Giovani Lo Celso

So have they not been vaccinated? They can’t have tests regularly leading upto the matches? I really don’t get these stupid fudging rules.

So whats the point of it and tests?

The problem with the red list countries is not so much how prevalent the virus is. It's what variant is there. The south american and south african variants are better at getting past immunity caused by vaccines. The countries also do little genomic sequencing so we don't know if the virus has mutated further. Bringing a strain into the country that can make vaccines useless is what we are trying to avoid.

18 months later and people still don't get.
I thought we were all experts now.

If you are vaccinated you can still be a carrier of covid.

The UK red list exists to keep new variants out of the UK.
That is why Delta variant dominate countries are not on the red list regardless how many cases they have.

This is why come the October and November International break, we will have the exact same problem with the same players.

But there seems to be a compromise so that they weill only miss one league game.

"football.london understands that not all of the club's players involved are keen to go to play for their countries due to the difficult return situation but there is pressure from some of the football federations involved for those called up to be available.

Some players called up from the Premier League clubs have families and the prospect of isolation for 10 full days in a hotel room is not ideal.

It is understood that Spurs - as other Premier League clubs have done - believe they have currently agreed with their players to not play the final match of their three international games.

For Lo Celso and Romero, that would mean returning after the match in Brazil on Sunday September 5 and for Sanchez following Colombia's game in Paraguay on the same day.

Should the players return the following day that would rule them out of the Premier League match at Crystal Palace on Saturday September 11 and the Europa Conference League group stage game in Rennes the following Thursday.

They feasibly would then be available for the derby against Chelsea on Sunday, September 19 but what fitness they would have after 10 days without much of the standard of exercise they have been used to is unclear."

The fitness thing is key
The club should be able to argue they can isolate safely at the training ground in the on-site hotel facilities

I'm very glad as diplomatic as Nuno can be

- He had a bit of a go at the government, FA & FIFA in his post match interview

fudging 18 months into this and these asshats still haven't figured out how to handle this?

The bare fudging minimum should be the players are allowed to isolate in a facility where they can at least train, how fudging hard is that?

It's really hard. You have to keep the rules consistant for everyone.
Ultimately after 18 months of observing people quarantining you can't trust any of them to obey the rules.

And last year the government let the Premier League continue behind closed doors with a strict testing regime and bubble.
Players from our club where caught breaking that bubble on multiple occasions.

The richer a person quarantining is the more likely they are to think the rules don't apply to them.

However if Spurs are sensible they will copy what the Lions did and make the players return via the Island of Jersey.

Do their ten days in Jersey with their crazy rules:

https://www.gov.je/Health/Coronavirus/Travel/Pages/CoronavirusTravelAdvice.aspx

"To help support your wellbeing, you may leave isolation for no more than 2 hours each day, solely for the purpose of outdoor exercise and fresh air. This can be in an outdoor public space such as a beach, a park, outdoor lanes. If your home has a communal garden which is shared with other households, you can use this - providing you are able to maintain as much distance as possible, and at least 2 metres, from others at all times.

To protect others, you must stay outdoors and you must not go anywhere that is crowded, including shopping areas or any other places where people congregate. Avoid busy times of the day and do not meet up with anyone from outside your household."

Cavani prioritized Utd over country. I'm more annoyed at Lo Celso than Romero for this situation. He should be the one setting an example. I get the wish to play for your country, especially in games as big as Brazil WC qualifier though. I also said on the pod that I wonder if there's something lined up (trophy parade or squad dinner) for the Argentinian players, celebration wise for last month's Copa win, they really didn't seem to have time previously to enjoy what is a massive deal for them as a country.

Palace away I think we can cope but Chelsea at home is a massive game for us. Not having our best players to choose from is disappointing.

So, what your saying is - bring the new variants in = no more quarantine, no selection issues and we can all go on holiday. Sweet!!

More competition for places for Lo Celso than for Romero. I think Romero is more or less nailed on to start for Argentina if he plays well for us, CB options for Argentina are very limited. Creative midfielders though, two competition.

Can understand the players making the decision they did. Qualifiers, playing Brazil for Argentina, WC squad and first team to get in to.

Not a good situation to be in for us, but I don't think the players are to blame at all.

Yes you can't blame the players for wanting to play for their country.

The premier league and fifa should have realised this would be a problem when arranging the fixtures. Or had talks with the government before the season had started.
Do they really need 10 days quarantine? Does that have to be in a government approved hotel? Could quarantine at the lodge (allowing them to train in isolation) with regular pcr tests after arriving back.
