He did get their first. He did win the ball. The collision came with the momentum after the clearance
Mon capitaine
Stuart Pearce said it was never a red.Ally Mcoist seems to be a pretty fair judge as a pundit, he thought Romero deserved a red on the TV commentary.
It why we need Europe-wide referees. Just because the 10 plebs here have group thunk decided he has baggage. His reputation is the prime argument for selling him. Unlike other defenders, who frequently get away with elbows, stamps and cynical fouls, Romero will never get any leeway from the refs - quite the opposite. The narrative is just too strong.
Chris Sutton says it was , all have a different opinion, bet we don't appeal against it.Stuart Pearce said it was never a red.
VVD, Joelinton to name but two !!His reputation is the prime argument for selling him. Unlike other defenders, who frequently get away with elbows, stamps and cynical fouls, Romero will never get any leeway from the refs - quite the opposite. The narrative is just too strong.

If an opponent had done that "clearance" to one of our players, and not get sent off, we would be livid!!! And rightly so!
What is with this blind groupie mentality??!! FFS, don't debase yourself trying to justify the unjustifiable. The guy is a walking nutcase and has a brainfart in him every playing minute.... he has been sent off more than any of our players have been in the premiership, and - for all his ability - has let us down and cost us games and points, more times that I can remember!
I know the Romero haters will be out in force today.
And I'm being clear that I'm not talking about people being critical about what happened today.
But he's gone in low and hard for the tackle outside the box. The ball is there to be challenged for.... what do you expect any Spurs player to do, in that situation?
If he pulls out and Cassimero wins the ball and utd score a goal, would we criticise him for pulling out of the original tackle?
I would expect all our players to always go in fully committed to try and win the ball. Sometimes the other man gets there a split second before you, that's football, it's a foul and a yellow card.
It wasn't what I call a late challenge, or a high challenge or even a cynical challenge.
We've seen for the past 4 games how passionate he has been and how determined he's been for the team to try and win or get a point from losing positions, today it's gone against him.
Now if we are going to write him off for being far too passionate, and being far too committed in challenges then, I'm sorry but that's just rubbish.
I know sometimes people lose the plot when they get too syked up, but I don't think he was playing like that today.
I'd rather have players like this in our squad.
You never used to be able to call yourself a defender unless you got at least 1 red and 1 OG a season. It just shows you are committedHis record is that he has been sent off once in every 25 games for us. He’s a lunatic.
He had possession, he was playing the ball.
I keep seeing people refer to it as a bad tackle, it isn't a tackle at all, Casimero is the one tackling, he's put his foot in the path of follow through.
I get Romero did a follow through, I get he's an idiot for giving Oliver the excuse (he couldn't fudging wait), but I don't see it as the stone wall red everyone else seems to, and a few people have posted similar tackles this season that did get red, so same old consistency issue and players being booked/protected based on club/reputation
It why we need Europe-wide referees. Just because the 10 plebs here have group thunk decided he has baggage.
he tends to be arsed in Europe, so that is good newsThat is an awful record for a club captain, it's just not acceptable.
At least we know Palhinha can do a reasonable job at CB if needed, not sure why he got a yellow today he clearly won the ball and the follow through wasn't particulary dangerous.
Romero out for four PL matches , he will be very fresh for the 1st leg of round of 16 in the CL on 9/11 March, love to see us to be undefeated four in a row without him and then see what Frank does.
You'd apologise for the consequential loss, but not the act itself, as there was really no fault in that (unless we expect players to shirk tackles)Given the clip posted above you both obviously disagree with the person who made the tackle, who has apparently apologised for it, and his manager, who says he has watched it five times and says it is a red.
Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, though, I suppose.
No it isn't. Wash your mouth out.
Compare and contrast Romero to Palhinha. Both are tough tacklers both are leaders but Palhinha is much more controlled and focused on just winning the ball when he tackles and does so, mostly cleanly (even then he often gets carded harshly like today). Romero is so often reckless when tackling, I think because he overcommits and that's before you consider that he is also not great at reading the game so gets caught out of position.
Personally I don't think Romero is a great defender at all. In fact I think Palhinha is better. Just think back to how brilliantly Palhinha marshalled Semenyo last week. Could Romero have done that? For me the answer unfortunately is no.
