However, like it or not for Poch to be considered a truly top coach he has to win trophies. We had lower expectations, there was less pressure on Poch than his rivals and when there was expectations because we had got to a position where we could really achieve we flopped. Yes, they have had more money to spend etc we all know that and that of course can't be discounted, but with that comes a lot more pressure to deliver in the very biggest events which they do regularly. Not to say Poch cant, but thats what he has to do one way or another to show he really is one of the best. Its like being a top striker, the hardest thing to do in football is actually put the ball in the back of the net. That's why the top strikers are valued the most, and why Jose etc get paid the most. They are finishers. I really hope Poch becomes one too.....

I agree but my point was where he ranks in my affections and his time at the club, be it trophies or not, not if the greater game consider him a great coach.

442 offers a lot of scope to change to 433 or 424 against teams parking the bus.

They are being sensationalist but I thought it was quite clear what Mourinho was saying. He was being very clever about it but he was basically saying "It's laughable that they aren't banned".

Whatever else Mourinho is, he's a very witty and intelligent man.

We simply haven't. Kane has been a lone striker virtually every time he has played.

It's not Son next to Kane it's Sissoko not being next to Winks.

When they are paired together they bring out the worst of each other, no complimentary attributes at all and they actually detract from each other.

TBF they have for over a season filled a gap where we had 3 very decent DMs.

The Dier, Dembele and Wanyama rotation was for me a huge part of our success

They are not natural to that role as that three are or were.

Sissoko for me has done a lot of stop gap work at Spurs and for long periods has been a bright light in what has been a dull 18 months

He hasn't, however, had Lucas and Sissoko staying wide with two central mids in a four that I can recall as a game plan. He has usually looked to retain there 4-2-3-1, and I think that is where a lot of our issues have been because he doesn't especially care for it. I always saw him as a 4-3-3 bloke, but 4-4-2 works well for what we have.

All true, and in fairness I thought the Liverpool game was very, very unlucky, but I think it is fair to say this is the first time we've seen a 4-4-2 for some time. Maybe because he only deploys it against big clubs? I'd like to see him stick to it until we develop the time/players for 4-3-3 which I feel will be the way we play next. season.

We've consistently defended in a 4-4-2 in the big games and when we are trying to play out a lead. I think that you are right that this is the first time he has done it with that line up but some of that has been forced on him. Sissoko and Moura worked really well in those roles.

We saw it against United in our first game of the restart. So he's done it in both of our big games after the break.

I'm not sure how it would work against the smaller sides but the team are used to transitioning between that and 4-2-3-1, so it is something that is easily adjusted if it's not working.

it was encouraging on many levels. He made changes, he started to see pairings which don't work, and I have to say our defending has improved. I am going to put the lemons away, take a deep breath and try again. He is actually endearing when he gets it right/things are going well. It is when they aren't...on a different note, I wonder what this means for Dele. I love him but am having a hard time seeing where he fits in this shape/formation, unless Son drops back and takes over from Sissoko, which would actually leave us in better attacking shape? I am eager to see the Dele/Kane resumption, but even when playing badly, Sonny is telly important.

I think the biggest thing is that the players know what he wants and what they're doing which I have not always been convinced by. You/someone made a great observation re: Moura that when he is given a specific role he is much much better!

But he does say it is a disgraceful decision, so Sky are obviously going to use his words?!

I mentioned to someone the other day that those three all seemed to fall apart at the same time - probably a key contribution to our decline post leaving WHL, in hindsight we needed to act quicker to address that.

He's used Dele as the #10 in a 4-4-2 early on in his tenure, so it is something that he might try again. I don't think that this will be a permanent switch of formation and that he'll continue with 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 against the smaller teams.

We really have not recovered. The sheer strength and defensive excellence we had with them made us such a force.
