Creativity

Deja vu, four years later.

We still are unable to find a way through a packed defence parking the bus....

It did all feel a little last season, although this time we did see the match out (that's a huge difference). Alli was making dangerous runs again, that's encouraging as well. I believe we still need two DMs in Skipp and Hojbjerg, safety first. But there is not enough threat from the wings. Reguilon, for all his obvious attacking potential, did not bring enough today in attack.

For all Dele’s hard work and movement he does not offer enough with the ball at his feet. Unless it’s a quick instinctive flick or first time pass it’s very safety first.

We need a passer at the top of the midfield.

We either buy one or try Gil , Tanguy or GLC there.

I’m sure Lo Celso and/or Gil will work their way into the central three soon, and we’ll see an increase in creativity. For now Nuno’s rationale is probably just to keep a winning team (with the special exception of Kane).

If we had finished the chances we had in the opening 3 games we would be sitting here top of the table with 6 or 7 goals scored.

I agree that PEH and Skipp feels like overkill against weaker teams at home, however at the start of this season GLC wasnt match fit and we dont need to say much about Tubby. I can see why Nuno kept the midfield the same today though, particularly without his new star CB integrated.

Longer term though I think it'll end up needing to be Skipp or PEH in these sort of games, though if we're progressing well in Europe then that hopefully shouldnt be a problem as there would be plenty of games

We can talk about Skipp and Hojberg being overkill but they may be the difference between us look more solid than what we were last season. Hindsights a wonderful thing.

I think Skipp and Hojberg are fine.

The other midfielder in that formation or if we use the pivot needs to able to create. Alli for all his abilities isn't a creative #10.

I definitely agree that they're making us look more solid. Its just a question of balance and whether we would need both against weaker teams at home, particularly if we had Romero and possibly another better CB in there

I disagree 100%, playing two naturally defensive midfielders in a 3 against a team like Watford is not necessarily

We created great chances today. Slightly more clinical we'd have been well ahead.

Creativity wasn't a problem today.

Playing Kane was a mistake imho, nothing to do with harry, but the front three were just getting used to the system.
It wouldn't have hurt to have harry sit this one out and work on the new system over the break.
Its still not fluid, but it will come.

It wasn't but I think we went for safety first, the opportunity was there to go into the international break top of table, three out of three. I think it was very pragmatic.

We took a risk that Kane, Son, Bergwijn & Lucas would be enough, it turned out that way.

When the team is sorted and accustomed to Nuno's system, I'm hoping we don't do it against the lesser teams.

But lets be clear, how many times in the last decade have we had a chance to go top of table pre a break and inevitably fudged it up?

I think in time that will change.

Still very early doors. But short on good alternatives. Lo Celso isn't yet at his best, Gil is 20 and more or less just arrived, Ndombele or replacement not sorted out yet.

The midfield roles require a lot of hard work and discipline in this system. Might just take some time for more creative players to be ready for that.

We are still lacking a creative player in CM, i have no problem with Skipp and Hojberg playing as a pair but Alli is not the creative player we need in there. I hope Lo Celso gets up and running before too long or we bring in someone for the third player.

Nuno said after the game the team is evolving and not playing the way he wants them too yet
That means more is to come in his view
That means this is NOT what he wants yet
It’s highly possible he can’t play how he wants as he hasn’t got the players he wants yet and needs time. 2 basics for every manager
What I’ve seen of the highlights from Today, same as last week was we created the best chances. The quality chances and won
I watched the United game as I’m on holiday and that’s on TV. They were outplayed completely by wolves but unlike last week wolves created all the good chances. They really gave United a hammering. United are being talked about as contenders… having limped over the lime today, drew vs the might6 Southampton and won on the first day convincingly vs the team that can’t defend, Leeds. Football is odd
