I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Jesus, Lamela is playing out of his skin and he gets criticised on here.

The team Poch picked against City in terms of our front four was the best options he had at his disposal. Lamela was in that front four and I for one am delighted to see his name in the starting 11.

He IS the starting 11.

He can hold the ball too long, or be caught in indecision. If he can remedy that, the rest of his game is excellent.

Agreed; he annoys at times with the dawdling and sometimes giving it away needlessly. But the combination play between him, Alli, Eriksen and Son left City terrorsied, plus he was often key in starting our counter-attacks.
Plus some of his assists can be sublime, e.g. for Kane's goal vs Chelski last season and Son's goal vs CSKA last week.

Hopefully Son's goalscoring form forces him to step up when it comes to shooting, when he is often poor imo

Good stuff overall

He takes risks and is unpredictable, something I feel we badly need against packed defenses.
Some of his passes through the last line of defence are sublime.
The day him and eriksen click in the same game it will be fill your boots day for whoever is playing up top.

As long as he don't do that in our own half I can live with the fact that he take the risk.

Darren Anderton: 'Here's what I love about Erik Lamela'

By Hertfordshire Mercury | Posted: October 04, 2016

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Darren Anderton has lavished praise on current Lilywhite Erik Lamela.

The Argentina international has come on leaps and bounds since his early injury-hit days at Spurs after his £30m move from Roma in the summer of 2013 and is now a key player at the club.

Ex-England star Anderton, who played 358 games for Tottenham between 1992 and 2004, was a talented and key part of the Spurs midfield, but had well-documented injury worries of his own during his time at White Hart Lane and has been impressed by the 24-year-old's progression since those tough early stages.

"I think he's come on a heck of a lot. To join a new club is tough, but if you join and then you get injured like he did at the beginning it's hell," Anderton was quoted in Spurs' matchday programme for the game against Emirates Marketing Project as saying.

"You're desperate to prove yourself, to start well and show everyone what you're all about. There were times when people were maybe a bit worried because the Premier League is different and it's not easy to come and adapt, but I think he's come on leaps and bounds and he's dealt with it all really well."

While Lamela did miss a second half penalty in Sunday's 2-0 victory against City, he did once again put in a trademark all action display. Although he has started mainly in Spurs' Champions League games and their League Cup game this season he has already scored twice this campaign and laid on three goals for team-mates.

"What I love about him is, even if things aren't going well, he's brave, he never ever hides, he always wants the ball and he pops up with some important goals," said Anderton.

"Some players in his position can be a little bit lightweight and not tackle, not track back, not help their team-mates or their full-back behind them, but he does that.

"He gets in the box for opportunities, when he comes inside he always wants the ball and when we lose it he works his socks off to get it back and that's what the manager craves from his players.

"He also seems a really nice lad. He's got his feet on the ground, he won't get carried away when things are going well, but he won't get too down when things aren't great. He seems very level-headed to me, which is very good."

He added: "For Erik it seems like the disappointment of the end of last season has driven him on. He hasn't rested on his laurels. There's always a worry players can get tired, but he seems to have boundless energy."

Well, Anderton is right that Lamela never hides in games, either against opponents or against team mates :D! He has already fight with Eriksen and Kane to take free kicks and now he has fight with Son to take the penalty ! The media can call it anything but football purists will call it PASSION !

I recall a story last year about Lamela telling Rose over dinner that he fully believed Spurs could win the league. Rose didn't know whether to believe him. The conversation over dinner this time will be far different, all our squad know they can win it if they perform to their best ability. Lamela has a winners mentality.

Of the front four, Alli and Son are playing the best. Kane should hopefully be back within a few games and can only assume will walk straight back into the team. Someone will have to make way for him and it ain't gonna be Son the way he is playing so chances are it will be Lamela or Eriksen. I still think we need more from the pair of them in spite of their hard work and overall play so far.

I think that Eriksen went a long way towards sorting out his work rate issues on Sunday and he was still useful, despite not troubling the scorer again. In contrast Lamela was not as effective and I can't remember the last time he scored in the league. for me, it would Lamela who is benched.

Our next game is away to Pulis' West Brom; no chance that Lamela is benched for that imo

no reason to change the squad to accomodate kane imo.

There is nothing wrong with Eriksens work rate and never has been.

I am beginning to run out of the recently replenished stores of goodwill again.

Maybe he just isn't my sort of player.

If goodwill incurred over the last few games and culminating in an active part in a masterful team performance in beating Emirates Marketing Project is beginning to run out after 3 days, then there's a problem.

I can't remember who it was but I read an interview with one of the players when poch first arrived about how he was teaching them about closing passing lanes with the press, cutting out passing options for whoever was in possession. That's what eriksen is doing, it's not all about tackling.
Because Lamela runs around snapping into tackles don't think that's what everyone has to do.
Eriksen and Lamela suffer in comparison to each because people keep saying well if he can do that why can't the other, they are different players with different skill sets. If there is a player out there with both their strengths we couldn't afford him. If pogba was £86m them that player would be £100m easy.
