Matt Doherty

So why have we bought him and got rid of KWP? (I was never a KWP fan for the record but he makes Doherty look like a championship level clogger)

Who the feck makes these decisions???????

Doherty, as average as he's been, is a much better player than KWP at this point. He was dreadful last night but he's been okay otherwise.

If you look back under Levy’s history for worst transfers by cost, performances and net loss Doherty is unlikely to figure. Has he really been worse than Bale, albeit with less need to acclimatise? Or Sessegnon who cost a lot more? I don’t remember another performance where I thought I wish we had the old Aurier playing and even yesterday he wasn’t the stand out brick player. His slip in possession was definitely not worse than Davies fudge up against Antwerp. We’ve barely played a quarter of the season and for all the failings the players that are deemed our Europa second string have enabled us to rest the first team and qualify from the group. We still have a lot of games left, in potentially different circumstances where the players can still have a telling impact. I think it’s also worth considering that the lack of a crowd can make some players play better (Aurier, Lloris?) as they can be focussed / hear coaches instructions and their team mates and there is less fear of the reaction to a mistake while others (Bale, Dele?) may feed off the energy of the crowd.

I think KWP has been surprisingly good and was far better than Doherty especially when age is taken into consideration. He was maybe a little young for a Jose defensive set up?

Doherty may be worth his transfer fee in the improvement he has made to Aurier

Doherty may not succeed (not every transfer does), but KWP wasn't the answer either, 12M for him and the fact that he allowed us to get PEH is a brilliant deal.

that's what was thinking, wrongly as it's turned out!
KWP rapidly entering to the merry group of ’oh know we didn't sell him did we’, typical Spurs!

I don’t think that lists that long and he isn’t fast or physical enough for our system. He’s very tidy but don’t think Mourinho values that in a full back. Good fit for Southampton and happy to see him doing well.

Have you watched KWP play this season? He's been depressingly good. Made Doherty look a bit old and brick to he honest.

Haven’t seen a huge amount of them but their defence was abysmal against us and someone else has said he looked poor v United. Any time he played for us, he looked a bit weak.

Have we had many of those really? We’ve had a few who looked great signings and then turned to brick while here (Rebrov, Postiga, Soldado) but I don’t recall too many we’ve sold that I wish we’d kept.

Other than the ones we didn’t want to sell and got top dollar for(Carrick, Berbs, Bale, Modric) not sure any have gone on to bigger and better things? Walker I guess and again big fee for him.
Exceptions being Paulinho and KPB getting Barcelona gigs I suppose?
Then there’s a couple who though they had gone on to better things and found out the grass isn’t always greener (Keane, Eriksen, Carr :D )

They said he was brick, but at the same time they said he should cost us 30m +
My favourite was when Le Tisser said he wouldn’t be missed, I did a quick G̶o̶o̶g̶l̶e̶ Danny Rose and found an easier comment that he would be difficult to replace!

Maybe once Doherty adjusts he will improve. No one really wanted us to keep Aurier in the summer but he has improved a lot recently and deserves his place.

after he slipped yesterday he looked injured, he's not been as bad as he was Thursday night!

I’m glad we sold him
It’s good for him and great for us
His move meant would could get Hojdjberg...
And he is the best midfielder in the league right now
