Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Darren Anderton has lavished praise on current Lilywhite Erik Lamela.
The Argentina international has come on leaps and bounds since his early injury-hit days at
Spurs after his £30m move from Roma in the summer of 2013 and is now a key player at the club.
Ex-England star Anderton, who played 358 games for
Tottenham between 1992 and 2004, was a talented and key part of the Spurs midfield, but had well-documented injury worries of his own during his time at White Hart Lane and has been impressed by the 24-year-old's progression since those tough early stages.
"I think he's come on a heck of a lot. To join a new club is tough, but if you join and then you get injured like he did at the beginning it's hell," Anderton was quoted in Spurs' matchday programme for the game against Emirates Marketing Project as saying.
"You're desperate to prove yourself, to start well and show everyone what you're all about. There were times when people were maybe a bit worried because the Premier League is different and it's not easy to come and adapt, but I think he's come on leaps and bounds and he's dealt with it all really well."
While Lamela did miss a second half penalty in Sunday's 2-0 victory against City, he did once again put in a trademark all action display. Although he has started mainly in
Spurs' Champions League games and their League Cup game this season he has already scored twice this campaign and laid on three goals for team-mates.
"What I love about him is, even if things aren't going well, he's brave, he never ever hides, he always wants the ball and he pops up with some important goals," said Anderton.
"Some players in his position can be a little bit lightweight and not tackle, not track back, not help their team-mates or their full-back behind them, but he does that.
"He gets in the box for opportunities, when he comes inside he always wants the ball and when we lose it he works his socks off to get it back and that's what the manager craves from his players.
"He also seems a really nice lad. He's got his feet on the ground, he won't get carried away when things are going well, but he won't get too down when things aren't great. He seems very level-headed to me, which is very good."
He added: "For Erik it seems like the disappointment of the end of last season has driven him on. He hasn't rested on his laurels. There's always a worry players can get tired, but he seems to have boundless energy."

Well, Anderton is right that Lamela never hides in games, either against opponents or against team mates
! He has already fight with Eriksen and Kane to take free kicks and now he has fight with Son to take the penalty ! The media can call it anything but football purists will call it PASSION !
