Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Always find it funny people hanging onto every little thing a manager says. News flash, every human being is a walking contradiction. There would be thousands of times in my life what I've said I have contradicted myself, the difference is I don't have millions following and recording my every word on social media.

People were complaining he refused to budge from Ange ball. He played more pragmatically when games required in the cup. We were hamstrung with injuries and setup in a way which made sense to win the game. We won said game and given us one of the best few days in memory. We all know the league season was a poor one, yet I remember plenty of really good seasons in the league where we failed to win anything and it didn't give me this feeling of elation. Just fudging enjoy it.....

You talk as if fans can't enjoy it whilst discussing it and perhaps not even agreeing with some of it. You surely know that is an even bigger contradiction right?

Things can change though, right? I think that’s one of Ange’s biggest positives. It’s the reason he’s gone from a no-name coach in Australia, only famous for an interview gone wrong to Asian Cup, J.League, SPL and Europa League winner. He’s adapted in every single job.

For all his dogmatic views, before you know it you’re looking back on how he’s changed without you even realising it. Remember the furore about set pieces?

Tommy I hope youre right mate I really do. Would you agree that next season is make or break for him though?

What would your idea of a successful season be for next season?

Where did I say you can't discuss it? I'm discussing it :D Poster wants to call out Ange for playing a different way to his belief, yet same posters complain Ange doesn't have a plan B blah blah I'm far from a happy clapper type, but it's so evident (and actually sad to see) that a section of people can only be happy if they've got something to try and whinge about....

I think there is often a conflation of discussions and analysing with whinging where as some do at time whinge, I do, guilty, but people also throw their toys about when it comes to some discussions on a discussion board, yeh I dared say that again haha

Absolutely, the first 3 months are make or break. We really need to win 6 or 7 of the first 10 or he’ll be under pressure again.

For me, the first aim would be winning the League Cup. If we do that in February, then finishing top 10 would do. Fail to win that, and it’ll be all in on the FA Cup but we’d probably need to finish top 5 or 6 as a bit of a ‘backup’.

Who's complained he's played a different way to his beliefs? If you're referring to me, I said its ironic that we have won it in a way that is opposite to what he believes brings success.

I go back to what I've said previously, certain posters on this forum don't like it when people disagree with them and then start labelling them as being miserable. If you're going to engage in a discussion, be prepared for people disagreeing with you.

Yeah I think I'd agree with that but I'd also like to see progress in our playing style (which ever direction he decides to take us in) as it has been pretty awful this season.

You can take any quote at a particular time from anyone and use it against them some other time. Every manager and player that has come into THFC for the past 10+ years have been confronted with the “Trophy” question. Ange and his group have answered that in the best possible way.

I havent had a debate with you for you to disagree with me:D You do you, I'm having far too much fun enjoying everything surrounding the club right now to get engaged into this kind of thing....

It's a bit different when a manager is setting out his ethos though isn't it? Telling everyone what he is about and what his principals are - that's what he's asking people to buy in to, you need to give those sorts of words more respect than others.

I’m not sure what your point is. Should he have declined the opportunity to win the Europa? Or should he apologise because the playing style didn’t align with his principles?

Of course and that goes without saying, but there is absolutely no denying we put to bed a large monkey off our back and extinguished a HUGE level of rhetoric around this club. BE absolutely idiotic to create a new fire and aid gallons of fuel to it and give the footballing world, not just fans another reason to ridicule us. It also send a ridiculous cultural message to the fans the inner workings of the club and to the future IMO.

Just my view
More than just the fans, the players - they are clearly close to the manager, Bissouma and others have described him as a father figure. This experience will only have added to that bond. To sack him after achieving this? That's not going to go down well.

If this doesn't all help in improving our league form in the first couple of months next season then fine, it's time to say thanks for the memories. But to not give Ange the opportunity to prove himself at the start of next season I think would be wrong on a few levels....

So our league form continues and we are hovering above the bottom 3 after a quarter of the season and we sack him. That close bond you speak of means the players are devastated mid season and our form spirals further with an inexperienced interim coaching set up unable to arrest it while we are playing CL and PL And we are in the bottom 3 by January and in an absolute doom spiral. How unrealistic is that scenario and is that a risk we can afford to take?

My point was in relation to your post dismissing the relevance of direct quotes from the manager as though they aren't important or hold any meaning

After the first couple of months of the season you haven't even played ten league games. Both Ramos and Nuno got sacked around this time and we had good seasons those years. Yes it is a risk we can afford to take, and if the answer is meant to be Silva/Frank I'd rather take that risk for now....

Ok I think you misunderstood my point (possibly obscure) which was that inevitably the first thing every Spurs manager is asked is about how important it is that we win a trophy. Ange deflected that by focusing his answer on how he wanted us to play. I didn’t say his response wasn’t relevant.

Are those scenes because of the manager or despite the manager?
TBF I think the reactions at the game in the parade and to his speech speak for themselves.

I didn't think he would win it, I was wrong, I dno't think he is long term manager........I might be wrong again, but lets not take away moments that are clear as day mate.

I hate people telling people how to be fans so I apologise in advance for this mate, but its more a wish for you........enjoy it mate, enjoy the fact we won a major trophy, its what this is all about, there are 90+ professional teams in this country and we won a major Cup above not only all them but our peers across Europe......light a cigar and have a Russ Abbott moment...........
