Phew.

They all count, but once again, we don't look fluid at all. And it's interesting how much more fluid we looked when Sissoko went off, although truth be told, West Brom were flagging by that point and that also played its part.

Good grinding out of the win, excellent game management for the final five minutes, Vinicus' needless giveaway at the end notwithstanding.

Top now, for a couple of hours. Maybe, heading into this difficult run that awaits us after the break, that will be just what the team needs. Also apparently first time we've been top of the league for six years, a stat that is utterly shocking in and of itself - we never led the league at any point under Poch? Christ.

Changes worked, could have done with them at earlier. No way that level of penetration would have been accepted in a Europa game.

We need to seriously reconsider what our midfield three is going to be in future games.

It isnt working or creating anywhere near enough. We will not keep getting out of jail.

He has to start picking hojbjerg, ndombele and lo celso. Its not even that controversial a midfield three, ndombele isnt dele or eriksen for example so doesnt have to play as far forward as lo celso - he should be fine doing the dembele role next to hojbjerg. Sissoko doesnt offer anything significant.

Yes get sissoko on once that midfield three I am suggesting have won games like today 4-0. Then bring him on to rest someone else or get him on when we are 2-0 up.

Do not start him or its stale brick like today.

Awful game. Far from convincing. Great that we get top spot for a few hours at least, but I hope Jose can get us back to our Man Utd and West Ham (first half) threatening selves. Otherwise things don't augur well for the run we have coming up.

@milo Dier MoM. Reguilon played ok as well.

Thought the same with that Vincius decision. Players need to think like Spurs fans!

when we play the 'better' teams, it'll be a whole lotta open, and we'll probably go counter attack

Exactly this. Then it’ll be a question of whether we can defend as well as we have in recent weeks. If we can, we will pick up a lot of important points.

Only time was during the NLD. Top for 14 minutes in live play if that actually counts

No!!!!! I wasn't the only one who thought it a total flimflam excuse.

But I'll I hold my hands up, I didn't expect us to get that over the line. I'm delighted we've snatched it. Not a good performance at all, but a brilliant result.

Top of the league, no narrative required. The looming question remains though; can we get back to playing like we did against UTD and half of West Ham?

Hopefully the international break allows for some big bucking up of ideas.

I think the Utd result needs perspective. They had a man off for over half the game and let themselves fall apart.

The truth is this side is going to find it easier not playing well drilled defensive sides. We will look better against sides with equal ambition.

And I stand by my tiredness comments. Whether we have a big squad or not, Sonny in particular looked knackered (also in the middle of one of his lull spells) and Kane too. It is the mentality which got us there today. Let's at least recognize and celebrate that...

Jose needs to learn that against crap sides you play your more technical players, you cant play Sissoko in a midfield with another defensive midfielder because we just give up too much possession. Its counter productive
Lo Celso and NDombele are never fully fit at the same time, Lo Celso isn’t currently fully fit. Also is pretty clear Hojberg isn’t exactly a defensive midfielder, he is far more progressive than we imagined he would be.And I’m not really sure who you are to tell one of the most successful managers in the history of the game what he needs to learn....

I think playing two holding players against a struggling team is a mistake. Want to see Gio and Ndombele

Thing is though we won. I thought Sissoko was pants on the ball but we needed to fight today and I'll bet that is why he was there!

People complaining about performance should realize this is Mourinho ball. He doesn’t want to dominate possession or own midfield. Sometimes it wins the biggest cups. If it even wins one for us it’s worth it in my book. We have won three games playing his way against drawing two playing more expansively so he may have a point.... We have great finishers who can take advantage of fewer chances.
