**OMT - Tottenham Hotspur v Some Spanish team apparently**

just saying ;) as we have them next. Last year they were much better than us in both games. We struggle badly against their pace and press. So I am hoping we can do better this time around.

They were much better at their ground

At WHL they got a goal off a soft penalty and created nothing in the second half

I agree they have a bit of an analgesic against us but they still can’t defend and have to hit you with pace

Well done, disciplined performance against one of the best sides in world football.

Lot of credit to team and Poch. Hopefully side takes a lot of confidence from that.

It was a ballsy effort, but we were obviously a bit scared in the first 20-30 mins. Most of the lads came good in the end.
Aurier made a stupid challenge, but he was good overall so I'm not gonna go overboard on him.
Winks anchored a 3 man midfield tonight. That was impressive. We would've done better with a more physical presence, sure, but we didn't have one and he did his job well.

The only thing that annoyed me was when our defence passed through their first line press and got the ball to Eriksen and Winks. All too often Winks and Eriksen went backwards and we played right back into their first line, usually resulting in a long kick forward from Lloris.

MOTM: Lloris just ahead of Sissoko for me. Sissoko tired a bit late on, but he was on it from the get go.
Thought winks was great myself playing positive when he could, Eriksen was not up to his standard

It's a fair point though. What Levy has done so far is incredible but it's not sustainable. We need to pay our players.
No one is leaving this season, next season we have the new stadium and that's when we should increase the wages to be more than lesser peers. I'd make an exception for Toby though, the combination of his age, performances, injury record and that he'd improve most teams means he should be near the top of our current scale.

It’s the assumption that Kane must be unhappy and must want to leave unless he gets parity with the league top earners that grates. Whereas there’s been nothing from Kane to indicate that’s how he feels.
I’ve got faith that Levy will do what he can and that will be sufficient to keep Kane with us for the foreseeable future.
After a great result like tonight, cold water has to be poured.

How is Eriksen getting out muscled by Modric.

Tottenham’s scout covering Italy and the Balkans back then was Riccardo Pecini, who is now sporting director at Sampdoria. He found Modric playing for Dinamo Zagreb, where the little midfielder was starting to shine. He had been sent on loans to Bosnian side Zrinjski Mostar and to Inter Zapresic to toughen him up, but as he turned 20 he established himself in the Dinamo Zagreb first team and, soon enough, as the best player in Croatia.

In training you couldn’t get the ball off him,” O’Hara remembers. “Even though he was so small, his calves were like absolute bricks, he was so strong and had this low centre of gravity."

You're talking about lads losing £5 million a season compared to what they could earn elsewhere.

Rose and Toby have made it public (in different ways). We're foolish if we think Harry, Alli, Eriksen and people like that aren't having similar thoughts.

If we can afford to increase wages with the stadium, we should invest and do it now.

I would add that Modric is nearly 33 and has played at Real Madrid for the past 4 yours or so and thusly is waaaaaay more experienced at a higher level than Eriksen.

All the ex pros I've listened to have said they'd be knocking on the chairmans door. I know if I was Kane, I'd be looking at the 5-7 million I'm leaving on the table.

It doesn't mean he's unhappy. The lad has shown us great loyalty. But the situation is not sustainable. If he was to continue to short change himself, that'd be 50-70 million he'd leave behind him over the course of his career. What if he got seriously injured? That's before you even think about the fact that we've won nowt so far and proven winnners will come looking for him.

We need to pay the players somewhere near what they could earn in the market if we can afford it or if we'll be able to afford it with the new stadium.

What we are doing is not sustainable.

Phew.

Okay.

Okay.

Phew.

In the end, this will be remembered as a game dominated by the two keepers - Navas kept out three great chances from our lads, and Hugo came out f*cking *godlike* on our end. We could have won it. We also could have lost it.

In the end, we got an entirely fair result. Lloris was imperious, but he wasn't the only one - Sanchez and Toby were both almost perfect today, and Jan did a great job on the left after some early nerves. Winks - wow. Winks was bloody superb. Distributed it like a f*cking metronome, almost never lost it, was a terrier defensively, and looked completely unfazed when up against not just Ronaldo, but also Isco, Modric and Casemiro - at times it was 4 against 1, and he came out f*cking shining.
Kane grafted away up front, and looked at ease competing at this level
- Llorente grew into the game, and provided three chances at the end that we probably should have put away. Aurier had Marcelo in his pocket the whole game, and, error for the goal aside, never looked out of place. And Sissoko was good too - did well with powerful running up front, covered Aurier really well on the right, and finally looked comfortable with his team-mates. His technique still let him down a few times, but he held his own against Real f*cking Madrid, and that's a positive in my book.

Poch made a big gamble today - a totally unfamiliar sort of formation and system that could have seen us smashed. But he dared. And he did. And we took an entirely deserved point from the Bernabeu.

Hats off to Poch. Hats off to lads. Hats off to the away fans, who were superb - I heard them throughout, loud, clear and proud. And hats off to Tottenham Hotspur, for securing a point at the Bernabeu.

Now...bring them back to Wembley, and let's f*cking do 'em. No more nerves, no more unease. We can compete at this level. We can do this lot like we've done any number of teams at home.

Today, we made our debut at the highest level of the club game. And now, we have no more nerves to fear.
Written like a boss, mate. Or after that performance, like a Winks. He's one of our own, you know. All that was missing was a cheeky nutmeg on Modders.

I'd say we should do it as late as possible.

Either way, I'll take Levy's financial management over The Brains Trust that is Ferdinand, Hoddle and Lineker (Lampard in fairness to him didn't bang on about it too much).
But would you take Levy's Financial Management over The Brains Trust that is Glory-Glory?

I'm sure we will. I'm sure Levy knows what he's doing - he just can't suddenly be seen to be throwing money everywhere. He's a custodian of the club and he's going to keep his reputation as a hard negotiator because it will benefit us long term. But he isn't going to let us lose players if we can help it - if he's serious about us becoming a top club.
