I doubt Poch is making it a condition of him staying that his son stays with us.

I even doubt that Poch is suggesting in any way that it would be preferable for us if Poch jr stays.

I imagine some of the higher ups in the club have made a decision that it does not harm the club to keep his son on the books but the upside, in terms of the happiness and comfort it gives our best manager in decades....is quite high.

Also Poch is not some kind of saint. He is a family man and like almost every single human in history, will be looking out for his family and especially kids and trying to make sure they get the best start they can in life. He's not holding the club to ransom, he's not ruining anything at the club. Just maximising the chances his son can have a professional career in football, at whatever level possible.

I think if you watch the Soccer AM video where Poch is asked about his son, he very clearly doesn’t want to talk about it. I don’t think he wants his son to be treated any differently at all and views it as his career. He says he will see if he’s lucky enough to become a pro.

If he was as average as is being made out, I don’t think we’d keep him on in spite of that and I’d think Poch would encourage him to get a club more suited to his standard. Otherwise it goes against everything he stands for, every kind of value he has tried to instill.

Yep. Biggest game of his career and he's left scraping the barrel a bit. Thought he got it wrong at the start but find it very hard to criticise him too much.

Part of our problem wasn't just shape anyway, it was how far we stood off them. The players need to take responsibility for that.

He did get it working after the initial onslaught. And the spirit of this group to not drop their heads when Verts went off was impressive.

But what club plans for losing their two best strikers and their best play making midfielder all at the same time?

It’s like Barca losing Suarez, Messi and Rakatic for tomo and expecting to win

We had 40 odd goals missing from that line up

He admitted it in the post match interview when asked about the starting formation.....honest as ever....rather than do the Pep stare down and act like a c.unt.

Agree 100%. He's been managing a very thin squad with key players unavailable and other key players running on fumes. Thought from the off tonight that he picked the wrong team but that's easy for me to say. Could Sissoko play 90 mins? If not, would Dier in the middle have given us much? Would dropping Llorente and pushing Alli further forward have made much difference.

I don't know. And I've so much admiration for Poch that I just can't criticise him much given the circumstances he's managing in.

His crossing was abysmal and he played one backpass that I really couldn't believe. It helped that Ajax offered very little second half bar when we gifted them the ball (Toby, I'm looking at you too).

Foyth is a much better choice for that position right now.

That’s 5 players who all have been important in the CL games this season

To strikers with 42 goals alone

But I will add sissoko... what a man
He was passing the ball with aplomb, driving runs and clearing the ball in tackles
They hated playing against him and he really changed it up
 
I think Poch made pretty much the best out of what he had. It could be argued that Dier could have started (fitness?), and in hindsight started Foyth on the right. But once we calmed down I think we did alright. I would have taken 0-0 or 0-1 looking at the team sheets before the game and seeing how their style stood up to ours.

I’m a Dier fan and I wouldn’t have picked him. He wasn’t poor on Saturday (not alone)

The only thing that’s flipped Poch decision on its head is that sissoko came on and was immense

Absolutely, and going by the last three months I would actually say that there's a place for him in the first team depending on situation/formation, regardless of injuries. Every team needs an unspectacular mopper-upper not afraid to get stuck in, and by GHod do we need one until and if Dier gets his head right again. He is no Vieira or Keane for sure, but playing like he is now with Winks or better beside him and Son-Dele-Eriksen in front, I think we could be looking at an easier summer than feared (given that we can keep Eriksen which has to be the highest priority).

Agree, but much of the problem was that we couldn't string two passes together, especially Wanyama couldn't find a white shirt in the Spurs shop, and while I will love his bullet against Pool until I die he hasn't done much more in his time with us than say Trippier to warrant a start. IMO, of course.

His passes were excellent tonight
Hw got wide passes quickly and accurately in a way we haven’t seen before
