Car written off- experiences and advice

What did you do with it?

When I bought a Mercedes it was a tad disconcerting... I put my foot on the accelarator and the horizon rushed towards me.

Om nom nom. Eat the road. It is different.

I took it to the garage for a service and when I picked it up the mechanic said "I can't believe how quiet it is, so strange, I've tuned my car to go BLAAAAARGH pfsht BLAAAAARGH pfsht BLAAAAARGH down the road".

drove the kids around, took stuff to the tip, put my bike in the boot, y'know, dad stuff

I've got a 535d with a remap on it.

No noisier than it was, but that bit from 40-100 (er, I mean, 40-70 officer) goes by in a blink if the eye.

I am still arguing the toss on this.

I cannot buy anywhere near like for like in the market with their offer. I have asked them to have a look-see.

Haven't you noticed? Ford's just keep disappearing for no apparent reason. There used to be loads and loads of Escorts, Sierras and Scorpios (hah, what a heap of brick!) around, but now there are none! Though I did spot an Orion the other day... never mind. I believe the half life of a Ford is approx 9 days.

you are right, I put that down to the influx of cheaper models from Asia with generous pricing and aftercare

I've still got one, i've had two Escorts and two Mondeo's loved them all, the wife chose the latest one, an Ecosport, we got a amazing deal (pre reg'd by the dealer so a new car with full warranty at used car price) and its really practical for the kids/dog/shopping, I miss the power of the Mondeo though

Many ( many) years ago i had one of these , Capri 3litre GT ( the highway cops used to have them) it went like brick off a shovel.

love it, when I have a bit more time and money I want to buy an old Capri and restore it

Go for it, it was a lovely car and as i say it went like stink. The only problem was it was little skittish on the back end at high speeds, i has a word with a guy i knew in the traffic police and he said they used to put a bag of cement in the boot to add a little weight. I am not kidding and it worked.

Not sold on the color there, mate. My neighbour bought a black and grey Capri way back when and tried restoring it. It disappeared right in front of him after 9 days!!

It was actually a pretty cool car, 6 cylinders and sounded good the few times he managed to get it started.

Myself, I want an old Porsche 911 when midlife crisis kicks in

They seem to think it can be fixed in terms of economic viability as a relatively rare spec and very low mileage - will confirm within next 48 hours.

Either way I am probably going to get rid of it, might buy a very cheap run around. Something about £5K as a run around for when I'm back home, any ideas?

I don't even have it with me in London as there is no need given my flat is just up from the Tower of London, so it sits at my parents house and I drive it once a month at most.

Managed to eke out an extra couple of hundred quid from the insurer so good with that.

Really struggling with picking out a replacement..
