Dele Alli

If only it were that simple, but Dele had been in steady decline for the 18 months prior to that awful man's arrival.

We can but hope I guess. He is showing signs of life in pre season.
Didn’t he have a round of bad injuries just before that horrible man came?

Not a knee-jerk after the Chelsea 'performance', but more a reaction that Nuno does seem wedded to 4-3-3

If thats the case, then we'd be better of selling Dele as he just doesnt fit into the formation

He looks he doesn't know where he's supposed to be when playing that system. It's either play him close to the striker or don't play him at all.
We've had a couple of years of playing him in the wrong position and it's benefiting nobody. If he's not going to be used properly then sell him
and give him a chance of getting his career back on track.

Nuno - "lots to work on."

The biggest positive is that game was more useful to us than the chavs. We will be motivated to improve and know a lot of our weaknesses that need addressing.

Edit: opps wrong thread, meant to post that in the OMT.

Maybe Dele can come good, but hard to see where he plays. A loan might be a decent idea. The only positives I can offer - Dele does link up quite well with Son and Moura. He also showed some signs of feeding Bergwjin, but they didn't quite connect today. The signs were there, however.

Maybe the issue is Dele has too much freedom under Nunos system, and he actually needs a little more structure to bed in. If he is asked to play CM, he has to be given a little time to adjust and develop in that role. There were some signs that he is able to be a provider...

Basically, we’re going to use and need dele this season.

I hope we can get a tune out of him because their is still a player we can benefit from.

A few things doubters should factor in - the Chavs are probably the best pressing team around right now. Highly effective.

- Dele is learning a new position. And the team are learning new routines. You could see some of the movements and routines. Automatic runs with Dele trying to hit them first time. He was rushing it a little, and players runs for him were not quite on it either. But there were some promising signs.

-Dele's hook-up play with Moura and Son is good. They seem to be on the same wave length. And with more practice and better players around him (as well as reduced expectations for him) he could well make a decent CM. I don't think anyone will be buying him on the wages he's on, so he needs to reinvent himself.

- Can not question Dele's commitment. He is up for it. And that is what made him. His commitment and determination.

Those things might all be true .. but

- He lost the ball a lot tonight
- He still tries stupid brick in the wrong time & place
- He got the ball around the edge of the box a few times and just didn't look dangerous at all (usually the place he shines)

I'm hoping he proves me wrong, but I just don't see it anymore.

Can't but feel football has left Dele's specialist position behind now.

4231 has fallen out of fashion in the last few years.
Can he reinvent himself as a left sided attacker?

He definitely can't play in central midfield.

Wasn’t that the position he made his name at MK Don’s? Was the position he played when they ripped United apart.

That is what surprises me. He has regressed badly in that position. I can only see this guy being good if we play more than two forwards and he plays the support role. He is not good on the wing (unless narrow), he is no longer good in CM.

Yep. He hasn’t been the Alli of old consistently for 3-4 years now. Eventually there comes a point where we have to cut our losses. I think he’s a niche player personally. Great finisher and can play a killer pass, but also very slow, can’t play deeper and hasn’t improved his decision making. I think we’d all love him to regain his form as it would save us £50m at least. Hopefully Nuno can get the best out of him.
