.

We have to take our chances and there will be plenty. I don't know if it has already been mentioned but they have 6 players missing. Wind them up bit and they will loose their composure. So apart from the Edwards wonder goal we will win this. Hope Hugo has released his demons.

You wrote this for me. You read my mind.

After this Bournemouth and Marseille away, Liverpool at home. It could be a while before we are back to winning ways
