Transfer Rumour Thread

Llorente was flying under the radar in a top 8 Spanish club for around 4 seasons already and only became known to the masses and fanboys this season during his EL exposure and most imortantly - his Man Utd performances seen by millions. He's always been a very good striker.

Cavani's mention is based on the assumption they fail to make 3rd and subsequent CL qualification

Top managers would have noticed him years ago. Its irrelevant that he is "well known" by the fan boys.

this isnt entirely true, exposure applies to professionals too. infact..managers are less likely to have the time to have a look at different players than fans

plus there is the testing arena that these players play in, the scenario / or the big stage players etc. all these things contribute to a players dimensions.....and being marketed and exposed contirbutes a GREAT deal to how much you are vauled or wanted..

managers even make catastrophic errors based on factors like that

Yes, but now his stock has nearly doubled so Bilbao might consider cashing in bearing in mind they're currently building a new stadium. My point was - he was performing well for 3-4 years already and only now are the G14 linked in flimflam blog articles

As I said - unless we pull of a miracle before Spain's first group stage game at which he's 99% guaranteed to lead their attack - forget about it

Sorry, just to say that if a player has signed for Hoffenheim, then we didn't "miss out" on him. A player at that level would not sign for a small, mid-table German team if a Top 4 EPL team wanted him. Which means clearly we didn't want him.

Sorry to be pedantic, but language matters and to say we "missed out" suggests some shortcoming on the part of Spurs in transfer dealings that clearly isn't applicable here.

It's funny......Gooner mates are now saying if we get Vertonghen it's because they don't want him!! Lol!

Emmanuel Adebayor - unlikely considering his wage demands but worth a punt

Dimitar Berbatov - SAF has indicated if his price is met they'd consider offers

Fernando Llorente - before 8 June, possibly the most difficult of all

Edinson Cavani - if Napoli SCC fail to make 3rd in Serie A

We do not have the remotest hope of getting Llorente or Cavani. If we focus on them we'll end up with nothing. Both will want bigger wages than we can pay and there are too many clubs who could offer far more

I'm:

2 x #9s (Ade and a more goalscoring back-up/competition)

A wide right forward who can play RW or as a 3rd choice #9

A quick, cultured, left-sided CB (Vertonghen seems to fit the bill nicely)

A GK (less of a priority this window, but needs addressing)

This looks right apart from the wide right forward doesnt need to be that specific. It needs to be someone who can rotate with Lennon and Bale so that 2 of those 3 always play and we dont knacker them out. If that player can also filll in up front then great.

The ideal player for this is Hoillet, and signing him would also leave cash free to be used elsewhere

I watched Hoillet closely the other night. Not overly impressed. A few sparks was all.

You make it sound like they're earning 150k/week at the moment - We are talking about Athletic Bilbao and Napoli SCC here - both pay lower average wages than we do. Our average wage is double that of Athletic and more than double Napoli's

There are only so many clubs who can offer them better terms and need them at the same time . I don't see either of them going to some money-laundering project to become a squad player as part of a semi-idiotic rotation.

I rather see us land (1) one quality signing who actually improves our first 11 than 3-4 inferior overhyped MotD ageing avergae trumpers who would cost more in wages than one top player

What they are earning at the moment is almost irrelevant. The key is what we can offer and what others are prepared to offer. ManC, ManU, Chelsea, Real, barca, Malaga, PSG, Roma are either rich or have just won the lottery. Then there's the next tier who are closer to us: Inter, Milan, bayern, Arse, Liverpool and a couple other Germans....they're closer financially but have less financial discipline

Agree that we're better of signing top quality rather than squad players though

Still only 21 so will have poor games. Think he's very good for his age - for example, he's only a year older than Andros Townsend and younger than Jake livermore

Bayern Munich is one of the richest clubs in the world and has the 6th highest wage turn-over after the Spanish giants Chelsea, AC Milan and bricky - just a side note

Liverpool don't need either of them nor can they offer CL.

Arse couldn't afford their transfer fees and made their 'major' striker signing already.

Utd have 4 quality strikers, another experienced back-up one and 2 on loan = 7. They need midfielders desperately if anything.

bricky have 4 quality strikers - could never guarantee either of them regular football

Chelsea is a possibility granted but they surely couldn't sign both!

Roma are nowhere near CL at the moment.

Other Germans teams - not a chance they'd swap sunny Spain for the Bundesliga at their peak. Has never happened before and for a good reason - it would be a parallel move at best. The PL is a step up, no matter what.

PSG compete in League 1 - see German comment further up. They are largerly restricted to ageing 'greats' looking for a retirement home and a good meal.

It is most definitely not impossible, imv - we are not exactly Wigan, ffs

I saw a video on YouTube ( regular program Life's a Pitch) and on there the journo John Cross said we were trying for him, but the arse had been working to land him for a long time. They were quite far along in the process and were very likely to get him. He doubted we'd get him and I suspect Vertonghen's recent comments about us were just an attempt to drive his price/wages up.
