Transfer Rumour Thread

Whatever I do on deadline day I will just be glad when its all over, quite frankly my gruds are fed up of me touching cloth...papping myself wondering whether we actually WILL sign another CF as back up for Kane.

But yeah those lovely presenters at SSN must have double make up sessions on deadline day as they seem to look extra woof...

you never know, Jezza Peace may have had his personality altered by aliens before deadline day...Saido may be able to smile for the first time in a year as he rocks up at WHL alongside Dembele mk2.

What's this Eminike chap like that the Canning Town Bingo and Social club seem to be bringing in on loan from Fenerbahce?

Nigerian International. Was on fire in 2013. Can be hit and miss. Skilful, strong and fast but his striking technique needs help. I think he will have a good time in the EPL if they feed him.

I think that it's extremely unlikely that we will sign a striker, with the exception of Dembele who is more of a player for the future.

We have known since August 31st that we only have Kane as an out and out striker. The club had three months to prepare a transfer, and to agree a transfer, in principle, before the start of January. And yet..nothing. We've since had almost a month and yes..nothing. Why expect that to change almost overnight? I think that Levy & Pochettino decided in August that we only need Kane, and so we've not pursued any alternatives.

I'd suggest we don't pay the wages of staff dedicated to player recruitment to sit around not signing players. It seems like Dembele is a real story and I'd expect another Son-type transfer, i.e. predicted by nobody but a significant purchase.

I'd suggest that we don't have casual employment at our club, only hiring staff to agree transfers in January & the summer. We have a dedicated scouting team and that includes staff who would help to prepare a transfer bid, so no reason why the preparation work can't take place outside of the transfer window. A deal in principle, then finalised when the window opens. I think Dembele will happen, as I've mentioned above, but, I doubt any other strikers will join. And, if they do, it would lead me to questioning why we hadn't concluded a transfer earlier in the window, given the new signing the opportunity to bed in and to socialise/train with the squad in Barcelona.

Not in January

And what position? Dembele is the final missing piece

an experienced striker on loan for 6 months wouldn't be the worst idea in the world but there wouldn't be room for him and Dembele on the bench so i think its Dembele and done.

Dembele is not the missing piece. He is a player with the potential (according to people on here) to be a good striker in a year or 2 but the missing piece is a real world class player to take us to the next level. I'm not suggesting we should go out and buy one but we are no where near the finished article .

If we end up winning the league this year, would you make the same argument?

In the first half of your post you have described our business model, apart from the fact that Poch has a good record of incorporating and making effective use of players quicker than that. This business model has served us well, got us to where we are and most importantly, favoured by our manager, why abandon it now?

I don't really understand the point you are trying to make in the second half of your post. You start talking about world class players and then say that you are not suggesting that we sign one.

I assume he's saying that the missing piece (to make this team/squad complete?) is not MD but a world class player - he's not suggesting we should (or can) go out and buy a WC player just that Gutter Boys definition of what our missing piece is, is wrong

And I'd agree the missing piece to complete the team is not a young forward cover for Kane

I cannot see Poch going out and signing a ready made forward. All of the players that we have been seriously linked with are ones for the future. Personally, I am agnostic about which of Sandro, Dembele and Berahino (or AN Other) we get. From what I have seen of each of them they are decent but have their drawbacks too. Besides, I don't see many top class players moving to any clubs this window, so maybe completing the jigsaw this window is an unrealistic ambition

Is the guts of what is being said I think - Dembele would be a good signing, but it won't complete us

I don't think that any of the players that we are being linked with will complete us and that Poch is unlikely to sign a ready made player anyway. Is a back up striker ever likely to be the missing piece in the jigsaw anyway?

Dembele is the final piece = we are the finished article? Not for me...

The way we get world class players is by developing them. A huge part of development is squad composition.

You don't expect us to sign anyone in the summer then?

Assuming we sign MD this window

I would expect us to continue to improve wherever and whenever we realistically can.

But signing Dembele (or another young striker) would give us either competition or cover for all positions in the team. Cover for the players that are so good we're unlikely to realistically get competition for them, elsewhere competition.

As we talked about in the Pochettino thread from this point in players leaving will be a lot more likely to be well liked and be better fits in our team than the players that have left so far. "The final piece" right now brings us to where a new player in probably means selling someone that's a good part of the squad. Not to say that's not going to happen, but much more of a balanced squad being improved by replacing one player with another rather than looking for pieces to fit into holes in the squad.

(Possible exception for me after a striker being Vorm as our backup goalie).

Dembele is the final piece = will complete us? Not for me...

For us to ever get anywhere near a "complete us" stage will require several of our now very young and talented players to keep developing over the couple of years coming up. But a player like Dembele could be the final piece of the puzzle in terms of the transformation of the squad from where we barely had 3-4 first choice players fans were happy with to a truly balanced and functional squad.

There's gonna be a lot of meltdowns next week. Pretty much every club went into this window needing at least one quality striker, a CB and a midfielder to really kick on (according to their fans anyway).
