Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

My 3 nephews who have never been that bothered about going were engrossed in the game on Weds night, went to and loved the trophy parade yesterday and are now trying to persuade me to buy them season tickets for next season.

Well if they enjoyed Wednesday and the last 2 seasons are anything to go by then they'll certainly enjoy next season.

Quite telling that they haven't been bothered about going upto now though

You can't take the boss from these lads, and what kind of signal would it send?

It might send the signal that losing at home is unacceptable. Ange's "rebirth" could be the start of something good, but only if he is 100% committed to winning league games as well as cup games. I guess we have to cross our fingers.....

Yeah, as I said, I’m not exactly confident it will go well, but we simply cannot sack him after that. I was convinced he was going after all of those dreadful results, but it’s a clean slate again now for me. Let’s build on this and see where we go. Hopefully with some tactical adjustments along with it. If our league form is as poor as it has been now come say November, let’s re-assess then.

Because it just constantly brings me down. The grind of defeats this season and the arguing with other fans, the atmosphere around the club - its poison. Has been for a while but its been next level this season. I'd already got to the point where I almost didn't care about the final, then I did and I did feel different but all this "mic drop" and "Ange has flicked 2 fingers up to you all" and he's now the messiah. Actually feel like I wish we hadn't won the sodding trophy. Didn't go to or watch the parade. Clips I've seen make me glad I didn't. And when you start to feel as twisted as that, its time to walk. Ive got better things to do with my life than be constantly abused and depressed by THFC and THFC fans.
You didn't enjoy seeing over 200k Spurs fans having fun and being overjoyed at winning a trophy? Weird. If you can't find joy in that then maybe you would be better off stepping away. Can't imagine myself ever not taking great enjoyment at seeing a parade like yesterday.

Because Ange said with all good tv series, season 3 is better than season 2. Certainly feels like we've been watching a comedy at times over the last 2 seasons.

lol - did he actually say that? I missed it.

I'm becoming increasingly intolerant to his silly narratives. When we finish 10th he can say that season 3 was better. He also said that people need to look at the bigger picture and it's common to have one bad season over a long period. I thought that one was a bit premature as he was in season 2.

I feel exactly the same way about golf.
Been playing since I was a kid, love the game, played 3-4-5 times a week.
It was my escape.
Now I can't get on my course because it's booked solid 14 hours a day, the standard of golf and behaviour is shocking, the equipment costs are horrendous, my game and enjoyment is in the toilet.
Seriously considering giving it up altogether because it's affecting my life, I don't want to but maybe it's for the best.
But I've also come to realise that other things in my life are impacting on me and limiting my scope to enjoy not just golf but many of the good things in my life.
Sometimes taking a break from it makes you realise how much you love something and how much miss it.

I feel a thread coming on about the reliability of that quote becauses Sons of Anarchy season 3 in Ireland was a sh1thouse

Yeh a break is as good as a rest and all that. Mental health is key, if Spurs is impacting that I would take a break or look for the wins, for me this forum is a win because its in the most part healthy debate and good folk, twitters not and I can see that impacts peoples mental health, even mine but I manage it better now than say a year ago.

I think there are two camps or maybe three with the third slightly a merge of both. People who struggle with their mental health and take things badly, which happens to everyone to an extent, those that never seem to wanna be happy (I have seen alot of that on twitter ironically) and those that let either one drive the other.

Sometimes its good to walk away to get clarity. The Summer is the best break that can happen for some I think

I'm actually not into clean slates. For me, this "project" started about 2 years before Ange joined the club. We invested heavily in players that have become the mainstays of Ange's team. At the same time we have refreshed the entire leadership team and done major overhauls on scouting, medical team etc.

Ange then came along last season and took the manager baton for 2 seasons. He has perhaps the most important role in the long term project and we need to make sure he is the right man for next season. I'd be quite proud of my club if they released him stating that their expectations are higher than what he achieved this season. Making a EL win just table stakes would be a massive statement of intent from the board. I'm actually leaning on the other side at the moment for the reasons you say. Whilst Ange is quite arrogant, he has taken some hard knocks in the PL and had to learn. He's not learnt quickly enough in my opinion but he is at least learning. Whilst his pride would never admit it, he's the one that is having to change his approach and become a better manager. Change is slow with him, but there is a chance he can take the positive mindshare he has with the players and find his next plateau point. I am torn between the 2 choices though.

I always thought season 2 would be about top 6 finish, whilst season 3 would be about a genuine top 4 campaign. I'm less convinced on that one but we've at least got the CL campaign.

I did.

Mum died from dementia last September and outside of the natural caring role you take I threw myself into music in the last couple of years. I now play in multiple bands. Then the annual golf renewal came up and despite barely playing for 2-3 years I renewed again. For me, the golf club was more than just a round of golf. It was the culture that goes with it, not to mention the gym and the sauna/steam benefits. I had moved from 7 day to 5 day membership and now I'm going to be at the club as much as possible in the next 12 months. I want to play off my handicap of 14 again and perhaps even go beyond.

Yeah he said it at the parade. He also said this when he first joined:

"But it’s not a desperation around just winning something, because I just don’t think that gets you a sustainable opportunity to be successful. The foundation is just to play the game a certain way, which I believe brings success but also excites the punters."

Not a desperation to win things but then gave up on the league in order to win something. Maybe his idea of sustainable is 21 league defeats in a season, who knows. Ironically we won it playing the complete opposite of what he believes in.

Things can change though, right? I think that’s one of Ange’s biggest positives. It’s the reason he’s gone from a no-name coach in Australia, only famous for an interview gone wrong to Asian Cup, J.League, SPL and Europa League winner. He’s adapted in every single job.

For all his dogmatic views, before you know it you’re looking back on how he’s changed without you even realising it. Remember the furore about set pieces?

Not in a negative way, but it's all quite intriguing. He has sort of backed himself into a corner with his contradictions. He now has to find version 3 of his football for next season with all the good bits from both his original AngeBall and his EL winning AngeWall. We don't need any of the AngeDull though. I definitely don't want any more of the AngeBull either.

Always find it funny people hanging onto every little thing a manager says. News flash, every human being is a walking contradiction. There would be thousands of times in my life what I've said I have contradicted myself, the difference is I don't have millions following and recording my every word on social media.

People were complaining he refused to budge from Ange ball. He played more pragmatically when games required in the cup. We were hamstrung with injuries and setup in a way which made sense to win the game. We won said game and given us one of the best few days in memory. We all know the league season was a poor one, yet I remember plenty of really good seasons in the league where we failed to win anything and it didn't give me this feeling of elation. Just fudging enjoy it.....

Although I think Ange is not the man long term, as I said the other day, having spent 17 years of hammering a monkey off our backs and universal ridicule, that now no longer exists with the win in the week. Sacking the person who did that just opens up another new round of ridicule for us to carry for the next GHod knows how many years. "17 years without a trophy and Spurs think they are bigger than............"

I don't think Ange is the man but he has earnt the right to a stay of execution though. Beyond that I am ok with what the club decides.

As for Palace, I think they are a different beast, I expect their team to be torn up and them actually get worse based on the resources afforded to them.

We are always going to be ridiculed by other fans. We will always ridicule other clubs. It's football.

I just don’t see how you get rid of the manager responsible for these scenes.

If you manage to turn even this into a negative, I genuinely don’t think the problem is Ange Postecoglou.
Quite easily if you put the league form into consideration and how easy we've been to beat in the PL for a prolonged period of time.

The club will take everything into consideration when making the call, including us being 17th in the league.

Either way, will back the club with the call

Of course and that goes without saying, but there is absolutely no denying we put to bed a large monkey off our back and extinguished a HUGE level of rhetoric around this club. BE absolutely idiotic to create a new fire and aid gallons of fuel to it and give the footballing world, not just fans another reason to ridicule us. It also send a ridiculous cultural message to the fans the inner workings of the club and to the future IMO.

Just my view
