Vincent Janssen

Looking forward to seeing him after a full pre-season under Poch. The guy has ability and i still believe he will be a big player for us going forward.
I agree. There is more to come from this guy and I really hope we see it at Spurs. The goals he is now scoring now at intl. level are confidence building and I do think he needs it. A striker needs to score or they start second guessing themselves, and start down the path of losing that something that made them strikers in the first place.
How he starts the season is all important. I'll make the bold prediction that if Janssen starts the season well he'll go onto be a top player for us, but if he doesn't it will be a long hard season for him and that might be it for his Spurs career.

I think he needs to be more greedy in the box, he uses his strength to hold the ball and play in the runners, which takes him away from goal scoring areas, his first move is towards the ball rather than to goal scoring positions. He offers a different option than Kane and at times the team haven't been able to change their approach, hopefully with more experience it will work better next season.

Janssen looked a bit too strong/heavy for me. A bit like Bony, an incredible physique, superb power but not ideal for an endurance sport.

Like you get 100m runners who are VERY muscular and marathon runners that are super slim, you need that balance and I think Janssen was a bit too heavy. I don't mean fat or unfit, I mean muscular/heavy. I would like to see him a bit more mobile, lean, sprightly.

I've got a really strong feeling that next season is going to work out for the guy. He showed enough as an impact sub to suggest there's a decent player in there. Plus I reckon Poch has seen enough in training for us not to be linked with 10-20m strikers. His performances for the Dutch National team have been good and he looks very settled in photos with the other players i.e. one of the boys.

Here's hoping things work out for him.

Ah - the Soldado defence. I do hope you're right, though - never like to see a player fail, and strikers/keepers are the most exposed as individuals.

Would be my thoughts as well, from what i saw last season i would say the guy is going to be a very good player for us. He has ability no doubt and now he has settled here should push on , i still shake my head in bewilderment at the number of fans who can not/will not except that some players ( especially young ones) who move from another country need time to settle, not just to the way of life but to a much faster game then they are used to.

Soldado was 28 when we bought him - Vincent Janssen 22 (i think)

Much more room to improve/train a younger player. Much more malleable.

Janssen is raw with loads of ability - and we have seen what Poch and the coaching team can do with raw players.

What did you think about Dier's first season....? Had his moments but has really come on in recent years.

Thought he was fine from early doors. Impressed when he asked to be deferred for England juniors while he got into DM rôle. But .... that's for another thread.

I think what I am trying to say is look how much our young players have come on since working with Poch - and in that sense there is hope for Janssen - whereas Sodaldo just struggled mightily to simply adapt to the demands of the league having spent 10 + years in spain. We also didn't play to his strengths.

Agreed mate. Would like to give both Janssen and Sissoko this season to see how they progress. Hopefully with a Poch preseason behind them both players will fit in better to the team this season. Already seen a more motivated Sissoko against Juventus let's hope he keeps it up.

ah, i see the apologists are out in full force, if you put lipstick on a pig, its still a pig unfortunately. no further comment needed
