Fabio Paratici - Consultant

They were poor, but the ball was so slow getting to them it allowed WH get back into shape with 9 players behind the ball.
The few times we did attack with pace we cut them open only for the final pass to let us down.
Yep
It’s the issue
The ball went to key players from the defence and they just pondered and showed no fight or aggression and certainly no pace

Why is it?
Because the last few we keep doing the same thing. "We're only X points off 4th at this point" but we don't look like a cohesive unit. We don't look like we're have have fewer points than we deserve. If anything we could have even fewer. Do you have any belief that we are going to better the points total of 16 teams in the PL this season?

That gap I points is only going to extend, it's not going to get smaller.
Let’s see. We have scope to improve as Nuno learns more about the players and the players more about what the coach wants. Also our fixtures have been one of the toughest opening 9. We usually lose to Arsenal away and West Ham we don’t have a great record away, and tend to do better against both teams at home. The point is we are around the teams we would expect to be around, so in my book we aren’t doing too badly. We was never going to be punching above our weight this season…..

so you think we should be 4th, with this squad?
I think we will get better. We have seen small improvements most weeks when we have had players available
We improved after Poch first 10 games too
Teams tend to get better the more time they have with the coach
The teams at the top so far are quite settled, stable set ups and managers

No not at all. I think this squad is about 6h place in quality and looks to be struggling to work effectively. I don't see the gap to 4th getting smaller.

Yup, shockingly bad. I said elsewhere that I didn't understand Nuno taking Sergio off and putting Gil on. It should've been Gil for Moura with orders to stay wide and stretch the game

Unless it was a petulant reaction to Reggie’s mistake which lead to the goal. In which case it was a silly and self-defeating move.

Those stats are indeed terrible but we were so slow getting the ball forward that we were consistently faced with a packed defence. Moura could've done what the rest of them were doing and passed it sideways and backwards but that was having no impact either so he tended to try to dribble through the centre to make something happen.... Clearly he didn't do so but he wasn't the root cause of our problems on yesterday IMO.

6th to 8th is our level this season looking at our options (lack of options in some places). Just as long as that is for a single transitionary season I don't mind too much (though I'm not sure Nuno is the right manager to take us forward). I do think the chairman should acknowledge that the fans are seriously overpaying for the product however and look to reduce ticket costs if we're not going to try to battle with the big boys.

Who was?
Those are shocking stats
Kane’s are awful too
If the ball goes foward their remit is to at least recycle the ball
It wasn’t like the attackers were trying clever high risk football

Agreed with this. Your comment beginning 'just as long as...' is my fear - we have a decent reputation after some good years however 2-3 poor years is bound to impact our ability to attract players.

My biggest fear is that we're not able to attract to right quality player next summer. Getting a creative attacker, another CF and strengthening our midfield options are priorities if we want to progress. I just worry about whether players who we want look to other options

It’s not hurt arsenals ability as your willing to able to pay the fees

True but no matter how much we dislike it Arsenal are still just about a big name in European football. The Wenger era hasn't been completely forgotten and many current players grew up with them in their pomp. It will take a little longer in the wilderness for them to truly lose that allure. We never quite got to that same level so the willingness to pay the fees necessary to attract higher quality players is a bit more pressing in our respect.

We are as big a name as them in Europe
We have been in the CL final whilst the modern generation of players was growing* up
The key is they have paid some big fees even in dross like Pepe
I expect us to be willing to pay bigger fees once w have the stadium income
