Transfer thread

The chances of him joing are I think literally 0. We are undoubtedly a step down for him and pretty much every serious team in Europe will be interested in him.
Despite having rinsed in more money last year than Real Madrid, United, or Barcelona, we have the budget and wages of Kilmarnock.
fudging embarrassing to see us currently scrabbling around down the back of the sofa for loose change.
From Champions League final to failing to sign Championship players - in 12 months...

Yep, most are realistic.

but to not be able to spend anything (if true) is shambolic.

We must have spunked 100-150m net since you cost us the final? Who is the championship player we have failed to sign?
Don’t get me wrong, I’d like to see some form of net investment this window, although some smart ins and outs in positions we are weak might be more important than a headline signing - but until its closed it’s a little early to be calling it a failure. Kwp for Hojbjerg is a good start?

Aarons. Eze. Wilson. Not exactly Dybala and Bruno Fernandes anymore!

Net spend since the final doesn’t really count when you remember we didn’t sign anyone for 13 years before that!!

We’ve also In recent times sold Eriksen, Walker, Dembele, Wanyama, Trippier and other squad crap.

It was @Bedfordspurs i believe.... Not sure on what evidence?

It sounds as though Chelsea are also pressing ahead on deals for Chilwell and Silva as well. I think they will be title challengers this coming season.... Werner, Ziyech, Haivertz, Chilwell and Silva is fantastic squad strengthening

yeah I stand by what I said
They want to sell to buy
The issue they have is that no one is buying
They can’t back down on this after all the negotiations but there is talk that Chillwell now has an ankle issue after they agreed a £50m fee.. strange that

they IMO won’t be challengers but they will be top 4, but they let in the most goals in the top 10 last season and their not signing players to fix that side still

And of course as I’ve said before their binning of the kids after making some string claims it’s their future

and of course they have a lot of players to shift

No one else has bought those players you mention though and we might not be in for them?
I also think the complete non spend to raise funds for the stadium was a mistake, if we continue to not spend after it than would be an ever bigger one, but you said from a CL a final to not being able to sign a championship player, so in that sense like everyone else you’ve probably forgotten Jack Clarke!
I’m no Levy apologist but to criticise this windows activity before the window has closed doesn’t make sense to me.

Have you ever seen Levy act quickly and have a tremendous window ever? I have not.

He was pretty quick to get the Furlough and cheap loan in!

No he rarely makes early moves, which is why Hojberg is a positive start.
if we are looking backwards there have been windows that I’ve thought were ok in terms of the personnel purchased and with the power of hindsight most of our tremendous signings have actually come a little under the radar. But in terms of releasing no extra funds not raised from sales and making no signings at all I’ve often said that strategy seems negligent to me, which would be countered by Levy with the fact it has realised a bigger potential income stream for us. That’s in the past though, I thought this thread was about the current window.
I’m not predicting a great window, it just doesn’t make sense to be criticising our business for this one before it is finished. As much as I’d like is to spend big I’d prefer us to be buying what we need - when we spend big we don’t seem to do that well - perhaps because we are still trying to sign with sell on value and our wage structure in mind. With the state of the squad last season I’d like to see us buy Prem proven players hungry to prove themselves and are already adapted to the league, rather than a cast off from a CL club or someone who’s had a good year in Ligue one.

With most countries having issues with the UKs quarantine rules any player signed from Europe would need a 14 day quarantine before even having a medical
That lends itself to U.K. based players straight away

I understand there's some logic in that situation, but I'd rather base our recruitment on ability rather than availability of two weeks quarantine.

Gabriel was given dispensation to have one for the Scum today ahead of signing and now has to quarantine.

Flushes out time-wasters I guess!

To be honest, you’ve taken my “and we can’t even sign a championship player” literally.

It was meant as a ‘look at who else everyone else is signing, the ambition other teams are showing, but we are scrapping around in the bargain barrel’.

....Despite being the 8th richest club in the world.

Chelsea in for Patrick Schick now!! Ffs!!!!

You’ve got to applaud them really. Must be absolutely incredible knowing you have an owner who is prepared to back the manager with top players, and who wants to give the fans the best and to win the club trophies.

Have you been taking your misery pills again mate ;) or is the lock down getting to you.

Is anyone other than Chelsea doing much business?

Not really following it atm
Arsenal just signed that good Brazilian defender from Lille.

Liverpool going for Thiago from Bayern.

Emirates Marketing Project spent chump change for them so far but promising to go for Koulibaly and more.

Is that the lad that was on loan at Leipzig?

i thought he was woeful when we played them

I admit, I’m on a downer at the moment.

Coming here for a grumble to cheer myself up!

It happens to as all at times, my old grandaddy had a saying " it can be better to be at the bottom of a ladder because you can only go up, however if you are at the top you can only go down"

Did i say my grandad liked a drink.
