Jose Mourinho - SACKED

They call it a football Meritocracy on this weeks athletic podcast
Can’t say I can disagree TBF
Aurier being a good example of a player getting the next game on merit
With the volume of games we have that can only be a good thing
But to now have 2 genuine options for every positions I think it’s unique in comparison to everyone else.

My Everton supporting mates think their squad is strong even after letting Walcott go but the cover they have for DCL is Tosan or moving someone else out of position like Richarlson which is exactly what we used to do

we know it’s gonna be a long season in number of games if not time. So we’re now arguably the best shocked we have been that I can remember
What is a DCL, Defensive Central Left?! And who is Tosan?

The CB’s are still a big concern but on the whole yes he’s backed. It was probably unrealistic to expect a CB after all the activity in this window. Best window we’ve had that I can remember.
I’d say it’s the best window any top side has had
To improve the first 11 so much is rare
We have added arguably 4 new starters in one window and the last time a genuine top team did that it was pool the year the got dingdong Van Dijk abs Allison

If you consider Bale the third best player in the world then it's the best window since Enic took over. I don't even consider the CBs "a big concern." Are they for example worse than Leicester's when they won the league?

On paper, no - in reality? Yes

Difference between Poch and Jose is Jose is not afraid to drop players who are brick. Poch was to scared to do that. That is the difference when it comes to winning.
Doesn’t that come with familiarity and potentially being too matey with the players?
Poch was trying to change that and I think he missed a trick not changing a coach to help with it

We also didn't really have the squad to dramatically change things. No real competition for Kane or willingness to develop that competition. 0 alternative to Eriksen, we only really had any depth with the FBs which he did rotate to good effect.

It would be interesting to know if the size of the squad was limited by Poch or outside demands

Was listening to a podcast earlier and this is important, not only do we have a squad with depth (when did we last say that?) but Jose running something of a meritocracy.

Man U away, probably biggest game of the season so far, Lamela started, Ndombele, Sissoko, Aurier. Players who have been slightly on the fringe the last few weeks.

Very happy to see that. Aurier probably played his best ever game for us, Lamela integral for the win not just for the red but he won us the first goal.

And as i said before, couple the players look like they're starting to look and feel a bit different from just a few weeks ago. Let's hope we smash the Spam in a couple of weeks.

everyone assumed it was a Poch call on squad size
And squad size is fine if you have the right balance of players

Helps when you have a deep squad, something the former never really had.

Hence why plenty of poor performers last season kept their place in the team under Mourinho.

I think Levy trust Jose more than everyone before him. He definitely knows what he is talking about and maybe Levy has found somebody he could really understand and trust.
