Tottenham Hotspur host West Ham United at White Hart Lane on Sunday 25th November 2012 (KO 16:00) in the 13th round of Premier League matches in the 2012-13 season.

This will be the 240th meeting between the two clubs.

Tottenham come into the game in 8th place in the table on 17 points with West Ham in 7th place on 19 points.

The first meeting came in the Thames and Medway League in September 1898 when West Ham were known as Thames Ironworks. That game at Northumberland Park resulted in a 3-0 home win for Spurs. Thames Ironworks won the return fixture 2-1 at the Memorial Grounds in East Ham.

The teams met again in the Southern League the next season with Spurs running out 7-0 winners at Northumberland Park and the return fixture ending in a 0-0 draw at the Memorial Grounds.

The 1900-01 season saw Thames Ironworks become West Ham United and the Hammers and Spurs played each other in both the Southern League and the Western League. By now, Spurs had moved into their new ground at White Hart Lane but it would be another four years before West Ham moved to their current home at Upton Park (or more correctly, the Boleyn Ground). Spurs won three of the four matches played that season against West Ham with the remaining game being drawn.

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United continued to meet in both Leagues up to season 1907-08, when Spurs switched to the Football League.

The teams didn't play any more competitive matches against each other until after the First World War. During the War, several games were played in the various competitions organised to maintain the morale of the public.

Spurs beat West Ham 3-0 in the first FA Cup match played between the teams in February 1920. To date, the clubs have played against each other together 11 times in the competition with Spurs winning 6 games to West Ham's 3 and 2 drawn games.

The first Football League meetings came in the Second Division in season 1919-20 with West Ham winning 2-1 at Upton Park and Spurs winning 2-0 at White Hart Lane. Spurs regained their top flight status that season, which had been taken away in very contraversial circumstances.

Spurs and West Ham played their first match in the Top Flight of English Football in February 1924 with the Hammers drawing 0-0 at the Lane but winning the return leg at Upton Park 1-0.

The clubs met for another four seasons in Division One from 1924-25 to 1927-28. From 1932-33 until the outbreak of World War Two, the clubs met in the Second Division.

During the Second World War, Spurs and West Ham played 20 games which often featured 'guest players' as many of the club's regular footballers were called away on National Service.

Regular football resumed in season 1946-47 and the teams played four seasons in Division Two before Spurs won the title in 1949-50 and were promoted to Division One, where they won the first of their two League Championships the next season.

West Ham United were themselves promoted to the First Division for the 1959-60 season and they enjoyed a lengthy spell in the Top Flight which lasted until 1978.

West Ham United beat Spurs in the first Football League Cup meeting in 1966 and to date the clubs have met 7 times in the competition with Spurs winning three games, West Ham two games and two games drawn.

Spurs were founder-members of the Premier League in season 1992-93 and have been ever present in the competition. West Ham won promotion to the Premier League for the 1993-94 season and lost to Spurs 3-1 at Upton Park that season. The Hammers beat Spurs 4-1 in the return match at the Lane.

West Ham won the 2010-11 match in September at Upton Park 1-0 with a Frederic Piquionne goal while the game at White Hart Lane in March 2011 finished in a goalless draw. The Hammers were relegated at the end of that season finishing bottom on 33 points.

To date, there have been 32 matches played in the Premier League with Spurs winning 15, West Ham winning 10 and 7 matches drawn.

The clubs have met in two foreign venues, firstly on tour in the United States in May 1969 where Spurs beat West Ham 2-1 in Baltimore, USA and more recently in the Barclays Asia Trophy in July 2009 in Beijing, China with Spurs winning 1-0.

Overall, Tottenham Hotspur have won 98 games, West Ham United have won 81 games and the remaining 60 games have been drawn.

The only game of the season where I will subscribe to the theory that the end justifies the means.

In fact if we cheat and get away with it, all the better.

We're long overdue a result at theirs.

Really looking forward to it and seeing how we cope there. Hopefully we dont lay down and die like the last few trips to the Lane, and i am confident this team will go there with a much improved attitude. I can see us coming away with a point, Spurs have been a bit dodgy at home this season. If we can keep it tight for a long period of time frustration will kick , and their fans will get on their backs. An early goal for Spurs and i think they will control the game.

Adebayour suspended is a big plus, just need to watch out for the very much in form Jermain Defoe..

Fixture I look out for more than most against this mob.

This is the side where the scoreline is everything to me, I hate this mob with an irritional hatred.

Hope Yossi and Jarvis are fit, at least on the bench if needed (hopefully not).

Biggest challenge for our FB's to date personally, Lennon and Bale - Linda / Demel or Job are going to require help so can see Sam setting us up to keep it very tight for 60 minutes.

Whenever we play there and I do think this is one of the best grounds in the country for atmosphere and to play football in, my mind always reverts back to one of the very best matches of all time. A simply great, great match, in November 1967, which ended in us winning 4-3. Truly memorable in every way. I think this one too, has the makings of another brilliant match. The time has come, indeed

This is a real test of our FB positions, with Bale and Lennon both likely starters. Walker behind Lennon would suggest they'll be looking to use the whole of the pitch/width all match.

Vertonghen is still acclimatising to this league and, as much as he has a lot of experience, Gallas is a fair bit shorter than Carroll I'd have thought.

Along with their wide play, Spurs have decent options in the attacking midfielder department (the Icelander and Dempsey), but will have to channel their game eventually through Defoe.

Worst still is that they're coming off a bit of an embarrassing defeat at The Emirates.

If we're going to win, Carroll needs to be sharp to the ball and in holding it, Nolan needs to be clued in with Carroll's play and Diame, in bringing the ball forwards needs outlets.

We need a high-tempo game from all outfield players.

Reckon we will score, but perhaps only once.

1-1 will suit me.

This is the one. It's funny how this one game has a completely different feeling than every other. I agree about the excitement and fear in equal measures. For me it feels like life or death. Anyway I am not buying into this 'best time to play them' or 'we are favorites' bol*ocks. The form book usually goes out of the window for this game and it usually comes down to who wants it most. Lets just hope Sam can get across to the players exactly how important this fixture is for us fans and puts a rocket up their ar*e. If he can do that then we have a blo*dy good chance of getting something here.

Ahhh the yearly 'cup final' is upon us, we will hear about how we are obsessed and that they dont care about us but they will want to win just as much.

I shall be attending, currently not feeling 100% match fit so might not booze as much this year and just absorb the game a little more.

I hope we all dont forget, if we do lose, what a good team they have got but i think we have a chance to grab a draw which i am sure we would all take now.

Hopefully no condiments are thrown between us this year as it was a slag trying to get all the burger sauce off my jacket that was lobbed over the police escort!

Speaking to a mate of mine, and he feels if we get a good start he fancies us to do the business. Their home crowd are very against AVB, which is reminiscent of a proportion of us last season when we were playing poorly. A good start is key.. three points and a period of hibernation for the Spurs fans.
