Funny how people see a game ..

- We lost today based on two moments, one a brainfart by a young player giving away a penalty, two, a very odd decision to give a penalty to a FB when Llorente & Lucas were on pitch (strongly believe if we had put that penalty away, we would have gone on to win).
- Foyth, KWP, Skipp, Sterling all played and were not overwhelmed by a full strength PL team, we had at most, 3 first 11 players on the pitch.

Just too many injuries/absent players to make this a priority, the manager took the kind of decision he's paid to do, if we get top 4 and move on in CL, he's completely vindicated.

I think Palace made seven changes from their last league game, so they were about as full-strength as us.

Wow, that is crazy talk.

I don't think you realise how important the CL is.
Moving into the new stadium with CL guaranteed will give us a load more money, convince players to stay, increase wages, get us a better long term stadium sponsor, it is MASSIVE to get CL this year of all years.

A cup is just a nice day. Then we can't afford any more players and have to sell players, negative spiral ending in relegation to the 4th tier.

It’s massive but I wouldn’t put your hopes that all the extra income will go into quality squad additions.

Also the tv money has started to hit a playeau. This stadium is at least 5 years too late to enjoy the real benefit of that.

Do you think we will win the CL? As some think this will be our first trophy under Poch. To win this you need the history, luck but most of all a deep squad with genuine quality in case we have to face a Dortmund team minus Kane and Alli.
Dembele too willl be missing, sold for £9m(which is insignificant in the grand scheme of things)another error but that’s another for another thread.

We needed reinforcements in CM; we didn't get any...proof in the pudding and now we are seeing the results - and no i don't just mean today.
We are not in a position to say "we do not need an FA Cup", we're not at Liverpool or City's levels right now so we cannot have such a sniffy attitude; hell, winning the FA Cup would be easier than winning the CL....we have been beaten fairly easily by Crystal Palace, can you imagine what Watford will do to us, let alone Dortmund:eek:

Hold old... Liverpool did the same as us in the fa Cup and got knocked out too

And I would not agree at all that we were easily beaten. We were the creators of our own downfall in that game

It’s because of the TV money plateauing thet the ground revenue becomes so important

Too many clubs have banked on TV money with no additional revenue sources

Yes, saying "we do not need the FA Cup" is being sniffy...seeing as top 4 is actually not guaranteed should we prioritise league games not play the likes of Eriksen etc vs Dortmund in case they get injured/need a rest?

People would change their mind if we started winning trophies again. I guess it’s a defence mechanism that we haven’t won anything in the last 10 years for people to say “we don’t need to win trophies”. When we were in the Europa league and couldn’t get into the CL, posters claimed the CL was overrated and the Europa league wasn’t far off in terms of quality.

Some fans will back the club in almost any manner. Sanchez was a better player than Toby last season when Toby’s contract was going down the swanny, Davies was better than Rose when Rose went rogue. Therefore, Poch says it’s more important for the club to finish in the top 4 and winning trophies is overrated, fans will back Poch and trot out the same line.

Yes, my point re Liverpool is that they can say such words as "bigger fish to fry" as they are top of the league atm and can perhaps justify such a 'sniffy' attitude more than us - even though personally i think they could easily have sustained CL/FA Cup and league.

We were easily beaten. Once Palace were ahead apart from the penalty did you think we really looked like scoring? We were toothless and i'd fear better clubs than Palace will copy their methods used today.

I have no problem with Tripps taking the pen, he’s been the most accurate dead ball player at the club this season, in Kane’s absence it’s a logical choice.

You make us sound like posters on RAWK:D

Sorry to me easily beaten is when a team dominates you, not when your dominating them but can’t shoot for toffee

I think Liverpool took a big gamble on the FA Cup game and they are banking on sustaining their form which I would do too

That's why we will be fudged for the future..unless like you say the Stadium makes enough money!

But I am beginning to think the club is more interested in making ends meet rather than have a winning football Team because this season we had the players but the squad just lacked that little bit extra in depth.
Anyway we'll never be able to replace Eriksen,Deli, and Kane when they are gone in To-days transfer fees.
But the thing is, the future should have been now IMO, but sure we'll win Champions League and all will be forgotten how we have blown it and peace will break out forever amongst all countries of the World!
If only I was wrong...

That's a good point. Also you could argue we should have upgraded a few squad players 18 months ago - i.e. Foyth & Sanchez were good buys, but no midfield or striker equivalent.

However, you've got to test the players to learn that they are not up to scratch. So on the plus side at least we've given them chances.

Based on the figures we should be raking it in when the stadium is open though, so most likely DL is playing in safe. Why spend today when you can put off until you are richer tomorrow :)

Tbh we were sh*t for so long that I find it hard to complain.

Ok semantics; point being a) we haven't got a CM right now that we can enact a 'park-the-bus' plan B when our key goalscorers are missed and b) we are relatively easy to defend against. This was Crystal Palace after all; The likes of Watford and Leicester will be licking their lips watching that:(

But we won’t be playing those teams with this team. We will be missing Kane and Alli and that’s it

What help would parking the bus B when your 2 down?

However, if we get a huge stadium naming rights deal and still don’t spend I will change my opinion.
"The problem is those types of players cost 2-3x the amount these days."

Mate, frustrating day and last couple of seasons, but let's look at your statement

- Does any Spurs fan really believe this stadium will not make more than any other comparable stadium in the world? do you really doubt Levy when it comes to money?
- If Eriksen, Dele & Kane leave, we will pocket somewhere in the range of 400-500M, while they might not be replaced like for like, doesn't mean we will suddenly be bargain bin constricted.

It's foundational stuff and people are making risk/reward calculations during this period, some look like they will bite us in the ass, but it's short term vs. long term benefit.

We've lost 6 league games already up to now with those players...the last time we lost that many by this point we had the energetic but porous Bentaleb-Mason combo.....

In a cup game without the likes of Kane and Alli you'd want to park the bus and then nick a goal. That's certainly be good to have as an option to conserve energy. Our rivals all do it from time to time when necessary, especially when they have injuries. Fergie was a marvel at it in his latter years.

You don’t park the bus against a palace side that can’t score at home

You do when WE cannot score for toffee, or at least aren't very potent without the 3 big hitters. It's this ability to do as necessary that separates those who can win trophies and ourselves, sorry to say

Mind you we are in the top 12 clubs in Europe,so we have been under achieving!
The problem is we may not have the squad tomorrow so we may be just replacing what we have and that will cost as I pointed out.
Most football commentators on TV and radio when they were talking about how we can improve said we needed to strengthen the squad, that is when they are not talking 24/7 what United Liverpool Arsenal and Chelsea need to do to improve. I have to say its nearly all ways Liverpool and United they are bigging up to keep them constantly at the Top.
Anyway the debate goes on....It would be nice to think we can at least hold on to CL top 4 but we are on a slide, I hope can stop it..
