I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Will be good to have him back however given some of the comments on here about him, you’d think we’d been missing Messi or someone who was our best player before his injury.

Will definitely improve our depth and provide a means to change things when we’re playing rubbish but can’t see that he’d play ahead of Dele or Eriksen in our strongest 11

Neither Dele nor Eriksen have been in any sort of form for us lately. But atm we have no one else to play! THAT'S why it's important to get Lamela back. He's of similar quality to them, and surely 1 of them should be in some form, so we'd be able to rotate a bit.

He was playing really well when he picked up the injury. He was great against City in our 2-0 win at The Lane, for example.

Whether he can regain that at all, never mind regain it quickly, remains to be seen, of course.

On form he'd probably start over Son and be a far better bench option than Llorente and Sissoko.

He'd also be able to come in for an injured/tired/out of form Alli or Eriksen without us having to change our style the way we do with Sissoko.

I’m getting you a signed Sissoko poster for Christmas. PM me your address so it can arrive safely.

Agree he's a better option than Llorente and Sissoko. Don't agree however that he would start over Son who scored who scored 14 premier league goals last season and got 21 in total. They are different players with different styles of course but for me, Son's overall contribution is higher than Lamela's.

Not sure that's true. IIRC, the team as a whole were a bit below par until around the end of November with the exception of Son who carried us to a certain extent for a large chunk of the first couple of months.

+1

I think his return could provide a boost to the squad but I also think he's overrated by some on this forum. This thread has more pages than for any other player even Harry Kane lol.

I'd say that Lamela's overall contribution is far higher - especially as a starter.

Son is a much better impact sub than Lamela.

Have to agree to disagree then. Lamela has never carried the team over a 4 or 5 game period like Son did in August/September last season. Kane was injured/off form, Alli was off form, Eriksen wasn't scoring. Son scored back to back braces in the league in away games to boot and also got the winning goal away to CSKA Moscow in the CL.

Lamela carried the team over a 4 month period when everyone else was slow out if the blocks.
