Thomas Frank - Head Coach

Welcome Thomas!

Have to say I was a bit underwhelmed when the noise first started about him coming in but as I've read and watched more about him, his style, tactics etc, like everyone else I feel quite excited now about the upcoming season. After the high of Bilbao, and the deflation of last week (even if it was the right decision), things feel on the up again.
Looking forward to hearing his first interview, to seeing how pre-season pans out and, of course, pitting ourselves against PSG in the Super Cup.

Well done to the club, whoever was leading this, for getting it tied up so quickly.

Someone will call for his sacking after we inevitably lose against a superior PSG side, that's absolutely certain.

Aren't PSG going to this world club crap? Should give a decent head start on our pre season and hopefully our form going into that game.

Really happy with this. Obviously someone who the club have put a lot of work into identifying and then appointing. So not a quick fix option like some other appointments post Poch. Welcome on board TF.

Cautiously optimistic.

You can see from the statement why he’s been appointed, he fits what the club want. A manager to develop youth and overachieve with the resources he has. And Frank’s done that albeit at a less pressurised level. So it’s a risk but every appointment is.

Not sure what success for us is though next season. If he gets us top 10, is that seen as significant enough improvement or must he get us in the European places through the league?

Beat the arse at home. Win the FA Cup. That's what I want from Mr Frank. Yes top 4 or 5 would be good but there WILL be hiccups along the way. Get that FA Cup though, and the Spurs I grew up loving will be back on track.
Absolutely agree. No final for 34 years (let alone win) is awful.

It’s the competition I loved most growing up and would love to win it.

Levy isn’t gonna be happy with 8th or 9th no.

And overachieving to reach 10th instead of 15th (like at Brentford) is a much smaller leap to overachieving to reach 4th from 9th for example. I like the appointment a lot though. Always liked listening to him and I like that’s he’s adaptable. Has the potential to really pull the club together.

we should be in the CL, thats the bar

The two most encouraging things for me about the appt are -

1) we are bringing in a manager who will complement the squad really well/has a great relationship with Lange.

2) he really fits our working model as a club.

I think @Muttley 's comment about Johnson benefitting is on the money.

5th is probably our par at the moment. We should be aiming for 3rd (realistically anything below Liverpool should be up for grabs) and a cup

He's a reasonable appointment. Feels like settling for upper mid-table consistency, but at least he has a baseline of doing what the club clearly wants from its coaches - overachieve on a shoestring budget, and be adaptable enough to build his tactics around the players as opposed to wanting players to fit his specific tactics.

Doubt we'll move any mountains under Frank, but there are worse choices we could have made. And, most importantly, he seems like a good human being first and foremost - good to his players, his staff, and the fans, tries to stay humble and is a relatively good guy by the standards of Premier League football.

That ability of his to connect with and nurture people, will help him connect with the lads - many of whom will still be disappointed in the way we treated Ange.

What's interesting, though, is what this means for the Director of Football position above him. This is pretty clearly a Lange signing - but what does that mean for Paratici potentially coming in above him in July?

Top 10 is way too easy. We would have been there under any manager next season. Top 6 likely too.

I expect top 6 at a minimum, a credible challenge for the top 4 (or does 4th even matter anymore? 5th probably fine?) and ideally a great cup run.

Will be delighted and eat some humble pie if his flexibility ends up being the secret sauce this club has always needed and ends up putting us into a title challenge.
