I agree. Chelsea were playing towards the top of their game, we didn't get out of second gear. Which is understandable, there is another leg to go and we have a more important game on Sunday.
Seemed to me we played a diamond, Sarri realised the space was out wide so concentrated on that width and we were pulled around quite a bit... but when they crossed it there was nobody in the box. Not sure if that was Poch double triple out-thinking Sarri or what. But it wasn't pretty.

Every time we hoofed it out towards Kane, Rudiger beat him to the ball. I thought Kane would be far better at either winning it or buying a foul to get us out.

They certainly used the flanks better today.

I was surprised by Son and Alli's positioning for much of the game. Son went wide, presumably to counter the threat down the flanks, and Alli was closest to Kane. With us sitting deep, it gave us less of an option on the break.

Kane didn't get a lot of protection from the ref today.

Phew. More than a few heart in mouth moments there. Definitely not at our best and I’d feel happier going into the 2nd leg with more than the single goal lead but, yet again, we did what was needed and managed to largely restrict them to speculative shots. Gazza looked confident when called upon but there was more playing in and around our own box than seemed necessary or wise.

Sissoko, Rose and Toby had good games. Harry too, considering every time he got near the ball he was wrapped in a wrestling hold.
Eriksen had a poor game as did Dele for the most part.

Michael Oliver was a disgrace.

We will need Dele and Eriksen on form for the 2nd leg. But nothing I saw in Cheatski tonight (that wasn’t of our own making) particularly scares me.

Dele was so strong tonight, late in the second when he dropped in and put some crunchers in he was great.

I may be wrong ..but if we just get 1 class player in..in this window..were so close...aren't we!..to a trophy...If we got a top class player from somewhere think of the push it would give us in the prem..
Mmmmm I have posted this before... Still never mind.
CoySpurs.........

He did pretty damn well pressuring Hazard. When I saw I thought that perhaps Dele's own creativity helped him to anticipate SOME of the things Hazard did.

Not a great performance, but good to get the win. Think we'll have to do better to keep ahead in the second leg. Perhaps Vertonghen and Dier will be back...

Phew! Such a relief to take a lead into the away leg after that rather listless performance by our attackers (with no Lucas option on the bench either) and feels like the kind of smash and grab that Chavski did to us so many times before we finally ended that hoodoo.

Despite being under the cosh for much of the match and an attendance of only 44,371 (restricted capacity of 51,000) I found the atmosphere at Wembley last night much better than in recent league games and mercifully no irksome selfies being taken during play.

Yeah I think Poch made the change sometime in the second half, I presumed to deal with the flanks issue.

GG seemed to be down when I got home last night but my views:

Gazzaniga was great and the weakness I thought he had on crosses wasn’t there.

The defence was excellent as they were under so much pressure

Sissoko was decent with winks but they did get overview run a lot for the first 60

VAR is comedy gold when your in the ground as you can see what happened but can’t see what their deciding on

How was a foul not given on sonny by Christiansen after the first 3 minutes. Looked clear and a red

Why was Kepa not sent off for at the very least dangerous play. Looked to me like teh ball had gone off the pitch before he flattened kane

How was a foul given against Lamela with 5 to go when alonso just crumbled

Chelsea hugged and puffed like we used to do but when Kante is your likeliest scorer you have a big issue

Hudson Oi really wasn’t all that and they should take the money
