Vincent Janssen

But he has 7 goals and 2 assists this season, playing for a team that have been utter dogsh1t. I don't think he's an amazing player, but he's shown more at this level than Janssen has. Janssen was rubbish for us, that's why Poch bombed him out.
I have to say that I saw nothing from Janssen to suggest anything other than a mediocre striker who was totally out of his depth at Spurs.

To me, Janssen's problem was being the wrong type of striker. I hope he'll find a suitable club and get back on course to a successful career but it doesn't seem that it'll be with us.

We need someone who can either play alongside Kane or offer something totally different as a lone striker, this leads inevitably to the one thing Kane lacks, which is genuine pace. There was a spell when both were paying together up top and it was just awful.

Saying Mitrovic is a championship player or that an overseas loan was a final nail is complete gonads in my opinion, just the wrong face at the wrong time. Hoping a good + permanent solution will be found in January.

Anyone know whether he's fit or still injured?

He's better than Mitrovic from everything I've seen.

Mitrovic is an excellent championship level player, nothing more. Been so disappointing every time I've seen him this season.

Janssen has more in his locker. More potential.

Are you sure about that because although he may have only scored only 7 league goals this season I think in a better team he would score more goals, for instance he has 23 goals in 46 international matches for Serbia.

He is a decent player and still young
Kind of player that defenders hate to play against even in the prem

The thing I’ve never understood about Janssen compared to other players that I’ve thought might not be quite good enough or fit our system is that he was completely jettisoned after just one season. Even within that season he only started 7 league games and considering he’d been brought in as Kane’s deputy he wasn’t trusted to start a run of games when he was injured.

On the pitch he always put in a big effort so I wonder if his compete exclusion (he’s been no worse than Llorente for us imo) has been down to crossing Poch behind the scenes, either with his effort in training, challenging his omission or refusing to move and wanting to fight for his place thus blocking an oncoming transfer.

Obviously it’s too late for him now but I would have been interested to see how he would have got on in a Prem loan with a full season and a run of games to find his feet but his best bet now would to go back to Holland and try and rebuild his career. As far as the club is concerned I think we now know that the solution is to have a pacey alternative to Kane who will also get regular games as an AM
to stay sharp for the very few games they will get to play as a CF.

I was at Swansea away when he came on and changed the game
Whatever it is for him Poch clearly doesn’t like it

If you are good enough, you can fall out with Poch but get a chance at redemption: see Rose, Toby. If you have no credit in the bank, then I guess you better behave. Janssen just didn't perform, he's in the same boat as Stambouli and the French wingers we signed on the cheap. Not all transfers are gonna work I suppose.

I don't know if we should write him off just yet. Sure, he hasn't gotten any game time because of injury, but after the Sissoko turnaround I'd be very wary of making definitive judgments about any player. He has the skills, it's just a matter of working hard and getting the opportunities. Yes he was brick in his first season, but which player hasn't been brick in his first season in the Poch regime.

I think maybe the club thought that they were buying another potential Kane when they signed Janssen. And I have to confess that I never thought Kane would be the player that he is today based on his loan spells. Especially due to his lack of pace. But Kane, although not very quick, is reasonably quick, which combined with his strength compensates for lack of pace. Plus he has a special knack for scoring goals from outside and around the edge of the area by a kind of cross between shooting and passing technique (very hard passing/very targeted shooting).

So maybe Janssen could yet become a striker that could do well in the Premiership. I just don't think he will get sufficient game time with us, because of his too-similar-to-Kane-but-not-as-good qualities.

Final nail in his coffin was an overseas loan, mistake on every level.

Even a championship loan would have been a better option.

"Overseas" isnt a problem as such. But "Turkey" is.

Send him to a league with a decent level, or more akin to the Premiership and give him a chance to play well? All good imo.

Send him to a tinkle poor backwater to rot? Whats the point?

Its the only thing that makes real sense to me, Poch didnt like the shade of his aura and let him go.

Something in the way Janssen performed outside of games just wasnt for Poch.

As far as the club is concerned I think its clear Son is now Kanes deputy, and Moura covers Son quite nicely so we arent left short.

There was lots of talk on here that he had an attitude problem in Holland so maybe he carried that here as well. I always thought he looked quite promising and could be a rotation option if he's fit to get some minutes or provide some fresh legs, he seemed to have good energy and is more Kane like than Llorente.
