The Centre Back thread

Either that or Levy is happy with Rodon, Davies, Sanchez and Dier !!!
I hope not

Nah. We're defo looking at CBs. Here's another who looks promising

https://sportklub.hr/nogomet/premie...r-u-tottenham-evo-koliko-ce-marseille-dobiti/

If you were given the option of Romero or Caleta and Milevavich (how ever its spelt) with money left over, what would you do? Quality over quantity, or lower risk with two other highly rated CBs?

All 3 have bags of promise and are a similar age.

Spend big on proper quality who will make us a better team straight away !!

As with Sanchez? Or Ndomebel.

There is a case for both approaches, next season these Croatian CBs might be the flavour of the month. Ultimately Spurs management need to appraise the options and choose the best for us.

Buy Romero
One player can transform a defence

And two can not?

Normally I'd opt for quality over bodies, but we've been burnt by expensive young CBs before. I couldn't say if Romero is worth it as I haven't seen him play. You can see the logic in bringing in one highly regarded CB for 25m and another for 10-15m, both not far off Romero's ability. Players who could command similar respect after a good season? I simply haven't watched any of them in anger.

CBs are harder to gauge from Youtube vids. You need to see them perform in games. Not sure how people rate these options, not to forget the Japanese player.

I’ve seen Romero ..he is elite level. He looks to me like a player who will bring players with him like Tanganga no Rodon. He is also aggressive which is something we have lacked in defence for years it feels like
The Croat…l have never seen him play TBH
Milehavic could be potentially great. He is still IMO a prospect and unproven despite playing a lot of games as he hasn’t been tested at a higher level. I like him and think he would be a good signing
We have seen it at city and pool how one CB of the right calibre can change the defence massively hence why I said buy Romero

What did Juve have in their loan agreement as a price for him?

I can't really comment without seeing him play. But at 23 with one impressive season under his belt, we're paying top money for him. You could buy a forward and 2 CBs for the money. Normally I'm all for quality over quantity, but with a young CB, you have to imagine they will still need some bedding in, learning and development.

You keep saying for a young defender, but it’s about what level he is at - he is 23, a full international for Argentina and from what I’ve seen of him a top level performer at his club. Ruben Dias was less than a year older and won Premier League player of the year. I’ve no doubt this guy will have the same impact as VVD and Dias, he is at that standard from the albeit few games I’ve seen and what I’ve read.
I also don’t agree that you could buy two CBs and a forward for around the 50m mark, at least not at the required standard we need….

£13m I believe
His one impressive season as you describe it was better than VVD one good season at Southampton for comparison. His team made CL. He won an international tournament and was voted the best in his position in the league

Not unless we got exceptionally lucky.

He was signed by Juventus from Genoa in 2019 and been loaned out to Genoa and Atalanta since. I'm guessing Paratici will have been watching him since he first arrived in Europe in 2018, if not earlier.

Oh dear . Seen one saying our 2nd Choice is Zouma. If that the case very worrying . Surely got to be better than Zouma out there’s he’s a bang average player.

As it stands with a couple of weeks to first game we are not really in a better position squad wise . Weaker for losing Bale and Toby. Couple of prospects signed but improving first eleven ? Who knows but it’s a bit meh as it stands.

Yes, I'd hope that there is someone between Romero and Zouma! Perhaps this is just positioning or just trying to force our hand. Fingers crossed we can get the Romero deal done; when you consider what Diaz cost City last year, I dont think the rumoured fee is too high

In terms of your comment about the squad, we were never really going to have everything finished before the season starts - I'd like to think that we have a new CB in though, and hopefully the RB signed up

Yes let’s hope so. Agreed never thought we’d be totally sorted but our needs for a CB have been staring us in the face for ages. Just if it’s Romero to Zouma than that’s poor from a perspective of target identification. Hopefully paper talk

We won't deal with Chelsea ... i wouldn't be too worried about this rumour.
