Tosin & Mudryk deals with Chelsea

Genuine question. Does pace hold up 2 years out of the game?

What are the other examples of players having extended time out and returning to their prior level. Rio Ferdinand? I’m sure I’m missing a few.

Very interested to read about how he’s stayed in shape and maintained his ability. He won’t lose the talent, but just how long is it going to take to get up to speed when Tonali still isn’t fit despite playing up until the end of last season and having an entire pre season with us?

Was this what you read?
If he's been consistently working through the last couple of years then that speaks well to his resilience.

so f**king help me (perhaps it's my conditioning!) I am actually somewhat intrigued and excited to see if Mudryk turns out to be a surprise success or a total 100% disaster!!!!!
I would be surprised if he doesnt turn out a better loan than Werner and RKM were.
Thats a very low bar though.

I hope there is some kind of option on Mudryk, if he turns out to be a success then we will have literally done the hard graft for fudging Chelsea in getting him ready to either play for them next season or sell at a higher price.
True, but if he is a success we would have finished higher than 17th at least?

I am staggered at our transfers this year. On one hand I was filled with optimism for the season, even though I thought we had overpaid massively for our incomings and got underpaid massively for our outgoings. I am probably the most pessimistic Spurs fan you could meet, and it has not changed after our first 2 games. Btw I have just seen that Liverpool have turned down an £80 million bid from City for Gakpo. Anyway what would you see as a good season for us right now? Avoiding relegation by a whisker again? Finishing 10th in the table, or does anyone really think we will be challenging for an european place?
Look at Villa last year, they lost their first 4 games and got into the Champions league. I've got to say if we do sign Toisin and Mudryk I will not be getting too excited, but my boys think we are going to come good and zoom up the table!
Wish I could be as optimistic as that
Yes we"vev overpaid for some. Probably Tonali and Savio. But i think Fernandes at 85 mill in years to come will look like a good deal. Same with Marmoush at 65 mill. Van Hecke was 52 mill? Only reason that seemed high was the 1 year left on his contract.
As we ve seen from other clubs signings this off season, the market has gone skywards.

My issue here is we’re going in to the season with Tosin, Murdyk & Richarlison all in the squad but if we had Phillips, Moore, Lankshear worst case there is no drop off and you hace 3 homegrown players improving and learning what De Zerbi wants.

It's quite clear that one thing has been prioritised above pretty much everything else: Premier League experience.

I genuinely believe Mikey Moore's devlopment is vital, and this loan is superior to anything we could give him right now. Philips has not been good enough for several managers, why would he suddenly be an option for us? Lankshear wanted regular football, again the ideal would've been to bolt in a firm buy-back clause, but apparently he didn't want that. We do have a matching clause plus a sell-on percentage. I personally think he will crush the championship and then it will be a case of whether he is a Kane in the making or a Delap. We simply don't know. FWIW I really like him.

Dunjuma, Pienaar. We seem to do a speciality in deadline day crap wingers

At least this is a 4th choice...let's see if there's a surprise to come. Something isn't adding up in the Gakpo-Ndiaye merry go round for me. I think Gakpo's camp will push hard again (all speculation of course, now THIS stuff is entertainment for me!)...

We persuaded Bergvall to stay no reason why Lankshear could not have also been as well.

Trying to find some positives, Mudryk needs affection , kiss and a cuddle from de Zerbi should put him right.

The Italian stated: “Mykhailo has the potential for a top career. In my opinion, he can also win the Ballon d’Or. He is a player of the highest level but he is also very sensitive. He needs affection. We will see if he matches his potential.”

Under De Zerbi, Mudryk played 19 games in all competitions – including the UEFA Champions League, and he scored two goals while racking up nine assists for Shakhtar as well. The 19 games he played under the Italian is the most that he has played under any manager in his career so far.

I wonder if it was Davies starting ahead of him at Charlton that made his mind up.
Whatever you think of Danso, I think he has been treated pretty shabbily by RDZ given that he was key part of our survival last season. I understand Van Hecke being first choice but putting Davies in ahead of him against a reserve Charlton team was appalling. There are times as a manager in any profession where pragmatism should trumps idealism. Tosin is already a downgrade in the sense thar he is replacing a player who was settled and knew the club and likely felt a huge connection after what happened at the end of last season.

You have to say the club has supported RDZ very well. He certainly likes his high risk players. As Greenwood at Marseilles showed he's not afraid to take a gamble on them. He has brought in a former betting cheat and now a former drug cheat. I just hope he and the club know what they are doing. Aside from the fact Mudryk is not likely to be match fit , this could potentially create a toxic situation in the dressing room and damage the club's image

I can see your argument but what I think you are missing is that all 3 wanted regular first team football and RDZ is very clear.... if a player wants to move and a good offer arrives, then he is released. You may not agree with him but that is his philosophy. Back in June, how many games were Lankshear and Phillips realistically expect to feature when we don't have any European football? My only gripe with that approach is that we don't insert mandatory buy back clauses in these agreements....
