Summer 2018 transfer thread

You have to laugh at the idea/understanding that when Poch said about being brave he meant us spending lots of money on big names. Those who keep banging on about that is what he meant must have some type of special insight.

Was he highly rated? Shame if young players feel they can't get games with us when we have a good reputation for giving youngsters games and a manager who believes in it. Could well end up in Germany, seems lots of young English players are heading there.

Honestly Id never heard of him before a month or so ago when there was talk of him not signing his contract.

We need to get good footballers coming to us, Shaqiri is a goodish football with premier league experience and would have been useful and fairly cheap.
Is any good? Time will tell. Hope you are right with your right with “fat bad apple”

Right, we need GOOD players, but Shakiri is only GOODISH, so why is he even mentioned?

Desperation levels are reaching new heights in here now. It's comical to read all the nonsense in here atm. Nothing but wild guessing and assumptions.
Chill out ffs! This is Tottenham Hotspur! We're damn good no matter who comes in or leaves!
It's mainly StephenH as usual, he threw his toys out the pram, then went after them and threw them across the garden, then threw them over the fence, then went out into traffic to throw them across the road... he makes AjaxDeSuperYids look balanced

You think it’s luck?

We have an amazing batch of players that IMO onk6 city have a better squad than

For anyone to beat city next season you will need a lot of things to go in your favour - that needs luck

But what we have done with the resources we have had is all about the effort being put in IMO

I’m all for buying players if their the right ones, but we have seen that is incredibly hard for new players to improve the top top sides

Look at city last year, their improvements came with their defence ultimately in that the6 brought in a new keeper who allowed them to play the way they had planned and improved their other options there with Walker and others

Their attacking system improved off the back of it as it all stems from the high line. So one player can make a difference but for us that player would arguably be out of our range money wise so we look to the squad to improve

And again when I look at our peers only pool appear to have brought in players who will make their squad better and their first 11 too just by signing a keeper who can catch.. but will tha5 be enough??. I don’t think so but we will see

United signings could be anything
Arsenal haven’t signed anyone I’d want (although Leno is very good and the uraguyan I like the look of too)
Chelsea have signed a pamper I’ve hardly seen play and will soon be losing some key players

So are we worse off than last season???

Luck is always necessary.
We will only know how we are when the games start!
We look to have been very inactive in the transfer market as I type. That I hope will change in the 14 or so days!
Our midfield is very bare especially when Dembele is meant to be leaving. (He is not injured by the way, that was a miss quote in the press, meant Sissoko)
We are not that far from the end of the transfer and the beginning of the new season with the World Cup contingents still on the beach and yet to kick a ball. We knew about the early window and the effect of the World Cup and yet Pochettino is moaning about it and already using these events as problems going forward. If you think this good then I’m surprise.

“But what we have done with the resources we have had is all about the effort being put in IMO” That is now history and we now need to step up and keep improving.

Sometimes doing nothing can be the best thing IMO

And I’m sure we’re being active but unless someone comes in and offers to buy a player we’re happy to sell we hav no squad gaps. We then look to our youth to fit in too and they have done well from what I’ve seen in the pre season games so why wouldn’t they in the league...

I’m also confident that some of our players will have grown off the back off a. Er6 good world club and you will also get natural improvement from younger players as they get older

I’m not concerned about midfield as we have plenty ther even if some are injured. Those being injured means we can’t sell them and the ones we have we will need to play ... and they are the ones who got us CL last season, and the one before and fought for the league before that

Body language

You can see it all

When he is smiling it’s secretly code for him fuming that we haven’t signed Jack Grealish and Zaha

I think Llorente can come good. We have quite a few players who could be like new signings - Lamela, Llorente, Moura. Not to mention Amos and Skipp etc.

We could add just one player - a midfielder and be okay. Or no one. I would be happier we didn't buy and develop the settled players we have, than waste money on a Sissoko type signing. Put that cash towards a big name player when they become available. The difficulty is attracting the likes of Pusic etc when elite teams are sniffing around too.

Shaqiri, Grealish and hopefully the rest that follow shortly in themselves are irrelevant.
We are 14 or so days away from kick off with many first team players rightly still on the World Cup beach. We also have problems right across or midfield with Dire being the only defensively minded first team player available. So ATM Dembele cannot be sold, I would have thought with what we know transfer wise?
It feels as the club is looking muddled and slow this close to the start of the season, undercooked?
We have to weight and see of course what finally transpires with transfers. But you can’t be happy with the this continuing lack of coherent preparation for the new season.

Have you seen our pre season games?
We look about as cohesive as any side currently and were missing 9 super star players
We’re also playing 4-3-3 currently (or a version of) and we have looke dbloody good against some decent opposition
I don’t think that any player not there will not be fit enough when the season starts as their all trainung whilst away to a plan set by the club
And we have some players that off the back of these games now look fitter and more match ready than last season to push on and be like new signings (moura, Lamela, Aurier, possibly Llorente) and the young lads have stepped up and shown ability.

This is just a little bit of light-hearted jibe from me, so don't take it the wrong way. But what I see from some of our ever-optimistic folks this window, above all... is the 'bargaining' part of grief. :p

We started out relatively united in our optimism for this window - then, some of us started wondering when we would sign anyone, and were told by others that the World Cup hadn't even started yet. We would, don't worry.
Then the World Cup ended, and those folks insisted that our pre-season had only just begun - we would sign someone, don't worry.
Then we started getting linked with players of....*dubious* quality, and we were told, this is Poch's plan, don't worry.
Now, as we're getting worryingly close to the deadline, we're told - Llorente and Lamela can be like new signings, and we never needed transfers anyway, don't worry.

I'd be willing to bet that, if the window closes without a single new player, those folks will be saying, 'this was the best window ever *because* we made no signings, don't worry.'

We saw the same thing - the *exact* same thing - with Arsenal throughout the late 2000's. And didn't we laugh whenever Wenger insisted that some random player returning from injury or showing a slight upturn in form would "be like a new signing"?

Yet, here we are, doing the exact same thing, which will likely have the exact same outcome. :p

For the sake of everyone, I hope Levy gets his hand out of his *rse and gets going on signing someone - it will save us all the trouble of this grieving process reaching that logical conclusion. :)

When Charlie Adam is questioning your fitness and work ethic, feck me, there has to be something there!!! :D

There's obviously a couple of gaps in the side. I always thought that we'd have to sell to buy this summer. It appears that there haven't been any firm offers for Rose, Alderweireld or Dembele. Without creating space in the squad and raising funds, signing players is difficult. That is before we get to the usual issues we face improving the first team on our budget. I'm always relaxed about the window because very little gets out these days and life is too short.

Cash is king! Bloody annoying saying but so true.
Seeing the Liverpool recruitment the season has underlined our situation and has left us feeling quite like a poor relative even though most of us are loathed to admit it!

They sold one of their top players to fund the purchases.
You keep moaning about our spend, I bet you would moan if sold Harry or Eriksson to fund our purchases.
Seems to me you just like to moan.
