Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Ndombele is a full international and Champions league player. He went to City last year and ran the game. When he plays we play better. Play him and we might not be in this situation.

How is it not pressure to bring him on when losing and asking him to turn the game around?

Do you remember who started against Bayern -and failed to clear the ball twice right before HT? He played some excellent football that night but he was not always sharp covering defensive areas and when in them did not always make the best decisions. Now, before you think I am blaming him (I am not!) let me make it clear that the reason I raise this is because teams and systems take time.

Imagine Poch knew in July that Eriksen, Rose and Toby were all gone. Boom. He can work Ndombele into a system knowing the shape of who will be there. Instead, he has to go into fudging SEPTEMBER because these pack of clams might still be sold abroad! So instead of being able to bring Ndombele into a stable situation he has to work him into a system using players either unavailable or on their way maybe. At City, he let countless people go and we were lucky not to get Bayerned!

I think Ndombele is going to be a genuine star, and with LoCelso looks to be an exciting future. But with the situation right now it could shatter him to park him in matches like this right now.

Lots of interesting opinions on Poch and what he’s done/doing well and not so well, but there’s only really a few that count, players & fans aside.
1)Poch himself
2)Levy and his trusted aides
3)Some other group i’ve Left out and i’m Sure someone will pick them out :D
What timeframe do people think it will be that we stop talking about him, at least in this chapter, for one reason or another. Ie he gets everyone on side/tells us he’s off / Get’s offed by Levy?

I do not see him getting sacked whatsoever for a variety of reasons involving belief in his ability, reality of what he has had to deal with, fear of handing someone else a great manager and the fiscal cost of dismissal. I believe he wants to get a crack at MkII. As for when people will be quiet, when we start winning. Same as ever really. Until then, people will be all over him. Personally? Hoping we can stay within this 8 points of 4th into January and then sort out some debris. Put a run together and top 4 is very possible. Lots to go yet and only City and Liverpool are in another space...

We are fortunate that Woolwich are imploding, Man U are a basket case and the Chavs will hit a dip at some point and are a young team.
I hope other teams pay relevant attention to Leicester this season... instead of giving a small team like them another passage of safety.

You know, educate me mate. Explain to me how that line-up is designed to go and “scrap a 0-0 draw”?
Rose? Eriksen? Alli? Son? Kane?
If we wanted to “scrap a draw” would he not have gone for Dier next to Sissoko and Davies at LB?

As for ball retention, save Dier for Eriksen I don’t see it. Who? Ndombele? Brilliant and exciting talent though he is, with Liverpool aggressively pressing as they were, and Ndombele enjoying the high-risk inside spin and pass, just one of those picked off fast ends up a potential chance against. Again, what changes to retain the ball?
Agreed. We were playing deep, but I think 95%+ of us on here have always said you have to play deep against Liverpool to avoid them exploiting the space in behind with their pacy wide forwards.

The disgrace is, IMO, just how readily people are accepting the "Well we shouldnt expect a result there anyway" line of thought.

Really shows how accepting of our current form/prospects people are. Im not. We are more than good enough to go to Liverpool and take the game to them. Or, at least, we should be.

That we went there with the intent to just sit and defend like a lower league team in the hope of a result is the real disgrace.

I understand the reasons why, but that only speaks to how far back we have fallen from where we should be.
I remember when 4 points per season from the victims was a minimum, and finishing below them was a disaster.

You've kinda highlighted my point, Poch in his actions clearly doesn't mind putting these players in to pressure situations so by saying what he says in the media it's pretty self explanatory that he is looking to divert pressure from the outside rather not trusting his players himself or thinking they can't handle pressure, it's just good management to lessen pressure on new signings and literally every manager will do so.
Of course Poch is right to protect his players in the media - but he takes it to a frankly ridiculous extreme. Imagine if you were a new player who he keeps refusing to start and says it will take you two years to get up to speed. I can’t think of any other manager that doesn’t use his new expensive signings right from the get go.

Klopp with Keita and Fabinho at Liverpool instantly spring to mind.

And a cursory look at Citys last 2 big signings show Cancelo having played in 3 games so far this season and Rodri 8, so somewhat comparable to Ndombele and Lo Celso (who lets not forget have both had differing injury issues to contend with)

Excellent points, and let's pause for a moment to recognize how masterfully Klopp handled Fabinho. I did not see the player he has nurtured, and for me, he was the main difference on Sunday; what an important player he is for them.

Did you hear/read what Kane said? He made the point that scoring so early changed the pattern of the game as we were forced to defend hard against a side at the top of their game. He actually SAID “we did not get to play the game we wanted” or words to that effect. We can certainly question why an early goal at Anfield could not lead to going for the jugular (opposition quality/confidence) but you honesty cannot look at that line-up and claim we went with the intent to sit and defend.

I will further this. If Sonny scores and doesn’t hit the bar, we’d have scored again on the break. There was increasing space in the channels and they’d have pushed higher and more desperately.

Did I hear Kane making bland footballer speak for the cameras? No, wasnt interested.

You are right, we CAN question why going ahead would mean we dont pursue that advantage, or use that cushion to play our game, but instead mean we have an excuse to sit in deeper and deeper and invite pressure. Thats a very good question. Actually, I think its the real question.

We went to Anfield with 4 at the back, narrow, to try and cover their attacking three. Then we asked our two wingers (neither really equipped for the job) to track their fullbacks, which inevitably put them back with the defence, then we had a midfield 3 that was soley focused on stopping Liverpool playing.

I understand the nature of defending deep(er) and trying to play on the break. I would suggest this went to far, sitting too deep, and leaving us with little options on the out ball.

A few decent chances on the break (got to pump those xg numbers) would not change the fact many predicted the loss when they saw the line up, and pretty well nobody expected the win when we scored. Theres a reason for that, we were bunkered in and defending (pretty well, to be fair, save for the flanks) and that was about it.

How exactly does scoring an early goal lead to a disadvantage? By that logic we should have won the CL...

I'm calling it. Fail to win either of our next two league games and Poch is gone in the international break.

If he can survive a 2-7 home defeat and 3-0 to Brighton then I think he’s safe for the rest of this season. Relegation fears not withstanding.

You may want to get your memory checked old man. We've won in the league at Anfield 3 times since 1912. If 4 points was ever a minimum against those dirty bindippers, it was also the maximum we would have expected.

Also, we hadn't finished above them in decades until Harry Redknapp put us regularly above them. He was a great manager wasn't he?

Out of context .. those managers can afford to take their time as the teams don't need those players to win games.

Why not talk about how quickly Klopp put VVD and Allison in the side?
