Thomas Frank - Head Coach

Welcome. You've got my full support. Ultimately, it's all extremely pointless because even if you win a European trophy, you're not safe.

Hope you get off to a good start.

No Frank don’t listen … it’s if you have been pants for over 1 and 3/4 of a season where you cannot adapt to the league. Then say that a cup means nothing in a press conference, and then question why you maybe released after winning a cup.

All the best Frank I hope that you can keep us climbing in the league and get us another trophy.

Cautiously optimistic.

You can see from the statement why he’s been appointed, he fits what the club want. A manager to develop youth and overachieve with the resources he has. And Frank’s done that albeit at a less pressurised level. So it’s a risk but every appointment is.

Not sure what success for us is though next season. If he gets us top 10, is that seen as significant enough improvement or must he get us in the European places through the league?

I just want to enjoy watching us play again and not look like we're going to concede every time we lose the ball. Qualify for Europe again next season will probably do for a first season as long as it looks like we're headed in the right direction.

This is a good appointment. I feel we can atleast now approach the coming season with some optimism. A couple of 1st team additions and we should be looking at top 6. I think top 4 would be a step to far but you never know.

Good to have it official. And good to see him get some of his highest thought of coaches with him.

Will be interesting to see what he can do here.

His team, with experienced coaches.

Will help him, looks like the club had to go the extra mile to get the other staff, good to see

He's a reasonable appointment. Feels like settling for upper mid-table consistency, but at least he has a baseline of doing what the club clearly wants from its coaches - overachieve on a shoestring budget, and be adaptable enough to build his tactics around the players as opposed to wanting players to fit his specific tactics.

Doubt we'll move any mountains under Frank, but there are worse choices we could have made. And, most importantly, he seems like a good human being first and foremost - good to his players, his staff, and the fans, tries to stay humble and is a relatively good guy by the standards of Premier League football.

That ability of his to connect with and nurture people, will help him connect with the lads - many of whom will still be disappointed in the way we treated Ange.

What's interesting, though, is what this means for the Director of Football position above him. This is pretty clearly a Lange signing - but what does that mean for Paratici potentially coming in above him in July?
Shoe string? We are the 3rd highest spenders in the division for the past five years.

I'm no fan of the board right now but facts are facts.

Will comment here because @thfcsteff thinks I did Ange a dirty with my 300M comment (and I can't reply in that thread anymore)

Ange got >£330M, even if you minus Porro & Deki's final payments (max £60M, but likely far less), you are looking at £270M+ in player spend, including 5 players over £40M+ (Solanke, Johnson, Maddison, Gray, VDV). Easily best backed Spurs manager in modern era.

Frank will get money, and if certain players move on (Son & Romero), number might be even bigger.

I’m definitely warming to this appointment. Like the interviews and analysis I’ve seen on him this week.

Good luck.
Me too, he sounds good. The problem is I've been reading these 'After reading up more on this guy I'm confident he's the man' comments for almost every managerial appointment I've seen for years. They always seem great, until they aren't.

Cautiously optimistic, I don't doubt we will have a decent enough first season. The problem always seems to arrive in the second season, so lets see. Fingers crossed....

Sure, but with the, what, 7th/8th lowest wage bill and while we're 20th in wages-to-revenue?

I'll correct myself - it's a shoestring by comparison to our rivals. Relative shoestring, if that's any better?
But the 7th highest in the league right?

Which is higher (and much higher) than most of the teams that finished above us last year

LOL - Ange didn't get c£330m because you don't start building a squad on the first day of a manager starting. Ange was more than happy with so many players that were bought before he joined and they were the cornerstone of his EL winning team. Frank picks up this squad in the same way as Ange did 2 years ago but it is better again. His charter is the same. Optimise your coaching with the players at your disposal.

THFC were going to improve this squad regardless of which one of these 2 guys were managing us next season. There will be natural churn and I'm guessing Lange and the recruitment team will tweak their data models to hone in on potential targets that fit with Frank's philosophy. My guess is this summer's targets won't have changed much, if at all, from manager to manager. Frank will be very knowledgable about our squad anyway.

The good news is that we've got all the horrible business done respectfully and timely. We can now focus on transfer business and pre-season on the first week of July.

This is what I think is a good thing. It sounds like Ange just works with whoever he is given and is a very lone person. Not sure it is the way to go, as you need team bonding and all that, and sounds like Frank requires people he knows and trusts. Dont even know what Mile Jedinak was coaching as our defence was atrocious.
