***OMT Tottenham Hotspur V Huddersfield

Which teams did that? Remind me.

I seem to remember Burnley and Swansea parking the bus in particular. They didn't press high and we struggled to break them down.

Dortmund did and caused us problems for sure, but it also obviously opened them up for us to hit on the counter.

Everton try to play and we swept them aside.

Maybe I'm missing some?

Either way - whatever Huddersfield do - I'd hope we have enough quality to deal with it defensively and offensively.
Emirates Marketing Project,Liverpool and sometimes man u. plus BL and Monaco in the CL. And if you want someone comparable to Huddersfield, Bournemouth away last season.

The quality of the individuals does not matter too much, the major factor is if they have been coached to play that way (ie high press). Combine this with very few signs that we ever look like dealing with it or playing round it. We always look uncomfortable. (A fairly common opinion on GG)

Maybe we showed signs of improvement against Dortmund but I'd caveat that with us have an exceptional night of finishing and Dortmund displaying the most open and ill disciplined defence I've seen in a long time.

I'd also add this opponents defending deep 'thing' is nothing new, we have faced it since Redknapp......and last season we weren't even thinking about it because we had by and large cracked it.

I don't think it will be easy tomorrow, as they are organised, but I agree with your last point, we have the quality to make the difference (plus we are away:))

Fair points.

I was thinking more specifically about this season than last, but no matter.

I'd just generally rather see a team press than sit deep, though sure - each can cause their problems.

Hopefully we can crack it tomorrow.

The high press doesn't happen often, which is surprising as surely the teams watch our videos. BUT as someone on here said you just can't do it, you have to practice and train at it.
I think some teams (egBurnley at Wembley) do it for the first ten minutes and then forget.:)

I think Huddersfield genuinely know how to do it.

Let's hope they all play like Everton....fingers crossed.

Just a lucky guess.

Yeah right:D

I've watched your 'lucky guesses' and the very definite way you've announced line-ups a day before being officially the case.
It happens again tomorrow, then you've been well and truly outed.
If so, no biggie; just say you can't reveal your sources...

FWIW, I'd hope @LemonadeMoney is slightly wrong on the line-ups; i think with Aurier not playing we will need Sissoko's speed even more.
Though i would understand Poch not starting him as he has started most matches since the last international break and might need to refresh

I really hope we can get a win tomorrow, the most important being to be able to show - unlike vs Swansea a couple of weeks ago - we can win emphatically in Europe and follow it up with another win in a 'bread and butter' game.

Really strange game, I know little about Huddersfield and was surprised when they got promoted, type of game the old Spurs would mess up, but I think we have enough to get the win, might not be pretty to watch.

We've seen it shorter spells against other teams. But like you say most teams aren't set up to do that most of the game.

Hoping that the quality on the ball we have from Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Trippier and (fingers crossed) Winks will see us pass through that pressure better than we have in the past.

We need to keep our good away record going to make up for our poor home record this season. We have a great record against promoted teams under Pochettino, winning 18 and drawing 1 of our matches against them. But this match against Huddersfield is not going to be easy as we have a poor away record there. We have only won 2, drawn 6 and lost 12 of our 20 matches in all competitions at Huddersfield. In fact, even when we won the league title in 1951, we lost home and away in the league and also in the FA Cup to Huddersfield ! Huddersfield are actually Arsenal in disguise for us as they won the league title 3 times in the 1920s and then their manager joined Arsenal to help them win 2 league titles. So, let's hope we will treat Huddersfield like Arsenal and take this match seriously. Afterall, we have a history to settle with Huddersfield !

Kane has been in great form this month, scoring 9 goals in 5 matches for us. Let's hope he will continue his goal scoring run in this match as well. But we also need other players step up and score more goals for us as well. Alli has not been in good form this season despite scoring 3 goals so far. Let's hope he will rediscover his best form in this match. Llorente has not played much for us since joining us. But really want to see him score his first goal for us as well. Others like Eriksen and Son can help us greatly if they can contribute to our goals as well.

Our midfield has not been in great form this season, largely due to injury problems to Wanyama and Dembele. We have badly missed those 2 in midfield. Sissoko has done decently but he needs to be more consistent. He did well to assist the goal for Kane against Apoel. Let's hope it will boost his confidence to contribute more consistently for us.

Our defence have not been very consistent this season, conceding 2 soft goals against West Ham. We need to get back the form of last season where we had the best defensive record in the league. Want to see Vertonghen, Alderweireld and Sanchez concentrate fully in defence and avoid taking any risks by going forward too much. With due respect to Huddersfield, will be disappointed if we don't keep the clean sheet in this match.

This is our first match against Huddersfield in 45 years ! It is always nice to play "uncommon" teams like Huddersfield in the PL. But let's not show them too much love. Can see the Huddersfield fans provoking us by reminding us that they have won more league titles than us ! So, we need to repay them in kind by being ruthless against them to beat them and stay in the title race.

Everybody dance now!

We should not get complacent even if we have a great record against promoted teams. We will need an early goal to help us settle down and then need another goal or two to kill the game off. Let's hope we will turn up with the right team and mentality to get the all important win.

I always respect whoever we play, It's improved a lot over the last few years and maybe it's because I'm a fan but I do feel like we are always capable of pulling a shock reverse result out of the bag when we are overwhelming favorites.

The start might define how this goes but with eriksen and alli back plus Son as an option our front four will be a huge threat. I'd like to see Winks start as the only fear I have is that we don't cope as well in the call against a pressing side and he has the ability to turn that into a positive for us - with his ability to protect and release the ball forwards quickly. Despite his improvement in recent weeks Sissoko might be more useful once the game is over an hour old and hopefully they would have tired and will be leaving bigger gaps ideally as they are chasing the game.

Another away win would be the perfect antidote to our Wembley form.

We know what they will do the manager has basically said they are getting a fleet of buses and parking them.

They have the pace to hurt us on the counter as well. Mooy is a very good player at releasing those players as well.

If we don't score early I see another frustrating game.

Happy to see Winks in. And hopefully another away day victory to stay with the leading pack going into yet another international break...

Very happy with that team, particularly Winks being back in a PL starting line-up.

Some real quality on the bench too if we need it.

COYS!
