Don't think i've read anywhere, ever, that the mask will stop COVID spreading.

I think what has been mentioned, is that COVID spreads majority through droplets, which, if wearing a mask, will absorb some of those droplets, not all, reducing the ability to spread COVID but not stopping it.

I mean, it might all be nonsensical. But as i said before, if it reduces the chances of spreading COVID by even 1%, is that not worth it given we have 45K recorded deaths (65k if you use excess death statistic)?

It might not save anyone though, in which case, you've had to wear a mask for 30 mins whilst shopping in Tesco. Hardly been asked to walkthrough the Sahara barefoot now is it?
The tinkling/pants theory is a good analogy. If both are naked and one takes a tinkle on you, you get wet. If you wear pants and the other not, some gets through, but not as much. If both wear pants, it stays with the one who takes a tinkle.

I take it that you are that young that the first Gulf War in '79 is not something you remember? We should have a discussion! It is the first modern pillar to Middle East disaster, but if you really want to see the root of it all IMO, check out this book (disclosure - I have mentioned this before ages ago)...All The Shah's Men by Stephen Kinzer.
It is a vital book for understanding how the west has consistently interfered with the Middle East (even though some consider Iran "Asia" due to it's specific geographic location)."
Check out a few excerpts of nothing else, be interested in your response.

The first Iraq war was all about Haliburton and the corrupt Republican shareholders who were also members of the cabinet cashing in on decisions to invade another country. The Right wingers don't do conflict of interest, Tories, or Repugs.

My heart broke watching the programme this week and the confusing to innocent Iraqi’s fishing their families out of rubble.

I always knew the war was a sham never in doubt, seeing the wreck it caused during and after on film hits it home Though, sobering.

What our Tony was doing involved in something like that....wow

Oh I remember, that’s my point, there are crimes past presidents are accountable for they are not.

I remember the sect of Muslims brainwashed by the US to uprise against Saddam in the first gulf war only for him to slaughter them in huge numbers and the US to be nowhere.

Will have a read up, just into the Northern Irish conflict at moment

Sorry to butt in, but if you’re reading about the Troubles I can’t recommend highly enough Patrick Radden Keefe’s ‘Say Nothing’. I grew up in N Ireland in the 70s and 80s. For me, it’s a very balanced account told from a number of perspectives of those on different sides of the conflict. I read it last Christmas and couldn’t put it down.

If you’ve got any good recommendations for reads on the same topic it would be great to hear them.

Really appreciate the recommendation.

I’ve been reading making sense of the troubles, it’s a really good read, it’s like “the troubles for dummies” hah

ICYMI here’s the Florida Karens providing their anti-mask explanations

What they give as their reasons, which probably is what they actually think, is one thing.

For me the simplest plausible explanation is that "their side" has wanted to minimise the pandemic as much as possible at just about every step of the way. Masks are not just a way of taking the pandemic seriously, it's a very visual signal of taking the mask seriously. Probably a good mix of science and expertise denial mixed in.

Had Trump come out early and clearly in favour of masks out the thinking and reasoning would be turned on its head.

He's been at it forever.

You should see what he used to do with the Trump Foundation money.
No doubt. His whole time in office has been a massive grift for him and his family.
Was the foundation money used to buy his portrait? Seems a lifetime ago.

I daresay when his tax details finally see the light of day it will show him buried under mountains of debt.
