Modric - No Longer A Spurs Player

modric cant compete with alonso for that position. unless jose is looking to change his style of play
Agreed.
I don't see Ozil going wide. Sami or Ozil lose out. Seems odd to say but Barca could use Modric more. XAVI & the rest could use more breaks. MESSI pushes up.
I would love to see Modric play in Dortmond's side next season. That team can play and it would be nice to see a new team in the Europe mix.

Lassana Diarra started 21 games last season.

Alonso started 50 and Khedira 28

Alonso turns 31 in November

Could quite easily see Diarra leave and a more balanced rotation of Modric, Alonso and Khedira.

Diarra is definitely leaving - heard that in the last game of the season

Will Modric leave now?

We've got to ask the question now? New manager/coach, wanted to buy him when at Chelsea (No 1 target allegedly for him, eh LFC;)...) can he and Levy talk the little man around and give us another year?

It's not beyond the bounds of possibility, but it can only be 80:20 against?

I think our signings are more likely to signal intent.

If we sign a 'world class' striker in the next 2/3 weeks he'll have to think about it..

If Modric has his way, he is out the door. It's going to be an interesting challenge to keep him, and keep him being professional. AVB should take the same stance that Redknapp did last season and publically demonstrate sympathy to Modric to the point where it seems he is at odds with that nasty Levy forcing him to stay. Basically good cop, bad cop. If AVB takes a harder line stance, or doesn't get involved, then Modric may well turn against the Manager and the unprofessionalism Modric exhibited for the first two games last year may well happen for a lot longer this year.

Modric also has time on his side this time around. Last year he would have wanted to make sure he wasn't stuck on the sidelines all year and not sharp for the Euros. Next season that isn't an issue.

i'm less sure than I was a week ago

the first thing AVB should do is talk to Luka and work out if he's in or out, then if needs be move him on as quickly as possible, the uncertainty won't do anyone any good

for my money, even if he does go, with Sigurdsson and a returning Huddlestone we have the players to minimise the impact, it will still be a loss, but it's not the hole (by which I mean gaping chasm of blackhole proportions) we had when Berbatov left

I think he's pretty much already gone.

But I think we'll do it on our terms - i.e. not till we get the right offer and have a direct replacement like Moutinho, Sahin or Cabaye in place.

Still have a sneeky feeling he may give us another season. Although if I were DL and AVB I would set a deadline for his decision, say July 16th.
If he's staying we can then look to spend the dosh on other positions, if he's intent on leaving, get on the phone to Porto

I think if the club does decide to let him leave, then they have to get it over and done with. We need that money in the bank before the start of August, preferbly sooner, so we can use it to build the team.

This.

If we do go after Moutinho/anyone, it will probably be a long drawn out process, especially considering clubs will know we have money to spend.

we could potentially bring in Sigurdsson Vertognhen and Oscar for what we sell Modric for

The longer we have him the less we can get for him. He wants to go. Get rid of the money grabber before its too late.

So if he goes will he go early in the window or late? So far, Levy's timing with the transition, the king is dead, the inter regnum, (whatever you want to call it) then long live the King has been impeccable. Got rid of Harry on the eve of the Euros to let his media mates' spleen venting die down under the cover of England doing slightly better than expected at the Euros, then pops out AVB early in the transfer window at a time when he can still have an influence to an extent over new players. I wonder how Levy will play this game of Poker? His win/win situation is to either keep a fired up Modric for another season (or possibly January if it has all gone tits up already) or extract the maximum amount of wedge out of the transfer fee early enough for Levy to buy a decent replacement/striker. Guess we'll be going to deadline day again then?
