Next Manager?

Trolling us, even the press are now admitting you can't believe what they tell you.

Are covering. Protecting 'sources' who fed them. Honestly, there are so many scenarios. The truth doubtless lies in the middle i.e. talks had been going on, we had wanted him and Paratici together, someone circulated rumors for a reason, cue problems.

If you're interested, we discuss all this in a new pod which just dropped, and I have a theory as to why this has been happening. One thing no-one can argue with it that before the DoF, things were quiet, and since the kerfuffles, it's gone quiet again. As I said, I have a theory and am interested to know if you agree.

One overriding thing is that Paratici is our DoF, we all wanted one so now we need to hope he is steering the ship (albeit with a break in period) otherwise it will fail. We cannot afford that. If he is not going to be left alone, part ways now.

Nah - Martinez will get as good offers as us in a years' time. If he wins the Euros or World Cup then, as well as the professional satisfaction and pretty much an opportunity which wont come again, he'd have bigger opportunities than us

I think he probably has to win the Euros or the WC for his reputation to be significantly enhanced further via Belgium. And I'm not sure the balance of probabilities makes it worth it. I think he's young enough that he wants to be a club guy, and has the energy to get back in. Would quite like him tbh.

I think this is pretty interesting to consider. Why were there so many leaks? Why has it suddenly gone quiet? Are you saying this may be part of the Paratici playbook and he's been told he needs to reign it in a bit? Will have a listen later.

I really think this whole idea of the 'journos make it up' is just childish and naive. To my knowledge, I don't recall anyone saying these journalists are in the room when the negotiations happen, just they will be used by the club to shape narratives when it suits them, because the club knows they have an audience of Spurs fans. They will also confirm / deny things their way. So as I certainly have always said, it is not that the journos will say something and it always comes true, but that what they say will likely have come from somewhere, and for a reason.

This idea that we may not have spoken to ANY of the managers that we were actually linked with which was touted a few pages back I think is fanciful nonsense. I am totally open to the idea we may see a new name come out of the woodwork, but not that we haven't spoken to anyone linked.

I really think the truth is probably the simplest explanation. Money problems = not a desirable job = us trying to get the best person possible who will accept it. I don't think there's a strategic masterplan beyond that, I think the appearance of chaos is probably because we genuinely have needed to cast our net wide, and if we have financial difficulty...that is kind of ok. I would dearly love us to unveil the super proven, super qualified manager that evaded all of the links, just not sure it's going to happen at this point with this amount of time passed.

Ferdinand, Lineker and Klinsmann were all over his coaching ability tonight during their analysis. They also said he’s very highly regarded just about everywhere bar England.

The key word is “leaks”
I’d argue it’s more “stories”
A club of our scale with NO manager is big news
I mean the have been no transfers really (despite Leicester for example having deals done) other than Buendia
So to fill inches and sell tat there has to be a story
And they all follow someones lead to
That’s not saying there isn’t truth in any of the reports, just that they grow legs quickly
I’ve highlighted it before … look at the cult of Fabrizio Ramano, the transfer expert. The guys not broke one deal early or on his own yet because he is quite aggressive in his social media he is deemed to be an expert. The guy cannot have a clue of what is really going on at 90% of the clubs he reports on as he would be the Most connected big mouth in the game but people believe him.
You can choose to believe what you want. That’s your right
I do agree we’re not showing signs of a plan. I can’t tell you what the plan is from from I can see at least
But I don’t believe the club is leaking all these stories that are really not beneficial to the club on many levels
I do remember a reporter on talk sort (a daily mirror guy) when asked about Kane leaving. He said something along the lines of “we report what everyone else does and if we’re wrong they can choose to sue us, and everyone else”. I leave it there

Journalists don't work for the club, they don't answer to levy. They answer to their editor. If their editor tells them to fill column inches they will. Depending on the journalist or the editor most of it might be accurate or hardly any.

I think the appearance of chaos is bad communication from spurs and the fact they brought in paratici who has his own ideas of who he wants as coach.

If levy at the end of the season said, we will be talking to different coaches to ensure we get the right person for the job. It might take a week it might take a month, don't take notice of the media, we will announce when we are ready. It would have nipped a lot of this in the bud. Also our fans love to panic and think the world is ending.

So was Richards and the girl whose name I can’t remember but is in everything on the BBc2 coverage

I think that sadly, there is only a certain degree of truth to that. Modern 'media' is all about having people in your pocket.I actually feel that the words 'journalist' and 'journalism' are, sadly, increasingly redundant.

Agreed. I'm a fan too because I see what people in the game say about him. I actually think he's enhanced his reputation quite well by taking the Belgium job, I'd just be surprised if he'd turn down a top 6 PL job in order to try for a World Cup. I don't think his reputation goes meaningfully further with it, from a probabilities perspective? Is a - say - 15% chance he wins the WC worth turning down the Spurs job for? Is he in contention for the Barca job if he wins it? Maybe? But given they hired Koeman maybe he'd already be in contention?

tbh...maybe you're right. I just think we could get him if we really went for it. Told him he was the one.

Everyone keeps talking about Romano....#1 he works for the Guardian, he probably has some contacts in the game on a general basis although I don't consider him to be an authority on Spurs. I also don't consider anyone from the Mirror to be an authority on Spurs.

I keep saying it. Gold, KP, JPB / Ornstein. If they say something, we can assume it has probably had at least a confirm / deny from the club. Does that mean the club wouldn't lie to them? Of course not! But the club will use them. I'm being very specific around those 3-4 people. If they are in desperate need of a story, where is the latest link after Gattuso? To @thfcsteff 's point, they clearly show they won't make stuff up, because leaks stop. Things slow down.

I'm not talking about Klinsmann, or any link from any other journalist other than those three or four. The whole 'don't believe the links' thing has the whiff of not wanting to believe things might be as chaotic at the club as it appears, or that we have some amazing, yet to be revealed candidate up our sleeve. I will say again, if the club are in financial difficulties and need a cheap solution who is willing to work under serious constraints in the next two years, I am totally ok with that. I won't consider Levy to be a screw up, I'd consider it him doing the best thing for the club given the unprecedented situation we all had to deal with. I think that is completely the likely scenario. I would dearly love for us to pull someone amazing, proven, and a unifying figure out of the bag. But it doesn't look likely. I think the reality is we will probably end up with someone who would have been quite an underwhelming figure had we known who it would be at the point of sacking Jose, but maybe that is just the reality right now.

But trying to make out good journalists don't have sources, it just goes against everything anyone that has worked remotely closely to any industry which uses the media in any normal way knows to be true.

Where's the latest name after Gattuso? Why are they not frantically filling column inches making up the next story?

There has been, nuno and valverde.

Doesn’t seem like they’ve been reported as in serious discussion with the club by the core 3-4 journos though?

This is what I mean. I don’t see anyone losing their brick over Klinsmann or Nuno. I don’t think people have been taking those links seriously. It’s the ones that come from people with lines into the club that start to raise questions.

Romano is freelance

Romano just copies other people's stories and pretends that they are his information. He specialises in announcing a deal is completed after someone else has done it. He is a problem because there are people who hang on his every word and amplify him. It was him who was saying that Gattuso was at an advanced stage.

I agree with you on Gold, KP, JPB and Ornstein. I think that they are generally pretty reliable. Gold talks about how he won't write something unless he has multiple sources on his latest video, I think that he is also pretty good at being clear when he is writing about speculation.

The problem is that a lot of people just react to a headline and conflate it with gonad*s coming from Romano and elsewhere.

Yep.... which leaves us with the dregs. The managers that really want our job are likely to be managers down in the third tier of managers. We should be the ones doing the headhunting here (as is the case for all top jobs) not waiting for somebody to apply for the position!
I'll agree or disagree based on the outcome, not baseless rumour.
