When you are trying to achieve a family feel, a greater than the sum of its parts collective, dinosaur psychology doesn't work. It just instills fear, worry and a fixed mindset. Some players are ok with it BUT it doesn't take many for it to be toxic, and even the ones not being picked on can not like it.

Nuno is a good man. He'll have his demands, but he's fair and treats everyone equal and as he finds them. Most people will identify with that and respond in kind. He won't chastise you, belittle you or put fear into your play. That's debilitating. You can't underestimate being released from that.

If he gets a tune out of Sanchez Dier Dele Bergwijn, even Doherty then chapeau to the man.

It was a good post from @Raziel, but let's build further on what you've said here about spirit and energy.

Pochettino was mocked by some for his 'auras' comments. Probably those same people think men shouldn't cry, but regardless, he was mocked when it was an INTRINSICALLY important part of what brought his unit together and allowed them to buy in (and sadly burn out because nobody listened BUUUUUUUUT I am drifting...)

What that massive clam who was here before Nuno did was a crime against this club. Not only did he under-train the squad, he specifically funneled our play through the resources he felt could get him the quickest return, at the same time disrespecting and disregarding the squad. It was appalling, and in his divide and conquer for short term quest, he nearly ruined a few careers.

I have bold-faced the final paragraph of your quote because you are so absolutely bang-on.
Nuno's execution of this simple yet incredibly effective tenant of humanity is wonderful; that he has managed to turn the squad onside in the short time is frankly beyond any expectation I had, and as such he will ALWAYS have a place with me.

Not sure that's fair. There was a big clear out when poch came in of those who disliked his methods. Same has just happened with nuno. Mourinho didn't really get that for whatever reason. Rumours are that certain players like kane actually backed jose and thought other players weren't pulling their weight.

How much is true i don't know.

It is one of the main reasons I knew we had to keep him. That Dele was not the Dele that arrived at the club. It was a Dele who lost his way a bit, and rather than getting some decent man-management, got the dinosaur 'tough-love' bool-sheiit from the previous wanquer. I personally think the 2018 World Cup was unhelpful for him in so much as he played a different role for the team yet was judged performance-wise against the position he commonly played for us to that point. I think the criticism stung him a bit, add to that some injury issues, Poch getting canned and doubtless a drift of focus in all that plus the aforementioned wanquer, and...all I can say is I am delighted he is back.

I think it is extremely fair, based on my own observations and things learnt/heard along the way. Remember, the reason the wanquer didn't get that was because he sucked up to Levy to get the job in the first place by telling him he could do way better with that current squad! Anyway, fudge him, this is a NUNO thread, and IN NUNO WE TRUST!!! ;)

@thfcsteff - please understand that your absolute love of Poch and your absolute hatred of Mou do not paint you in a good light of a normalised, thoughtful person able to objectively assess what was and is going on.

For instance, today Alistair Gold described how Spurs was absolutely broken towards the end of the Poch regime, serious divisions around the ground / staff / training complex / team.

He felt Mou was the wrong man (and so was Conte) to heal these rifts.

But they arose and we need to recognise those rifts during the end of Poch, and that Nuno is trying to heal them.

Poch was trying to be the manger, not the coach. He wanted to separate himself from the players to become their boss
The issue he had was he too close with most of the squad and creating that divide for him was nigh in impossible… he was too nice and too liked
He wanted video cameras in for training so he could watch from afar. Levy said no as it was alien to him from what he had seen previously from Poch, I know a company quoted £115k for a systems and Poch wanted to pay. Levy vetoed it
Then of course we have also had the burn out for so many players at the same time. It was a learning curve for the players and Poch but it escalated due to timing of it all
 
Regardless of who came in, after being found out by Jose - Dele had no choice but to be obedient with the next coach.
We will need time to see if Dele is happy in this role. As a Winks upgrade, over time his value will continue to fall, so will his prospects for England. If Dele can't find a way to impose himself creatively in the game and get credit for it, I believe that his enthusiasm for football will wane and he might agitate for a move.

That said, Nuno did and is doing right - putting team needs over player individual preferences. Up to Dele now to work with Nuno. Not fussed if Nuno thinks we should sell him to get funds to upgrade either.

What system is that and which other clubs are using it? Weird to think that Poch wanted to be an office man.

I can ask the guys who quoted. It was a catch system so he could check out the training and review it back. They met Poch a few times to scope it. It was a company I’ve worked with for years, hence knowing a bit about it

Yea same, Poch is my favorite manager but it was clearly broken at the end and you really got the feeling that he didn’t want to be here in that last 12 / 9 months.
 
It was interesting listening to Gold. Was hoping he’d lift the lid a little more but then again I suppose in his job he has to be careful or his sources will dry up. Worth a listen all the same.
 
I think he is strong willed, focused guy whos pretty no nonsense.

hopefully exactly what we need.

very early days, yet I feel he sailed into a storm and captained our ship superbly.

big challenges ahead upon the end of the international break.

Very much like the fact he hasn’t moaned about anything really. Nuno has also been honest and straight up with the media.
