January Transfer Thread - it couldn't open and close any quicker

idk maybe too harsh on Dier and Regulion. You wouldn’t sell either right now. We have decent players but not a balanced side. That lack of creativity from defence through midfield is stark. I hope Conte tries Moura and Sessengon as wingbacks, with Royal dropping into the 3 at the back. That would give us more creativity especially out wide which is so crucial in this setup.

Normally the space and opportunities fall to the wingbacks in this system - just look at Chelsea - and had Royal and Reggie been more ruthless in attack we’d have taken far more wins. Early days and both are good players. But for me you need people who will score and assist in those roles.

Midfield - it’s the Ndombele conundrum. With him we have creativity but you can’t rely on him. So it leaves us lacking massively.

CB - even with Royal playing as a CB, we need one more. Ideally a lefty who can pass well. Maybe someone a bit older.
Same Ndombele that played tonight?

Sell 5 players:

Doherty
Sanchez
Rodon
Ndombele
Dele
(and be open to offers for WInks, GLC, Bergwijn, Davies)

Sign 5 players: a RB, 2 CBs, a midfielder, a CF....plus see how Sarr does
[edit: make that 6, with Sam Johnstone on a free]

Then assess after 6-12 months

I thought we really fell away once he came off. So yes. He wasn’t great but at least we pose questions from midfield and can control the ball a little in the middle. Otherwise we play too many hopeful passes, we’re not able to shimmy and open space and it’s predictable and one dimensional.

Ndombele was key to our goal too, getting the ball the Moura.

The guy has all the talent and none lf the brains I’m afraid
He should be rampant against these teams
I saw him do it in the CL yet he is looking average at this level IMO
We have to cut our losses on him

I don’t think that is the issue. It’s his determination and fitness. He won’t bust a gut and keep going to help the team. His lack of fitness or psyche kicks in and he feigns injury and wants to come off. You can’t have a player like that you build a team around. So I agree he’s not a solution more of a conundrum or banana skin. Because we desperately need his skills set. Just in a fit body with desire and application.

but he's shown he doesnt have that desire....

I agree. He’s a banana skin because each manager needs a player like him. We are crying out for someone like him in the middle. Yet you can’t rely on him.

We need to be able to turn players pressing in the middle and make adventurous passes from midfield. Ndombele does do that every game (even when he’s not having a good game). None of our other midfielders have that Modric-like ability to skip around challenges and find a pass. Another thing Ndombele does almost every game is comes off around 65-70 mins.

That is the issue.

Realistically how many can we get out in Jan, and how many can we get in to start sort the problem out.

I be happy if it only 2/3 out and 2/3 in. Then a proper sort out in the summer.

As I posted above, priority is shippnig out Doherty, Sanchez, Rodon, Ndombele and Dele

Davies has a use as a back-up LCB in Conte's system and we need to see whether he can get something out of WInks, GLC and Bergwijn. Bergwijn could easily become a RWB when Doherty leave

Even getting 2-3 of th 5 above gone in Jan as you say and bringing in 2-3 replacements who are actually capable will make a huge difference

Selling the one player who can pass forwards until another has been brought in is madness. Even at whatever percentage he plays at, Ndombele is still our most creative player.

You could replace Alli, Winks and Lo Celso with one player, get them up and running and then replace Ndombele with a second creative player later on.

But if we bring in someone who can pass forward better... Trade up?

It’s a pity there isn’t a Fantasy Football Wildcard in real life, we could certainly use one right now.

I think replacing Ndombele with another midfield who can pass is one of the most urgent takes and the sell/signing would be done in the same window (or at least that would be the goal). Getting that player in is so urgent that it needs to take priority....and there's little value in Ndombele being here and not playing

That still only leaves one player who can pass. Anything happens and there is no one to fall back on.

Alli and Lo Celso are offering even less than Ndombele is.

Then all 3 need to go. Personally I'd be willing to give GLC a little more time as he does seem to put the effort in, but Ndombele and Dele need shipping out asap and I could understand it if GLC was too

On the "leaves one player who can pass" - we'll be signing players too

Think we will buy the Croatia from inter.
