It's not an error, it's more bad luck. If there had been another metre or two Phelps would have taken another stroke and gone past, but after that Le Clos would have been ahead. It's impossible for him to plan it so that the strokes are perfectly timed with the length of the pool.
 
You are speculating here - they were just about at evens at the end and the momentum was with Le Clos at the time. Again you are focusing on one particlar aspect of the race and choosing to ignore the great distance Le Clos made to be able to be at a stroke's length in the end
 
First gold coming up at 11.50 today, virtually nailed on in the rowing. They smashed the olympic record in their heat yesterday.
 
Phelps got his stroke rhythm (tee hee) all wrong at the end. He'd know he would have won if he timed it better. I only just saw the replay now knowing Phelps had come second and couldn't see how he lost it, but it was all in the timing of that last stroke.

Take nothing away from the South African cos ultimately he swam the faster race.

Just arrived at Eton for the rowing. What a fcking mission!!! And comedy disorganisation at the ticket office. Hey Ho I'm in my seat and should hopefully see our first gold of the games. Gonna be a good day today I can feel it!! :)
