January Transfer Thread - it couldn't open and close any quicker

Whilst I share the frustration that we haven’t made any deals, the time for judgement is after the window slams shut. Even then we need to consider the nature of the January window and make a relative comparison to teams we are competing with, a few with larger budgets and more tempting prospects / profile.

I always get caught up with regularly checking my phone for new info, in hope more than expectation. We discuss players like they have already signed and become as emotionally involved in the conjecture of a link either a poor player is liked or a good one doesn’t arrive.

The summer window is the big one really and whilst I’m not sure any of us can stop support or having an interest in the club, I can certainly see scope for Season Tickets not being renewed or visible protests at the owners if no ambition is sensed / Conte walks after that window.

Obviously agree...though equally the chances of a deal happening reduces as time reduces, and we all recognise that we're desperate for players and have seen Conte's comment

Personally I'm relieved that we have a DoF in place as it maximises our chances of doing some deals...but still frustrated that nothing has happened and its Jan 27th

Without any signings we'll move into the rest of the season crossing our fingers on injuries, form etc and hoping for a good finish, rather than with any genuine expectation of one. A couple signings would make one hell of a difference, even if just for morale

Problem is that I feel we lose Kane and Conte in the summer if we dont get anything out of this season.. with 2 good signings I think 4th place is ours.

So. We watch. We wait.

Still nothing.

Totally agree, the injection of a couple of new personalities is almost as important as an uptick in quality. Lo Celso, Dele and Ndombele are being left out of the squad, so that’s 3 senior players offering next to zero value and I can’t imagine their motivation in training is particularly high. Nor their confidence tbh.
I’m hoping to be surprised on Jan 31st, 0 incomings would be disappointing and I think leave us with a negative feeling both on the stands and in the dressing room, if it’s only 1 I’d hope it’s in an area we are desperate, which is interesting as opinions would vary what that would be but hopefully it is what be what Conte has given as his no.1 priority for the run in. 2 would show some real intent by our own standards and probably mean we’ve offloaded at least one player surplus to requirements and 3 genuine first teamers may have even the biggest Anti Levy / Enic critic start to believe the penny may have finally dropped. Of course the other debate may be the quality - is one 50m player what we need or would Conte / us prefer we get 2 25ms or a 25M and a loanee in with the head turning signing more appropriate / likely in the summer

Unless Man U, Goons or even Spammers make 2 signings?
I’m not sure we could have made any huge promises to Conte about what we could do in Jan, but I do think a significant ‘war chest’ must have been offered in the summer.
What I would hope is that by having a DoF we can do something creative though, as I’ve just posted 2 in would have a big impact but I think United could be thinking the same, with more money and attraction than we have (plus it seems some genuine takers for their surplus players) Goons I’d like to think are not as attractive with us having Conte and more recent CL, but it does seem they do have some cash and the willingness to pay a top wage for a striker. Spammers have their new investor and whilst their profile is lower they may feel this is the time to push the boat out in the exact opposite of how we’ve chosen to invest when we were at the strongest we’d been in recent times (when we actually made CL and potentially and a title shot!)
Edit: the Kane comment is another consideration though, would CL get him to sign a new deal as not sure Conte alone is an incentive for him to nkt agitate for a move from a stronger contract position in the summer (someone did suggest to me Lloris signed as he was enthused by our spending plans!)

Not building the new stadium would not have resulted in more money to spend in the market. Remember everything this club has spent in the market since Lewis’ arrival has been self generated. Lewis has a an extremely selfish and flawed approach (in terms of building a successful football team) of zero tolerance on helping the club in the market.

Even the stadium itself was built with limited investment from Lewis. On the whole the new stadium is all built on the back of bank loans. So those funds would not have been diverted to the team had we not build the new stadium.
It was the same before the war..thirties.it was said that the spurs directors were too tight to buy anyone. Consequently we won bugger all. I,m not saying it is exactly like that now..just saying.
