January Transfer Thread - it couldn't open and close any quicker

Different Amrabat. Nordin versus Sofyan.

They're both pretty sh*te as far as I know, but @Finney Is Back's mate might have better info.

Ah ok, that makes more sense. I hadn’t really followed either of their careers or indeed realised that there was more than one famous footballing Amrabat. My only knowledge about the one we have been linked with is that he’s a central midfielder, who is out of favour at Fiorentina and has been labelled on here as having various skill sets.

Not building the new stadium would not have resulted in more money to spend in the market. Remember everything this club has spent in the market since Lewis’ arrival has been self generated. Lewis has a an extremely selfish and flawed approach (in terms of building a successful football team) of zero tolerance on helping the club in the market.

Even the stadium itself was built with limited investment from Lewis. On the whole the new stadium is all built on the back of bank loans. So those funds would not have been diverted to the team had we not build the new stadium.
It was built with zero investment from Lewis (unless we count what was, in effect, a £40m interest free loan for a couple of years).

While, in the short term, we would indeed have had more money to spend on transfers had we not built the stadium (I estimate that on top of the high level of debt there was another £400m to £600m of club funds used for our capital projects) building the stadium was and is still a thing that made massive sense for THFC and our future finances and transfer/wage budgets. The stadium should generate £100m to £120m of additional revenue a year compared to WHL, which compared to its overall cost of about £1.2b is a very good rate of return (effectively an 8% to 10% return on capital).

I think the big shame really is that the owners of the club didn't inject some liquidity in those couple of years when things had to be kept very tight due to the stadium not being finished, the eventual cost not yet being fully known and THFC wanting to show the best financial results possible to secure the best interest terms for our debt. The valuation of ENIC's asset was going up significantly during this time. We've paid for that stagnation ever since and now need quite a large rebuild for which we have nowhere near the funds unfortunately.

He's very good. We should be all over that. People on here talk more about Brzovic a lot - this guy is 5-6 years younger and plays in a similar position, albeit slightly different style

edit: I think we have higher priority positions, but you can't have too many good players
I agree. I big up Brozovic because he is on a free transfer (and I don't think we have much in the way of transfer funds) and already completely trained in Conte's system. Given a choice of the two I would happily take Guimaraes instead of Brozovic. I think that central midfield is the biggest weakness in our side after right wing back and we need to bring in two starters with Hojbjerg, Winks and Skipp (for now) being back-up players.

Contemplating whether to buy lots of popcorn and beer and spend my weekend in this thread. Surely it will be an epic avalanche of incoming and outgoing transfers.

Now this - THIS!!! - is in the spirit of what first attracted me to Glory Glory and away from all the stodgy, pious, stuffed-suitery of precious places like COYS.

Enter The Pitbull, I salute you. And say I have long missed your witty contributions and high-quality compilations that once illuminated this forum.

May we all learn to follow in your footsteps with equal amounts of ability and sauciness.

Ndombele to Valencia on loan agreed between the clubs [BBC]

However he’s apparently waiting to consider his options as he’d prefer PSG…
