There's probably a logic of drawing a linear line along big money signings (£80m+) and success...although there are probably many big signings that haven't brought what the purchasing club hoped.
(Fwiw I wouldn't be confident of Eze being that player if I'm honest).

And looking back we had a moment (much longer than a moment tbh) where we had two lethal hotshots in our team for seasons. Very few clubs have had two genuine WC players, both worth well over £100m in their prime, to lean on for goals.
So we had big players, that didn't cost us the earth, but our current financial situation didn't exist then.

If two, three or four of our youngsters (signings or academy) can replicate that (which I imagine is part of the strategy) then that front end saving will give us the big push funds when things look seriously to be going in the right direction. (Which could be as short a timeframe as next season)

I’m not saying it isn’t possible. But I think we are relying on luck, or kicking the can down the road so to speak.

There’s a reason the clubs challenging for the biggest trophies sign the proven players. It’s because they likely won’t have an adaptation period, and they have the mentality to execute their quality in almost every game. It means those clubs are more likely to win in the now.

I’d love for us to be at that point. When we had Kane and Son, we were also signing Lenglet, or nobody. So we never rounded out the squad properly in those times to really push on. We may well get there in 3 years if this squad clicks together at the right time. And I’d love it if it did. But it’s a strategy less likely to win now than fighting to sign the player that our competitors at that level also want.
