Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

R....? Meh. I have no idea what you are talking about.

I think all of my nine kids have asked me this question - "Why are we here?" - at one point or another. It is deep, there is no denying it. So I have developed a simple answer to this fundamental question for ALL of my offspring, which answers their questions on their purpose and the meaning of life.

I'd have thought they might ask why you don't have a TV.

I take a rather simplistic view, that there is there is no purpose to why we are here, its just a perfect storm of science and if I was not here in this moment I would not be at all.

As someone that fiercely doesn't believe in religion as a story or in the form its sold, I honestly just think we are here for a time and then we are not, with no real reason other than being in that time. People have formed and brains have evolved to the point that we have religion and ideas and doubts, people wanting to make sense of it all like there is some higher purpose.........I don't believe that.

And I am extremely content with that and at one with my own sense of mortality

Yep your daddy put 100k sperm in your mommy. If you weren't the fastest swimmer someone else probably would have been.
There could have been something good on tv that night.
Times that by the million generations that got you here. The chances of you being here are infintesimal. But if it wasn't you it would either be someone else or nobody at all. The world would still be spinning and the sun would still burn.

This is hardly objective. The only correct answer in my view is, that we do not know why we are here. And the only certainty anyone has is that of their own sentience. Anyway we would need a philosophy thread as it's a great topic

Ofcourse it's objective. The only thing in the universe that decides why you get up in the morning and do the things you do. Is you.
Whether that is for family, money, addiction, fear of a GHod and what they expect you to do, wanting to get laid, wanting to have fun. Whatever the reasons it's you who who makes the decision.
The decision might be subjective, but everyone does it. Or they don't.

No GHod. No devil.

But sometimes, here in England, in the summer nights with a warm breeze, there does feel there could be… something.

But it’s probably just the feeling a billion years of biology is happy to have gotten to that moment.

We have an unimaginable depth of ancestry and in that lineage the human form is going to be transient.
