Ryan Sessegnon

You must have sore shoulders after moving the goalposts like that. Your post literally said that Sessegnon has never shown top speed.

That has top speeds listed which is not particularly relevant. Speed of acceleration is a far more useful stat. Walker has insane acceleration so gets to his top speed very quickly, never seen anything like that from Sess. Maybe he has it but I've never seen it.
I agree, and Walker has a combination of top speed, acceleration and strength that is rare to see. That makes him special.

That being said, Sessegnon is now around the same age Walker was when he returned from various loans to get back in the side. Took quite a lot of work and time to get from there to the absolute top player he became.

Time is very much on Sessegnon's side. Full back and attacking full back/wing back roles demands a lot of different abilities, it takes time for most of them.

Walker has unbelievable recovery pace and has never in the years I've watched lost a foot race to anyone. Its the authority he does it with that makes the difference. The opponent quickly gives up.
Just as an aside. There was a game, I think it was against Wigan. They had a really rapid left winger that was also rather strong. Can't remember his name at all.

I think Walker might have been carrying an injury or something, either that or that winger should have been at the Olympics at some point.

He had Walker on toast one on one in a foot race. Walker had no idea how to handle him.

Sessegnon isn't that, but he's a more well rounded footballer that imo has the potential to be a truly elite left back.

Read my post again, no where did I say anything about top speed. Walker is fast because of his acceleration, top speed is irrelevant it's why you often see players who you wouldn't consider fast in those type of lists.

no where did I say anything about top speed.
But... you did. You said "Walker is...one of the fastest players in the PL. Sessengnon hasn't shown anything even close to that speed wise."
Are you trying to gaslight me?

Again where did I say anything about a top speed? I said fastest, fast can relate to top speed achieved as the article talks about, it can also relate to acceleration. You assumed I was talking about top speed.

Never seen Sessengnon speed playing for us, I know not great opponents but compare him with Bryan on Thursday, one looked confident, alert and positive the other edgy. Sessengnon has far more experience than Bryan but you wouldnt have thought it. I'm not saying hes not a good footballer but hes lacking self belief and that's not something coaching or training can help with, perhaps he doeznt feel loved or comfortable at Spurs, it happens.

Just let him be in te first team for one season and see what happens. If nothing I am sure we would have increased his selling price by virtue of being a first team player and hid low wages makes him easier to sell too.

Forgetting his reputation before he arrived Sessegnon reminded me a little of KWP when he first played left back for us. Definitely technically competent, doesn’t seem to make as many glaring errors as their more experienced counterparts but not physically imposing, which for a full back means they need to have something extra to stand out, usually either supreme technical crossing ability a la Trippier, pace or in the case of peak Danny Rose aggression and tenacity.
When he’s played higher up this season there’s been quite a few times he’s looked like he’s going to deliver something but there’s been a lot of nearly’s where he hasn’t quite got the ball out from his feet, evaded the challenge or landed the final ball.

The combination of arriving with a hamstring injury and looking a little overawed by the step up means he has never really showed anything like what I was expecting but Nuno does seem to be interested in coaching the players so it will be interesting to see if he thinks the issue is game time and a settled position or some specific coaching to get the best out of him.

Walker is an interesting comparison. As he wasn't so highly regarded when with us, and Sessengon's raw attributes are not that dissimilar. Arguably Sessegnon is more skilful, certainly if you judge them at a comparative age. I think Sessegnon just needs games and patience. As Walker did. I would play Sess at LB, and he would maraud forward. He loves 1-2s and I think that is the answer to unlocking his attacking potential. He needs to play off people and be able to sprint down the line. Unlike Walker, he is capable of cutting in and finishing from the edge of the box.

Walker is quick, very strong and actually quite decent defensively.

The problem for Sess now is you way play him a LB? when? in front of who? Reguilon is first choice and Davies is the more defensive, consistent choice.

I see him getting cup games till winter window, then probably off on loan again.

At Sessengon's age?

Would suggest Sessengon is probably the better player at the same age. Just needs games. If Reguilon get injured, can see him coming in say. Or rotating when we get a lot of fixtures.

Sess was excellent in his last season at Fulham.
Let him play on loan for his sake.
He’s done here.

Described as a ‘knock’ so hopefully it’s more precautionary that he’s coming back rather than anything too serious. Unlucky for him all the same.
