Harry Kane MBE

Happy to be proven wrong. After the hattrick against Stoke which brings his total to 17 league goals, Kane does look like capable of reaching 21 or even 25 goals this season. But still feel his standard has dropped this season. He was very poor against the big teams and in Europe. Can't blame him as we rely entirely on him for our goals, putting undue pressure on him all the time.

The difference is one of coincidences imo.

His first goal against Stoke came from an error from Shawcross (I think) in clearing the ball. All of a sudden the chance was there. Not an easy chance, not one Kane scores every time. But this time he did. Then Stoke mess up a corner and leave him unmarked. Again, not an easy chance, but this time he put it away. Then a deflected shot, not even a particularly well struck shot. One that never goes in if not deflected.

As the goals go in and the game progresses Stoke's confidence vanishes while Kane grows in confidence. Very much swings and roundabouts, but I think there's a decent chance that if the first one doesn't go in it could have been another game where people like yourself would be frustrated with Kane's performance at the end of the game as the game could have panned out completely differently. Just like some of the games in Europe could have panned out completely differently if a bounce or error or finish had gone our way at a key point.

Legend in the making? Incredible stats, really. And he's still just 23. A best case scenario could see him playing for Spurs for another ten years at least - if he keeps performing like he does now, he could surpass even Greavise in the goalscoring charts by then. We are lucky to have him at the club.

Harry Kane: The numbers game - the milestones keep coming!

Harry Kane's hat-trick in our fine 4-0 win against Stoke on Sunday chalked off a number of milestones...

20-20-20 vision!
Harry has topped the 20-goal mark in all competitions for the third-successive season with his hat-trick against Stoke taking him to 22 this term. It's the first time a player has scored 20-plus in all competitons three seasons on the trot since another home-grown striker, Mark Falco, did it in the mid-1980s.

Players to score 20-plus goals for Spurs (all competitions) in three-successive seasons:

Bert Bliss - 22 in 1914-15 - (break for WW1) - 33 in 19-20, 21 in 20-21
George Hunt - 26 in 31-32, 36 in 32-33, 35 in 33-34

Harry Kane - 31 in 14-15, 28 in 15-16, 22 so far in 16-17

Hat-trick stats
Harry now has six hat-tricks for Spurs and on Sunday became the first Spur since Jermain Defoe in 2009-10 to hit three hat-tricks in a season. He's also sitting seventh in the all-time list in terms of total hat-tricks for the Club. Jimmy Greaves, as ever, leads the way on 15.

Hat-tricks for Spurs:

15 - Jimmy Greaves (1961-70)
12 - Bobby Smith (1955-64)

The next milestone...
Harry has 17 Premier League goals to his name so far this season. Three more and he'll become the first Spur since Jimmy Greaves to score 20-plus league goals in three-successive seasons.

United are reportedly ready to pay the £85million release clause in Griezmann’s contract, while it is also hoped that Red Devils midfielder Paul Pogba could play a part in persuading his international colleague to make the huge move to Old Trafford.

However, should those attempts fall through then the Daily Star claims that Mourinho will set his sights on England striker Kane instead.

The 23-year-old only signed a new deal at White Hart Lane earlier this season but that won’t stop United testing the resolve of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, especially given that Wayne Rooney is likely to leave this summer and Zlatan Ibrahimovic has still to agree to an extension of his 12-month contract at Old Trafford.

Despite selling the club’s top assets in the past, Levy would certainly play hardball over any potential Kane exit – particularly as he sees the in-form frontman as the face of the club as they prepare to move into their stunning new stadium in 2018-19.

Found a great doppelgänger for Harry whilst watching grease with my niece

Sorry for going slightly off topic, but I had to comment after seeing that all time top scorers. Didn't realise Defoe is our 5th top of all time! I always liked him but that stat suggests to me he's been a little under appreciated by many....

He is also our top scorer in European matches ahead of Chivers. And yes he is/was underated by some Spurs fans.

My grandfather regaled me with tales of Bertie Bliss' prowess -- allegedly regularly scoring from the half way line. Given the below stats, it appears that he lost 4 years of his career to WWI, suggesting that he would have been much higher up the goalscoring charts if he had been able to play.

Nice to see some old names there, George Hunt was my Dad's favourite when he was a lad.

@OptaJoe
14 - Harry Kane has scored 14 home league goals this season, the highest number ever recorded by a Spurs player in a single PL season. Own.
