Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Well I'm appreciative of our time under Redknapp. Great football, top 4 finishes for the first time in the PL, CL football, Inter at home, winning at Arse, the rebirth of Bale, he was part of our joining the elite again and challenging. Yes he was a rent a gob, blabbermouth, always looking for attention, but for all that it was a very enjoyable and an exciting ride. So yes for my sins I guess I'm a member of the Cult of Arry:)
I don’t get why so many Spurs fans hate on him, he was the first guy to get us CL and we played some lovely lovely football and showed that ultimately football is a simple game....

On another note I’m not sure about that jacket Poch was wearing to that book signing and he looks to of put on a bit of timber....

Why did he only get Saha and Nelsen? Because the clown shoe basically said he was off to the England job in the summer and we did not have the budget to spend big on a player the next manager might not want. We were a solid - solid!- third. 12 points up. When he hitched his skirt it derailed us. 400%. The Cult of ‘Arry continue to baffle me. This is a man who joked that he couldn’t read properly and that his dog helped him?!

Sorry, but his name should not even be in the same post code as Poch’s...

Nice theory but Capello left England, out of the blue, after the window had closed and I don’t recall much talk of Harry getting the England job until Capello went. Both players signed before Capello resigned. We tanked that year because Levy tried doing things on the cheap. Looks like you’re revising history to suit a narrative.

Harry took over a mess and got us into the top 4. You could argue that he was in the right place at the right time but I’ll always fondly remember his time at Spurs and I believe he did a lot for the development of players like Modric and Bale.

We can dispute whether they would have pushed on to that extent anyway but you can’t deny that results drastically improved under Harry and the style of football was very entertaining.

I get people saying that he had little or no long term vision but he was working in a profession where you get 2-3 years max on average and the pressure is always there for short term results. In that context, I don’t blame any manager for looking at things with a short term focus.

Im sorry but the jan transfer window as an excuse for him doesn't wash with me - big signings to maintain our form mid season were not a requirement - better signings may have pushed us on, of course that can always be said but if you need big transfers half way through the season to see you over the line then frankly you aren't as good as you're cracked up to be.

It’s a fair point. Harry touting himself for the England job certainly distracted us that season. But he did finish fourth and but for the luckiest Champions League win in history, we’d have qualified for the following seasons competition.

Harry certainly wasn’t blameless but it’s wrong to say his flirtation with England was the reason Levy didn’t spend in the transfer window.

Harry was a walking cliche and made a mess his tenure in the end. History and fandom will do him little favours.

His problem is that apart from Spurs ( thanks to Levy) he has left the majority of his clubs with massive financial problems. He is a fraud who was always available to his mates in the media ( good old "rent a quote") and that is why he was always kissed arsed by them.

It's a while back now so the timeline of events isn't as fresh in my memory - if there was no England managers stuff before the window closed and no suggestion he'd be leaving in the summer at that point then you're probably right regarding that.

Whilst 4th and a CL run out would have ordinarily been a good return the damage was already done and he made his own bed ultimately - a bit of humility at the end of the season and he may have got another contract but he seemed to think he was in a position of power the way he went about things once the England job went to Hodgson - should have been grovelling for his job not forcing Levys hand.

If i was a conspiracy nut id look at the derailment of us that season as done by design - i don't think the FA had any intention of appointing Redknapp and really should have done something to halt the media campaign to get him the job as it was so obviously damaging a clubs season (and ultimately costing us millions in CL revenue) he obviously thought he was in with a shot so must have had reason to believe that was the case - all it would have taken was a quiet word in his ear from some one in a position of power and the whole thing would have been avoided.

He used to drive me mad on TV all the time

Fair play, cannot argue that we had some great nights under him but I always felt he was lucky to have Bale, Modric and King in there ticking pretty.

He managed Ledley brilliantly, really caring about that horrible knee condition, not over training him, giving him plenty of time off between games. Id love to hear what Ledley thinks of Redknapp the man

Redknapp had a crippled King, Modric grew after being trusted to play in centre midfield when everyone was saying he was too small and sleight for that position in the PL

Bale flying down the wing. .....wow what a period that was. Another player who needed an arm round the shoulder after a rough period of injuries and loss of form/confidence.

I just think of what could have been back then if we had a world class striker who guaranteed 30 goals a season. It's all we were missing. We and Poch are so lucky to have Harry Kane

Capello resigned on 8 Feb and Hodgson was appointed on 1 May.

You are spot on about the FA never considering " rent a quote", they got burnt once before by the Press hype when they ended up appointing KK as England manager ( and we all know how that turned out). One of the reasons that Redknapp was even suggested as being the next England manager was his mates in the press who always knew " rent a quote" would fill their papers for them.

The FA never considered him as they ALL thought they could not/would not have another KK episode who was appointed after the media decided he was the man they needed and it was carried along by the hype.

We had Adebayor on top of his game tbf and signed the summer previous - surely there's no realistic call to have signed another first choice striker alongside him or in the jan window?

He was on loan for a year at the time and everyone knew Adebayor is not someone to rely on long term.

But we're talking about a january window here and the effect it had on the remainder of that season? he was playing well and the team was producing fantastic football with him in it, don't think it's a valid critisim that a lack of a new starting CF to replace the one brought in in the previous window held us back
