You know the details of those two scenarios...so why phrase it like that?

Sorry, not sure what you're driving at there? If you're saying I understand what else was going on, stadium etc. Course I do. I'm just not convinced it should matter any more to us as fans.

I completely understand why from ENIC's perspective, what they do works for them. They have significantly increased the value of their asset. They've done an incredible job on the infrastructure. I just no longer see why me as a fan should care what is best for them. We pay lower wages than any of our competitors, and we simply don't move and operate like a club trying to win the league.

Apologies if already posted, but just in case it’s not…a Marmite piece, if ever there was one.

Odd one
He is a spurs fan too
I agree with the flimflam bit
It’s a lot of smoke and mirrors
But does seem a bit if a hatchet job too
I do wonder if him and Ange clashed once when Ange ran over his mum or something

Horrific piece of writing.

In a lot of ways I get what he is saying, and I understand why he writes it provocatively. But it just comes across so snide and disrespectful. Whatever we can say about Ange as a manager in terms of tactics or training, the one thing that you clearly can't take away from him (per anyone that has worked with him or played under him) is his ability to craft a narrative that people can believe in and rally behind. I know that is in essence what Liew is saying, but he's found a way to take something which is an extraordinary talent and reduce it to something that should almost be derided. Really not nice.

Tends to be his style. There’s truth in there - and not just about Ange - but it does feel like there’s another motivation behind it, as Bedford says.

I think 'multitude of reasons' is doing a lot of work there to be honest. We haven't kicked on because we didn't back Poch. Or Conte. Poch and Klopp started at the same time. Liverpool kicked on with an aggressive move for a top goalkeeper and centre back and have won league titles. Poch was held back from doing the same.

I don't want cups rather than the league. I want to win the actual league. And some cups. I never wanted to 'do it the easy way' like Chelsea or City did. But I feel like we've done our hard yards. We've built the infrastructure, we now just need the team. I just don't believe another 5 year plan is actually going to get us to win the league, especially when we keep sacking managers / not backing them.

Nah, as much as people want there to be a singular point of blame (owners) it's just not that black and white. Poch era went south for different reasons to Mourinho and he failed for different reasons to Conte and so on. Of course within that there will be things that could have been done better/differently by the club but that is also true of the manager and others.

For me mainly post Poch we have been on a bad run of appointments (for me this is where I think the biggest issue with owners lays) it's no surprise to me Mourinho failed, Conte had a meltdown and absconded while a manager whose highest level prior to joining us being the SPL couldn't hack the comprtitiveness of the PL - i think Frank is the first manager since Poch that fits (imv) and I hope it's by design rather than luck because if by design it gives hope that lessons have been learned or that the more recent high level appointments have a better handle on things

I actually think the previous appointments were based on other peoples inputs other than Mou
We know that Nuno was a Paratici push as was conte and Ange it seems was a munn one
I do think Frank is coming from levy as he isn’t aligned it any of the sporting leadership
Mou was a vanity call and I get it, even though it didn’t work

Good job of highlighting what was said over time and how things changed. What gets me is that so many people bought in to the talk and vibes yet over time all that talk has ultimately been shown to be empty (as pointed out in the article) - so what's left once that's taken away?

He's been penning rubbish like this for sometime. He loves a dig at Australia too. And yes, he's nasty by way of being smug. I know writing. I know what he's doing. It's a style but it is distasteful for sure. Him and Wilson have done hatchet jobs.

All the 'talk' somehow convinced an ailing group of players to win a trophy. We will never know if the end product of that 'talk' (a trophy) would've seen a whole new level. And it doesn't matter anymore because he is gone. I think Liew is a disingenuous coward as a writer FWIW.

No respect necessary.
It is both a romantic view and also one that is not without merit.
Were the curves starting to switch? yes. But we had 'bested' Liverpool for the previous 4 seasons. It was not optimism without foundation at all.
We can either agree to disagree or debate further :)
It's heartbreaking bringing it all back tbh Steff.

2019 was not the previous 4 seasons. There was a clear difference between the two sides that year. Just look at the performances and results on the pitch. We were in the slide and they had risen, I remember the denial from nanny clearly because it was so obvious that Poch team has already peaked and was now on it's very last legs.

I don't like him as a writer and don't care for the tone of the article either.

A European trophy and champions league qualification?

I didn't love his battles with the fans nor the press, but it makes sense he was frustrated. It's been explained so many times about his winning things in his second season that Ange just gave up and rode the wave when it went his way. What was merely a factual report of his managerial career up until that point, now becomes the ultimate ballsy boast because the original statement still stands despite having Spurs on his CV - Which is fudging crazy when you think about it.

But the talk when it mattered (to his players when in knockout stages of a European cup competition) evidently did the job. Whether you, I or some snidey nomark journo appreciate his persona or not won't change the history books!
