i see your point. good ones too

but unless you have a crystal ball then 4th at any point should be considered good

not to mention that it wasnt as clearly that the other teams were bad as it was that the rest of the premiership are getting better at grinding out results, so now they dont just lose when a team undrperforms

which brings me to something else, your talking about the factors that contributed to us being seen as title contenders. what about the factors that HINDERED us? what do you have to say about them?

I think we were incredibly unlucky. The disallowed goals, the England speculation, Chelsea's ridiculous luck, basically every little thing and every big thing that could go against us, did go against us. So I'm quite sure Harry would have got us 3rd if even half of all that bad luck didn't happen. I don't have any issue with him as a manager. It's nice to have good players and see them perform to their level. It was always frustrating under Jol or Ramos that we had good players that just didn't perform because there was something missing for them. Harry keeps it simple and with good players, that means relative consistency. I said I didn't really want to defend him any more after the omission that speculation affects players, but I would actually feel some sadness if he went. He has delivered us consistency.

So there was a fair bit that hindered us. So no issue with Harry there. No issue with anyone really. Except John Terry. It was basically GHod/The Universe saying 'Nuh-uh Tottenham, you simply should not getting any ideas about getting above your station, it will be the Europa League for you next year' because so much went against us and there's nothing much that could have been done about it.

...So actually I've just seen your point :) I was about to say that we still should have gotten 3rd considering how crap the other teams were, due to all their unfortunate circumstances. But actually we had seriously unfortunate circumstances ourselves too. So in actual fact we should be bloody grateful that we were good/lucky enough to have such a strong run in the first half of the season. Chelsea had a bad manager for them, Arsenal had fudge loads of injuries and loss of key players, Liverpool wasted tonnes of money, and we had to deal with England speculation and bad luck a plenty. So maybe 4th is an achievement considering all of that.

Immensely frustrating, because all that considered, losing your key players, wasting money or hiring the wrong manager are all things self inflicted by those clubs. The bad luck and speculation was simply things out of our control going against us. The only thing we were at fault for was having a manager good enough to be linked with England. The world just isn't fair.

and you said I was unfair to BoL?

everything i said there is on the money, he's the single biggest WUM i have ever seen on this board, albeit an intelligent one who does a good job of making it look otherwise. whenever he is around an argument isn't far away - his sole purpose is to dig people out with differing opinions to his own and cause conflict

We dominate possession more than that, hardly any football is played in our third with opposition possession. And the names were NOT implied. We were talking about comparitive to other Premiership teams and world class players. Do you GENUINELY believe we have world class defenders? Personally I don't believe we have a single defender who is anywhere near world class (King in his prime was world class, but that was long gone. Gallas in his prime was a fantastic player, but never world class).

How do you explain then whenever our midfield did have a brick game, the defence fell to bits?

We were 4th last season. Whether we were punching above our weight or only got 4th due to other teams underperforming we did get it. So there is no supposed about it.

1 win in 9 games? Depends on the opposition. If we had a fixture list of 9 matches of Utd (H), Arsenal (H), Chelsea (H), Saudi Sportswashing Machine (A), City (H), Everton (A), Liverpool (A), Stoke (A) Fulham (A) - then I genuinely wouldn't be shocked if we failed to win a single match. Indeed with those away fixtures you certainly wouldn't expect us to win any of them (and if we did, it would be a bonus).

I agree with Rossi here (although not sure if you meant I was on your ignore list or Billyiddo after that previous post...so I hope this gets seen!)

Our defence isn't as bad as you are making out. BAE is left to do the defensive duty for often the entire left flank considering Bale is told to take a position high up the pitch and wait for the counter. Lennon tends to track back slightly more but Walker is fairly similar as a defender to BAE, they are both good at recovery and good one on one. Kaboul is good for us in terms of keeping possession and quick so we can play the high line. But you don't like any of them. Maybe they aren't the type of defenders you want if you are planning to play a defensive game with the team behind the ball for long periods (although on the rare times we did play like that last season - Chelsea away - we deserved to win) but they are good for our system.

You seem to value certain types of defenders and consider different types as not good enough, even though they are really just different types. I used to be the same with all players. I used to think Carrick-type passers were the only players worth having and any other players were brick if they didn't fit that mould. But really if players have reached that elite level and they are getting picked every week, you know in some way they are doing a good job. Particularly if it is someone like Harry picking them, who wouldn't be shy about benching and replacing players he thought were rubbish.

The names are implied. Yes, you're saying we keep possession so that protects our defence, congratulations. Now how about the other 45% of the game where we don't have the ball?

Every team can point at wrong decisions.

One win from nine is an appalling run no matter what order the games are in, especialy for one that is supposed to be a top 3/4 team.

of course, but they're not all equal.

we had 4 goals wrongly chalked off. 2 or 3 of which, maybe more, were game changers - to go 2-1 up against chelsea at home (not even mentioning the handball for their goal), and the travesty (onside, our pen, our red) at Stoke. how about the 'leveller' at home v Wolves just before HT?

Man U had the pen against them v Saudi Sportswashing Machine that wasn't a pen, gooners had a goal on the last day against them that offside (that didn't matter in the end). Fulham could have had a pen against us, we could have had one against them. there were also the 2 red cards that weren't given when we played City - that would more than likely have affected the result.

all I'm saying is that people point the finger at Harry and assert that 'their' way (JD rather than Parker at Villa, for example) would have made a difference, then they have to also take into account these wrongful decisions that were factually incorrect.

just in case we've forgotten...

Ade was given off for THIS -

AAAAAaaaand, I can't find a decent pic of the chelsea one!

I have known MK as a poster for years, and you wouldn't believe the mud slinging debates and arguments we have had. To say we don't see eye to eye would be an understatement.

However, he understands football, and is a rational and intelligent guy, and a passionate debater of what he perceives to be right. I don't agree with everything he says (he is far too critical of Spurs players IMV) but I can't help but sneakily admire the way he backs and substantiates his arguments.

I see people get wound up by him, but not because he seeks to wind them up, but because he refuses to back down from what he believes, and you better have your argument right, or you will come out of the discussion looking a Kuntz, and with your dignity in tatters. I have seen a couple of idiots actually think they have won arguments with him, because they didn't know when to quit, and having made his point he ceases to be bothered to continue to argue with them, which they childishly has led them to believe that they have secure the argument.

In keeping with my past, I should also list his faults , but I don't want to put you to sleep. But trust me on one thing, his footballing knowledge and maturity and experience makes him a far more listenable prospect that almost all of the posters on the board.

He is, however, a complete ****

O:)

this is going way off track Mick and it's not the type of thing i like to clog the board up with, so i'll leave it - no doubting he knows his onions when it comes to football/tactics though, that point i will concede. too many times though ive seen him walk in to a debate, totally misconstrue what people are saying and run away when he has been put in a position where he has no answer.

Not sure Levy will appreciate Arry talking about his mum dying last week.

Can't keep his mouth shut can he?!

doesn't really matter does it?

He will be pilloried by certain posters, no matter what he says.

and no matter what he says he will be defended by others . . . . (even if he contradicts himself-says something hypocritical etc etc ;) )

id like to know what he said as im not watching and going by what Southstand/Bullet have said it sounds interesting

It was a serious grilling from Lineker

Said he found out about Roy's appointment in the papers

Said he'd really miss club management (versus international).

Said he loves the day to day work, says "he lives for it", and international management wouldn't be the same

Said he would've taken the England job (no surprises there)

Said he really wants to stay at Spurs

Said he hopes to chat with Levy about his future, but as he's lost his mum, he's not even thinking about it

Said how desperately unlucky we were during the "blip"

Said the Dutch have a flaky defence

Said England have a really solid defence

Said "triffic"

I might have missed a few things
