Dele Alli

Like we did Bentaleb? He's good enough to be in and around the first 18 and will get his fair share of game time, of that I have no doubt....

That was Sherwood. No one else has ever started playing young spurs players until they were forced to.

Yes Sherwood gave him his debut but noone was holding a gun to Pochs head to play Bentaleb since he's been here and if he thought he wasn't yet ready should have loaned him. He wasn't forced to play Kane, waited for him to perform in the EL first - of course Soldado not scoring sped up his involvement . He didn't have to play the unproven Mason but he ended up being a regular. If Poch thinks he's good enough, he's old enough and will play a part...

Alli looked good in person, quick, can go past players, good passing and physically strong.

Can see him starting cup games.

We had the youngest team in Europe (tm) last season. Measured by the average age of the starting 11, or most frequently used 10 players or something like that. And it was by some distance covering several leagues.

Pochettino has been explicit in saying that Pritchard will be given a chance this season. We have several young players still at the very least being given a chance to prove themselves in pre-season.

Sounds good. Particularly the stuff being said about him using the ball intelligently and looking mature for his age. Will be interesting to see what happens with him and the other young players this summer.

He looked decent. But pre-season games don't mean much when judging a player from experience, regardless he is clearly talented and intelligent.

He pretty much was forced to play Kane. Kane scored 3 on the last 6 games at the end of the season before. Why was he waiting for Kane? He was 21 throw him in. Why only give him 96 league minute in 10 games before starting him while at the same time he was banging in goals week after week in the Cups (9 in 8 games)?
Why did Poch waste the end of last season playing the likes of Paulinho, Stambouli, Chiriches in those meaningless games instead of giving a game to ANY of our young players.
Ryan Mason sums this whole thing up we loan our young players out until they are 23? Its ridiculous. Tom Carroll is the same age as Christian Eriksen ffs. We are still trying to fix 'young' Andros Townsend at 24 because he was sent on loan 9 times to 9 different clubs with no planning to how that would affect his development.
Whats the point in the new training ground when we are sending players out to any team that will take them.
Meanwhile we fill our squad to while mediocre overpayed crap like Capoue and Chiriches so we have a squad big enough to play in the Europa League.

I think that you must be the only Spurs fan in the world who is unhappy with the way we are developing young players.

Just to follow on from this slightly. I think that Poch gave the senior players a chance to prove themselves last season and when they didn't he dropped them in favour of the youth players. This summer he has cut loads of deadwood which suggests that the young players will continue to get chances.

If players are not ready for first team football with us, then a loan to get competitive football elsewhere is sensible and has served us very well. Walker blossomed with QPR and Villa, Townsend did very well with QPR too. Mason and Kane's loan spells were more chequered but I did not see many people calling for them to be introduced too much earlier than they were.

Townsend was 'broken' by being sent on-loan so many times?? Really?

Or he is just an aveage player with pace and we were hoping game time of any sort might develop him where sitting in the U21s at the club wouldn't and he has just plateaud and will never have an end product of note because he just ain't all that?

Yeah, must be all the loans and the club's fault.

And if we sell him we are going to get a pretty decent fee for him. Not every youth player has to go on and make 200 appearances to be considered a success.

I can't be bothered to break it down player by player but it seemed obvious Poch gave the established players a chance to assess and the ones he hasn't been happy with have already been got rid of or are in the process of being ousted. It's not a coincidence we had the youngest average age in the PL. Pritchard was out gaining good experience are and all the noises are that Poch is keen to have him involved in the first team squad this season as he has displayed his quality. I have no doubt if Dele continues to demonstrate his obvious ability he will be involved a lot this season. What you mentioned above mostly has cross over from the previous regime, and if you really can't see by now Pochs' eagerness to involve youth then I'm not sure you ever will...

I didn't see the game but from the video it looks like he "belongs" out there and will demand the ball and want to get involved. Great to see.
