Transfer thread

He is a average
Good footballer but rubbish defender
I regularly get told I’m wrong but players like him flatter to deceive because they can pass and play but can’t actually tackle or head

It’s too true. So they’re not good enough with the ball to be a midfielder, but not good enough without the ball to be a true centre back. So they sit in the role as centre back and everyone praises them as they can pass the ball....wow, praise for what ‘should’ be a simple skill for a professional who earns, I’d guess, in excess of £50,000 per week.

I blame Philipe Albert... everyone loved him but by GHod he was brick at defending

Could not agree more, signing someone under 6 foot just seems odd considering how much defending in the air a centre half does.

I disagree heading ability is one part of the game, mobility and reading of situations is much more important, we have signed plenty of "big" centreback who weren't very good in the air: John Lacy, Willie Young, Kevan Scott, Ramon Vega, Anthony Gardner etc. Its not about your height it's about positioning, timing and leaping ability.

A couple of pages back we were talking about how clubs assess potential signings (Not just skill but personality etc) and why would anyone consider someone like Aurier a good signing....
Today there is an article saying Monaco are looking at Aurier and that Spurs old recruitment guru Paul Mitchell is a big fan and wants to bring him in now he is Sporting Director!
Funny old world ain't it?*

*Note: I'm not a fan personally just found it interesting

The were several interviews at the time were Mitchell said one of the criteria for signing Janssen was because he had over come being released as a youngster.

Mitchell and his black box were so over rated. I love RB leipzig team but honestly i watch about 12 hours of football a week 8 months of th year. I could scout and create a team as well as he could.

Apparently we're interested in the Korean CB Kim Min-Jae. Mentioned by solid sources like Sky Sports and one ITK.
This is a shame though, miss the serious national service fears and having a vested interested in the Asian games...
Kim was a part of the South Korea under-23 team that beat Japan in the final of the Asian Games on 1 September 2018 – a result that secured him an exemption from 21 months of military service.

I’m far fond convinced by Mitchell and many in his role as most are buying known quantities
The clever ones identify the Kantes and Mahrezs

My thoughts as well, and from what i remember two of our b est C B ( Mabbut and Gough) were both under 6 feet tall.

Think most on here who watch a lot of football know a player when they see one.

For example a load of us could name 4 or 5 good strikers. But the key is to sign someone who fits into the system we play if your a director of football you need to understand how the coach wants the team to play and whether the player your scouting can play in either of the coaches preferred formations.

Im not sure we always do this. But the links to the tall Russian lad on a free transfer says to me we are looking at a certain type of striker.

Would like to see us go back and identify lower league talent like we used to which is why i have mentioned jade jones a few times and also gerdalht at wigan.

Young lower league or experienced capable back up can help
Doesn’t mean we don’t need some frost team players but we shouldn’t ignore depth and youth

Wasn't sure where to put this but was surprised to see James Maddison has gone 14 games (12 starting, 2 sub) without a goal or assist. The last being on New Years Day.

Some feat considering he takes pretty much everything.

Tidy footballer but a bit overrated in my opinion.
